***The Official LSU Dental Class of 2017 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

Congrats twh019! That's awesome!!! You better start carving that chalk! Nov. 2nd will be here before you know it!

Will do bkille!

I've actually been carving the chalk for the past two weeks. I'm glad I haven't been wasting my time now!

I thought the chalk carving was the most intimidating part of the interview even though I practiced and practiced. I really enjoyed the rest of my interview day after that! Have you visited LSU's campus before or will this be your first time there?

I've visited LSU's campus twice. Both were for the Pre Dental 101 Conventions held these past two years by LSU Baton Rouge campus's Pre Dental Society. I love the campus. I may add that I'm a LaTech student.

I noticed the chalk carving is relatively easy other than the dome for me. I want to make that dome look as smooth as a baby's bum, but it always comes out a tad rough.

The chalk carving was certainly the most intimidating part. I would advise anyone who has future interviews to carve under pressure. If you can't simulate the pressure then just drink a ton of caffeine and practice.

The hardest part for me on the carving was the time and pressure. I had about 3 minutes left when I started on the cut out. But maybe the pressure helped in that case. Who knows.

Best of luck on the interview twh019

When I was practicing, I had 10 minutes to spare every time but when interview day came, it seemed like instead of 35 min, we were given 25! haha but thankfully I was able to finish everything just in time. I am sure you will do fine on it and good luck also twh019!

As far as the dome, carve it the way you are now. Once you get it close to where you want it and you still have those rough spots, try running the blade over the top of the dome from one side to the other. I did it this way and it did give that smooth dome look like they want. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the pointers guys! I'll let you know how it goes. Let's hope we will all enter together as class of 2017!

I guess I'd ask you guys...
Other than the chalk carving, how was the overall interview? Were there any "put you on the spot" questions or was the interview just them trying to get to know you?

The overall interview was great! After the chalk, I found the rest of the day to be relaxing and really laid back. The interview was mostly to get to know you and also to see how you respond to the questions they ask you. The best advice that I can give you is to just be yourself and answer honestly and you will do fine. Remember, you wouldn't be interviewing if they weren't interested in you. 🙂

hey cavalier my official AADSAS stats are
Total GPA: 3.81
Science GPA: 3.83

DAT: 20AA/19TS
Bio-20/GC-20/OC-18/QR-21/RC-20/PAT-20

I had an 18AA/18TS and didn't get an interview until I sent my new DAT scores to LSU. It seemed they wanted to give me an interview but didn't like my first DAT (had a 15 in bio with 18's on up across the board), but I instantly got an interview once I resent the scores.

Thanks for the heads up bkille! I heard Dr. C was changing the interview up from the way Dr. Ritchie had done it. I'm really looking forward to Nov. 2nd!

your welcome and good luck again on Nov 2nd! After your interview, get ready to join the waiting game lol

Haha! Nice video cstroyan15!
It's funny because I have a pro tools setup I plan on taking to dental school with me, maybe we will make a parody as well.

Any of yall ever make a C in a pre-req? Im applying next summer and wondering if getting a C in a pre-req (physics) is that big of a deal! LSU is the only school I want to go to and I am an in-state resident.

Dgeorg6, I don't think having one single C will hurt you at all. LSU likes the DAT for sciences, and from Dr. C has said, LSU likes high DAT scores in biology and to see successful grades in upper level bio. I personally haven't made a C, but you really want to keep your SciGPA at around 3.5 or better.

LSU is becoming extremely competitive for instate, make sure you shadow NOW if you haven't done so. Schools in general do not like to see someone shadowing last minute. Also, become active in clubs, LSU likes to see someone who is active in community service.

I made a C in Physics 1 and I had an interview Sept 7 --- 3.6 gpa / DAT 23/25/19

Dgeorg6,
I think if you smack the DAT upside the head like Kingsta did, you SURELY won't need to sweat one C or two!

Are any of you guys LaTech pre-dents on here?

I already have around 50 hours of shadowing and 50 hours of volunteering with pre-dental society and on my own with another organization. I plan on getting at least 100+ in each

My oGPA is at 3.7 and sGPA is right around 3.6 and I took the DAT this past summer and got a 21 AA, 20 TS, 21 PAT.

I would have to say you are in pretty good shape. You apply early, and I'm pretty much positive you'll get an interview.

How did your interview go twh019?

Hey! My interview was cake. I got zero questions concerning my application (was surprised). I was asked why dentistry and some ethical questions. I spent much time in both interviews talking about my story of how I lost my home in Katrina and relocating/etc. I went first for both interviews and it seemed I finished really early for each one. I was sitting around all day waiting for everyone else to finish their interviews!

Gotta say our little "project" was the best though!!!

what is this "project" you speak of? lol

During the interview, you're group of interviewees all have to work together on a creative assignment. It is partly a filler for the day, but also Dr. Cheramie wants to see how you work together.

It is really fun, definitely not something to be concerned about!

My countdown on my phone officially says 12 days!! I remember when it was 70 something...I'm getting so nervous...

Will LSU "start" letting us know December 3rd or will they send notifications ON December 3rd. Also, do they notify by email, phone, letter or a combination of both? I know they told us during interview day but it has been a while!

I'm pretty sure he said email.. Also I think you would hear on the 3rd, because they have most likely made up their mind on you by this point.

Here's to class of 2017! (hopefully)

I wonder how early Monday morning we will find out?

I would imagine it's all been laid out pretty well. I'd bet the emails are automated to be sent Monday. Who knows what time it will be. I'd imagine around 9 or 10 AM. Maybe someone who was accepted prior can say? I don't honestly know any current LSUSD students.

It has felt like dec 3rd has taken forever to get here! Hoping to be a member of the c/o 2017!!! 🙂)))

Well LSU finally showed up in my AADSAS portal. Looks like they'll be updating it on monday! AH! Can't wait!

Mine doesn't say check back on Dec 1st. I already had my interview, my AADSAS said that it still under review and they will notify me for an interview...

I already interviewed as well but my portal says "When your application is complete,(If your status is under review, it is complete) it will remain under review until the class is full. It will not change until final decisions are made. You will be notified by email if you are invited for an interview." That was put up 11/29. Thoughts?

It actually said check back Dec 1 on my AADSAS mobile and on my PC it says check back on the 3rd so that makes more sense...

I've got offer made on mobile and check back on the 3rd on computer

I have offer made on my mobile as well... I hope that is a good sign!
