I see alot of people make this thread for their MCAT date. I was unable to find one for this date so I took the liberty to make one. Please share what you have found works or does not work for you?

Just got done with #11 on my BIRTHDAY (so mad about that...). I got a 37

14 in PS, 11 in Verbal, 12 in BS. Two of the BS passages had me like....huh?

That was my last practice test. So, here's how I've done (all AAMC's):

#3 :31
#8: 32
#4: 34
#5: 34
#10: 36
#11: 37

Average: 34

Hopefully the test goes similar. Though, I am worried about reading figures on BS sections. Why the hell do they have to be so confusing?

It seems like a lot of folks are studying on Wednesday. That seems really strange to me, as I hear from almost everyone that resting the day before is absolutely essential. I can barely focus now, being so burnt out. Today I am going to do one EK VR passage, and one tomorrow. That, some audio osmosis while I watch SC2, and maybe some flashcards here and there...

I'm planning on resting. Might even go to the movies

Can anyone try to simplify the female reproductive system for me?
I just keep getting confused as to what the LH does and what the FSH does and with all the different processes

This is how I see it:
it starts with the FSH which promotes the development of the follical.. the follical then produces estrogen which will trigger the release of LH..LH will then trigger ovulation and the ovum is released from the ovary.. at this point, LH induces the development of the corpus luteum which secretes progesterone and estrogen..the uterus wall thickens and is ready for implantation and if no implantation occurs, then the uterus sheds its lining and this is the menstrual period...If the egg gets fertilized then it goes through three stages, 1- Morula 2-Blastula 3-gastrula and this is when the 3 germ layers are developing......

Spermatogenesis and Oogenesis: Both start before birth when cells start to differentiate. females have all their primary oocyte before birth but males can keep making more primary oocytes through mitosis ....females produce viable eggs only after puberty.... Meiosis 1 starts after puberty for males and meiosis one ends before birth in the females... Meiosis 2 occurs after puberty and until death in males...... Meiosis 2 occurs only during fertilization in females ........the result is 4 haploid sperm cells for males and 1 haploid ovum for females

am I correct?

Today: AAMC 11
Tomorrow: Review AAMC 11 and do a full comprehensive review
Wednesday: Drive 6 hours to my testing site. 🙁
Thursday: Get owned really, really hard. 🙄

It really doesn't help that my ISP decided to cut my internet for the week before my test.

Am I the only one that is sooo lazy and burned out studying today? ;(

Heh... that was me all last week. Crunch time now! I'm been reviewing on mcat-review.org because I'm getting sick of reading my own notes and the textbook. I realized that I like reading things I haven't seen before or else I get bored really quickly. Maybe you can try it? But if you're really REALLY feeling burnt out maybe you should rest 🙂

GnRH stimulates the release of LH and FSH.
LH and FSH stimulate:
1) oocyte development ....follicles grow (Day 1)
2) estrogen release from the ovaries.

-Estrogen stimulates uterine lining development, making it thicker.
-Rising levels of estrogen inhibit both LH and FSH. But when estrogen levels get VERY high (~ Day12), suddenly the negative feedback is reversed, there's a positive feedback in the hypothalamus and you see an increase in both LH (large amounts) and FSH levels.
-This increase in LH level (reaches its peak ~Day 14) triggers ovulation (mature follicle ruptures and moves from ovaries to fallopian tube). [you're right this is where the egg becomes haploid, one leaves the ovary, the other half remains].
-The residual follicle stays in the ovary, turns into corpus luteum which ends up secreting estrogen and progesterone.
-These hormones again maintain the uterine wall (preparing it in case there is gonna be implantation ) for the next two weeks (i.e. up until Day 28), and also start inhibiting LH and FSH.
-With the decline of LH, corpus luteum degenerates --> stops secreting estrogen and progesterone --> uterine wall crumbles and is sloughed off --> menstruation (~Day 28)

It's my understanding that both LH and FSH stimulate the growth (maturation) of follicles, and tell ovaries to release estrogen and progesterone
LH also triggers rupture (ovulation), and maintains corpus luteum.
If implantation occurs, hCG will take over LH's role of maintaing corpus luteum, who will keep producing estrogen and progestrone, who will in tunrn inhibit LH and FSH....which is why during pregnancy LH and FSH are kept low.

I hope that made sense!

I'm getting crazzy...I took Kaplan practice tests. I was increasing my score constantly until recently.
Kap diagn: 24
Kap test 1: 26
k2: 27
k7: 29
K3: 31
k4: 25 (I got really distracted during this test)
k6: 29
K10: 21
K11: 21
K5: 28
K8: 26 (did really worse on the VB--6, back to square one where I started!!!)

I'm getting psyched don't know how I'll do on the test that's only 3 days from now.
I took the AAMC tests, which are much easier than KAP I think... but then again, I'm retaking MCAT, so I remember some/most (idk) of the questions from last time that I was prepping.
I can't seem to predict how I'll do on test day. It seems like it is all a mess! 😱
What do you guys think?

Definitely throw out 10 and 11. A lot of people tend to avoid those two tests since they're so ridiculous. I started to take #8 this morning but gave up. Nearly every passage drove me crazy. If you have time, I highly recommend 9. I found it very similar to the AAMCs. The only thing I disliked about it was the curve was too lenient and PS lacked calculation questions.

I am seriously going to cry. Just took AAMC 11 - 13, 8, 12. I was one point away from a 9. I feel like crying.

Just finished aamc 11, got a 32! Breakdown was 11, 9, and 12. I'm happy with the biological sciences section definitely, but I'm kicking myself for the PS section. Definitely should have scored higher.

Ahh.... now I'm scared to take that tomorrow! I don't do well in calculation-heavy MCAT's...How do you guys keep your cool and not run out of time doing them?

Honestly? I kind of got a little freaked out during aamc 11 and I would say that calculations are some of my strong points. There were some pretty ridiculous equations they wanted you to remember, I definitely need to brush up on angular frequency and velocity:scared:

Anybody else waiting to submit their AMCAS till after they take the MCAT? I definitely want to apply this cycle, but will waiting a couple of days make a difference upon when they verify the application?

I started my application and sent out my transcripts but I have not submitted the application yet
it's too time consuming and I wanted to stay focused on the mcat..I don't think a few days will make a big difference

I'm waiting to submit mine as well. I don't think it would make that much difference. Plus, there's usually a time limit on supplementary apps that you receive right after that.

I just want to take a break after the test....

I still have to finish my PS and didn't want to cut into MCAT study. Plus I'm in quarter system so my spring grades (which were awesome) don't post on my transcript till end of June.

most schools won't look at ur app till its complete and it will take a month to get MCAT scores in anyways, so i don't see being "late" as a big deal.

Okay...is it just me or is verbal for AAMC 11 pretty hard? It didn't 'feel' overly difficult but I definitely felt so drowsy and ended up with a 5! My verbal score is dropping 🙁

I think I'm gonna pass on doing any more AAMCs...still can't seem to break a 10 on PS and BS, and ranging 7-9. Might as well use the time to do more practices...gawd, I really hope I don't have to retake:bang:

I just finished that VR section. It definitely had really confusing questions even though the passages weren't as bad as the others. Overall, I thought it was one of the more brutal VR sections I've had. Still, don't psyche yourself out, it'll get worse if you beat yourself up two days before the exam.

Okay, just finished AAMC 11. I'm so confused by my past two scores lol

AAMC #10: 6/11/10 (27)
AAMC #11: 10/11/8 (29)

My PS on 10 was obviously terrible and my BS on 11 could be improved. Maybe they will meet somewhere in the middle? lol It seems I am good on verbal (Thank God!). I don't know, I'm so frustrated lol. I am confident though because my goal was a 27, and I think scoring that (or higher) is achievable.

How recent are AAMC full lenghts? For example, is AAMC #3 older than AAMC #10 etc...
I just want to know how close my grade will be to the real MCAT

I heard that 11 is the closest to the real thing and you made a 29 on 11 so I guess you're where you wanna be

I think you don't need to worry anymore! Just relax and be happy that your verbal has been pretty solid! 🙂

So I was trying to do a comprehensive review today but all I managed to finish thus far was Biology and Orgo. There's just WAY too many topics that are being tested on this thing!!! I wanted to review everything before I took AAMC 11 tomorrow but I don't think it's going to happen...

Also if I don't get higher than a 27 tomorrow, I'm probably going to cry so so very hard....

this is funny coz we have been moving at the same pace so far
did biology and organic today and I will take a section test on bio today
I will do physics and gen chem tomorrow and take aamc 11 after (I might not get to aamc 11 though and end up taking a section test on physics as well)
-wednesday is review of flashcards and work on verbal until 8 then I will try to sleep early since my exam is at 8 and I have to be up by 6

Haha....yeah we have been pretty much at the same pace! 🙂
I do feel for you.... since your exam is the 8am one! I don't think I could handle such an early test!

And when you say section test do you mean the ones from Kaplan?

no, I mean the aamc ones
but instead of taking the whole test I just choose a section (they give you an option to either take the whole exam or to take only one section)

how did orgo go?
I am going over the Grignard reactions right now and a few more concepts thane I should be done

Ohh I see. I would do that if it were a few days ago but I want to sit down for a full FL before Thursday to see if I can actually do it haha.... I've been getting worn out really quickly lately...

how did orgo go?

Yeah... I'm not too sure about orgo.... All I know is that at this point, I'm ridiculously tired and I have a feeling anything I go over will probably not stick so I'm just gonna call it a night :/

Hey guys, I'm scheduled for Thursday as well. Where are you guys taking your exams? I'm here in socal

Hey I have a quick oxidation question. This is from AAMC 10 so SPOILER ALERT if you are taking that tomorrow..

There is a really complex ion: Cu(NH3)4^2+
and besides using POE how can you disentangle this monster. NH3 is neutral, theres four of them? and Cu is 2+? ..

the explanation didn't help too much and I guess I should have thought "penny oh that means elemental Cu" but I rushed this question

Your explanation is correct I believe. NH3 has a 0 oxidation state, Cu has a 2+ oxidation state, hence the 2+ on the molecule.

hey y'all,

I need your input in this question I posted in other thread:

"What happens if you release the MCAT score in mid July which unfortunately turned out quite low...but update on the application that you will be retaking. Would school reject you to send out the secondary, or give you another chance at it because you identified yourself as a potential retaker?"

I already applied and submitted to schools and I'm really not feeling confident at all right now. Considering voiding if I will be straight up rejected.

Thanks.

You dun goof'd. That's why it's important to only apply to one school and then add the rest after you receive a satisfying mcat. Hopefully someone has some good news

I'm in socal, too. Taking it in SD at 2 pm.

Good job to all of you who have been working at it! Today's been blah for me. Did some review in the morning then nothing at all. Gonna try to review some bio for the rest of the night (after Jeopardy 😛). We're so close, guys!

Edit: Ok, after How I Met Your Mother.
