I see alot of people make this thread for their MCAT date. I was unable to find one for this date so I took the liberty to make one. Please share what you have found works or does not work for you?

Maybe, but what are the chances AAMC 11 has the same questions as the thursday MCAT test? 0%. So forget the ones you got wrong and move on! 😀 lol..

Don't take my advice - it's bad.

Actually you never know. The first time I went in to take my MCAT the first PS passage was almost IDENTICAL to another PS passage in the AAMCs.

Also, there was a discrete that was exactly IDENTICAL to practice question in EK Physics.

My point is - expect anything. o.0

Wellllll, crap.

Does anyone else feel like retaking isn't an option if you don't get the score you're looking for? I don't think I have the heart to go through this ordeal again. 🙁

here 🙁
my plan is that if things don't go well, I won't retake and I will just apply to Auc (assuming my score is high enough to get me into AUC but too low to get me into a U.S. med school) but retaking the exam is a no no no for me because I tend to do worst the second time regardless of what it is I am doing

Just finished AAMC 11, i thought i bombed it but got a PS/VR/BS =10/10/12 = 32

Not bad, wish it was a few points higher, but i did better than i anticipated considering PS was super rushed for me.

just finished VR. Don't feel so good about it...
I didn't get to concentrate for like 2 passages because my brother came home and ran up and down the stairs with his friends like a madman, and my friend called me in the middle to complain about how I don't pay attention to her anymore WTF...Although I paused the test after like 2 minutes of distraction, I still feel like that effected my concentration.

I made a wallpaper for everyone in this thread! Enjoy...

haha, good one
I want to share my wallpaper on my phone as well! I've been using this to inspire myself. I know for sure that this score will never happen, but it's a good way to motivate myself. I'll probably faint if I get anything within 5 points of this score on the actual MCAT.

Haha I love this.

I like how its a 42 and not 43-45, since in the past few years no ones gotten a 44 or 45 and last year I think there were only nine 43's lol (I know one of the ones who got a 43 too lol)

I'm going to take the most marvelous nap ever after the test on Thursday. I. Can't. Wait. Lol

I know someone with a 43 as well! My friend's brother got a 43 and he got into Columbia. I was like O_O I didn't even know getting a 15 on a section was possible -___-

Just finished PS on AAMC 11. I thought "this isn't that bad", hit 'review' and realized i had like 20 more questions in 25 minutes or something loll. I was like ahhhh siht

Um.... What do I do now guys? I did terribly on the PS and BS of AAMC 11. I'm seriously sitting here completely demoralized. Breakdown was 7 PS, 10 VS, and 8 BS. I went over my mistakes and 90% of them were calculation errors or changing from right answer to wrong. I seriously don't know what to do at this point. I'm going to cry....

AAMC11 was very different from the other tests and it's okay to be shell shocked. I know I was completely flustered during the PS and BS sections because of how confusing they are. At least you experienced the shock factor on a practice test rather than the real thing. The mistakes that you made seem to be a product of panic so just try to remind yourself to stay calm on test day. If there's one thing I think we all learned from these practice exams, it's that we will have absolutely no idea how well or how badly we did until we get our score. Just go in with an optimistic attitude and you'll do great.

The errors you made were all small calc errors that you can fix easily b4 test day. You are not lacking on content so that is good news. Means you know everything just need to fix some small things and you are golden!

Plus i think main obstacle is staying calm, a scary passage or section can easily overwhelm a person, so remember to forget and just move on and leave the worrying for after you submit the test.

I just took a AAMC 11 and got a 32 also (11/9/12) kind of pissed off about verbal since I was getting 11s up until AAMC 10 and 11 but I can deal with a 9 I guess.

Here's to hoping I can pull off my 30+ Thursday!!

it could just be being burnt out!! if they were silly mistakes and calc errors I really think its just being over stressed and not thinking things through... just relax tonight and have faith that you know everyone inside now it is just up to you to prove it to the world thursday!

You're right... as long as I learn from these mistakes, I should be fine. I started off never finishing PS sections on time and after 3 practice tests of panicking because I was running out of time, I finally overcame that. This time I was panicking because everything looked so different than what I was becoming accustomed to in the other AAMC's. None of the AAMC's were this calculation heavy and I was able to do most of them in my head. I used the same approach this time with this exam - doing the math in my head, but there were way too many. I checked my answers and my mistakes were ridiculous - like not noticing that it was cm and I need to convert to m or not multiplying exponents properly. Like seriously, I need to write these calculations down next time. That was stupid of me.

Thanks. Very true... I just need to work on the small things and be more attentive on the next tests 🙂

Okay! I will try to stay calm between today and the day of the test. Not sure how that will work out, though. Haha

Half of the MCAT is keeping your composure.

If you keep your composure, your calculations will naturally be accurate and you will recall concepts and be able to break things down. It's obvious that you know your stuff. MCAT is a scary test for sure, but once you get past the psychological aspect, you can definitely achieve your target score.

👍

I did so bad on AAMC 11!!!!
12/10/11

I haven't done this bad on BS in a longggggg time 🙁
I think I need to brush up on my biology? But idk what I'm missing still 🙁(((

I think I panicked before I started this test because everyone said it was really hard, so I went into it expecting it to kill me. Not a good idea. I think I'm gonna assume that AAMC was the hardest thing in the world, and my MCAT on Thursday is going to be a piece of cake.

All your posts come off as dickish if you didn't already know. You see there are people getting sub 10s constantly on these sections and here you are saying "you haven't done this bad..."

Is anything other than a 15 considered bad? Get off your high horse.

I haven't done AAMC 11 in awhile, but expect the real MCAT to be more similar to AAMC 11 than any of the previous tests. Try to look through the ebola passage carefully because our exam may very well be littered with experimental passages.

You likely know your stuff judging from the scores of your previous exams but just get in a habit of being able to break down really dense passages and questions while keeping your composure.

You got this. 👍

I am gonna take aamc 11 in two hours and everyone is freaking me out
I already feel bad about my scores and it seems aamc 11 does not help at all

Whoa there...we don't need this sort of attitude, not two days before the exam anyways.

I don't know why everyone freaks out about the test. People go crazy saying "Ahhh, the Ebola passage was the worst thing in the world ahhhhhhh". I don't know what everyone freaks out about, the passage isn't that complicated, if anything, I feel like the information is presented much more straightforward than most passages. There's a few more calculations in the PS section, but it's not like they're horribly complicated or convoluted

lol i know man, but this guy/girl keeps posting things like "Omg i did so bad" or "zomg horrible" when they are getting scores that are 7-10 pts higher than everyone else lol. Like what's the point of posting stuff like that and phrasing it that way?

Either way I've got 1min 10 seconds left for my break before BS lol, brb!

"It was so hard that you actually GET Ebola afterwards. :scared:"

Haha. Way to encourage, Shaker!

I don't know why but I thought this was so funny.

Luvahgilahsa: I understand you're worried since you've done really well in the past AAMCs, but this last score could've been a result of burn out, panic, etc. Clearly you have the ability to score well; don't let one test bring you down. In response to Fivo calling your posts "dickish" ..well, c'mon now, a lot of us haven't passed 33 or even broken 30 so it'd be nice if some consideration could be given to the way you're writing your posts. I was thinking of saying something, too, albeit with gentler words.

And for the people just about to take AAMC 11: DON'T READ WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS SAYING ABOUT IT. Don't go into one of these freaked out. It'll just mess you up! Stay calm and know the answers are in the passage (unless it's a discrete then obviously not 😛).

Thanks a lot! I also feel like the fact that people have said these sections are super hard really made me a nervous wreck. I started the PS section expecting it to be SO hard and honestly, looking back at it now, I don't know what I was thinking! I got all the passage-based questions correct (except for 1) and the stuff that I did get wrong is so easy! Errors were either a miscalculation or second-guessing my answers by making them more complicated than they are. Same goes for BS. Up until passage IV I made no errors but then I got lost reading the cP-450 passage, panicked during the orgo passage as usual, and then I saw the Ebola passage and just admitted defeat before even giving myself a chance to figure it out.

All-in-all it was a great experience. I learned to double-check the answer for units and that if I'm beginning to panic then I probably shouldn't change my answers. Additionally... I learned that I forgot minor things that I will brush up on TBR books. I just hope the real MCAT has easier orgo passages because it's the one thing I just can't get right for the life of me.

Great! Sounds like you got even more out of AAMC 11 than just the test. Knowing how to control your attitude during test day is very important for sure. Obviously you and everyone else on these forums are better than anything the AAMC can throw at us. 🙂

Is anyone getting nervous about the writing component? Some Canadian schools I'm applying to actually use the writing component as a cutoff so it's beginning to make me nervous.
I don't know what I'm gonna do if I can't think of an appropriate example for a prompt 🙁

I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I have really crappy GPA, so this is my only shot of getting into Med School. I am aiming for over a 35, so this is bad for me. Consider my 12 to be a 10. That's how my standard is in order for me to get into med school.

I have been getting 12 or above on BS for the past 6-7 AAMC tests. This is definitely lower than usual.
Also, I have been getting 13 or above on PS, so this is still lower than I expected.

I didn't come here to brag, I'm here to vent out my frustration at my ever lowering AAMC scores. I don't want to start fights.
Peace

Well excuse my language. If you haven't noticed, a lot of people on SDN score somewhere around 35 on their MCAT. I read that from a MCAT score compilation post somewhere.

Therefore, I don't think complaining and freaking out about a 33 would come off as offensive, especially there are a lot of people that have scored better.

Thank you for the encouragement!😍

I will try to keep calm during my test. I wonder if there's pre test exercises I should do? Sometimes during these tests, especially the timed ones, I freak out so bad that I forget everything... Especially during Verbal, I totally blank out and don't know what I'm reading even though I could normally.

I spent 13ish mins on Ebola....got a perfect score that passage though :zip:

I hope they don't have more than 1 passage like that on the real deal lol

I spent my last 20 minutes on that passage.... Didn't end up checking my answers for the other ones 🙁
I still don't understand what the chart means though... after the explanation I'm still lost... lol
I hope they don't have any of those passages PERIOD.

I think you need to remember that (most) people on SDN are not representative of everyone take the MCAT. The average MCAT score is in the mid 20s. Not everyone is shooting for 35+. Hell, I'm shooting for 30, and I would accept high 20s.

I'm not worrying about it at all since schools in the US don't really care much about it. It sucks that Canadian schools are so numbers oriented (in this case letter oriented) vs looking at the whole applicant. I'm Canadian too, but applying in US only (low gpa).

I know that. My point is, since a lot of people on SDN get 35+, and many are shooting for who knows 40+, I didn't think my complaint about my 33 was "dickish" especially after it dropping from a 37 two days ago.

Imagine if you went from a 30 to a 26, wouldn't you be concerned too?

I'm done studying! Taking the rest of the night and all of tomorrow off. All I have allowed myself to refresh on are hormones, physics formulas, and certain ochem reactions!

I need to clear my head so I'll be unsubscribing from this thread in the next hour.

Good luck to everyone Thursday! We're going to rock this shet!

Thanks, my biggest concern is freaking out on the actual exam and do even worse. I have the tendency to freak out pretty bad and mess up on really simple things.
Anyways, I don't think being so offensive to someone after their scores drop so significantly does anyone any good.

I believe the avg is a 25. So that means ~50% get lower than that, and a 35 is like 90 percentile.

However i don't think its fair to call someone snooty because they are aiming for a higher score. For some ppl getting a B is good, for others its unacceptable. My buddy is applying to podiatry so to him 24 + is fine, for me that would be a major disappointment. Lets try and keep it positive in here.

I hope we all hit our targets and have very successful applications! less than two days till d-day, we got this!!!!!!!🙂🙂🙂🙂:beer::beer:👍👍😀😀😀😀
