*** The Official Nova Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread ***

They probably do that so you bring your guard down and accidentally act a fool, just kidding. But..maybe

Hahahaha... yes I believe that as well. I was kind of nervous at the beginning because man, the interviewer was making jokes all the time and he was so funny that I had to laugh too. I was prepared for a more professional interview where you can focus on what you answer. However, It was a great interview.

you should be careful what you answer anyways and be active because if you lay back on your answers too then thats a problem. You should be relxed and be yourself.

Is the interview closed file? Also, does anyone know how many people they interview total?

Yes. I interviewed yesterday and thy are super relaxed! The doctor was so funny and trying to make the interview like a conversation between friends. So don’t worry. You will be surprised how chill is the interview.

Who was the professor you interviewed with?

It was open file interview. I don’t know how many people they interview total, but they interview 12 people per day Tue-Thur. Hope this helps!

To anyone that has interviewed at Nova so far, how was the interview day? What style was the interview? What time did you finish? Thanks!

The interview day was amazing, super laid back! The group I interviewed with were friendly. The actual interview was one on one and was a conversation more than an interview. I was done by 3 PM

I just interviewed there last week and it was amazing! The faculty, staff and students were all so welcoming and friendly! It was easy to relax there. They did a little welcome first and then two D4s did a tour and you had lunch with them to ask any questions. Then they did a group welcome with Dr. Lippman and then the interviews. It was very conversational. Nothing to worry or stress about at all! Mine was only about 10-15 minutes, but it felt like it went great! It was one-on-one. I was out by 2:30. Good luck! 🙂

Thank you so much for the reply! I’ve got 2 interviews under my belt but I’m really excited for Nova!

So based on the thread, it seems as if once you turn in your supplemental they will call you about 4 days laters and then call for interview invites just days after.

I received the call on July 16 but I haven't heard back since. I didn't see the call so it went to voicemail and I didn't call them back.... Should I have called back?

Hi! I am also an international student and I received an interview invitation yesterday!

I have my interview in a week and while I did prepare, I still feel nervous! Can anyone else who had an interview so far share their experience of the day? Is it REALLY as chill as everyone says?

Does anyone have information on a breakdown for cost of attendance for all four years (including books/supplies, fees, living expenses, etc.)?

Although the interviewer wants you to be relaxed and at ease you ARE RATED on your interview. The interviewer has an Evaluation Rubric and the score is part of the admission and at the end reviewed by the admission committee.
NOVA interviews about 700 applicants and the class size is only 125 students. Depending on how you do on your interview may decide if you are admitted or not. The trick is to see if you can focus on the purpose of the meeting ( why are you there?) and what you can convey about yourself in this situation ( without being prompted with questions).
Many candidates thought they had "good" interview and later were surprised.
Also NOVA has a high admission standard ( aver GPA 3.8 and DAT 20.7) so use the interview to improve your overall admission score.

Yes. I agree.
By the way they interview 750 applicants because the dean told us that day.

They also accept more applicants than the class size because many people decide to go elsewhere

Thank you for this! I've been preparing for a while as it is my first interview, but I kept seeing people either say it was a) super easy I.e no need to stress or b) very challenging and you need to go above and beyond to prepare. So this was really helpful in clarifying what I should look forward to!

Anyone interviewing 9/3 and received an interview cancellation due to the weather conditions? I wonder when they'll update us with rescheduling information.

I have my interview scheduled for tomorrow 9/4/19 and I have not yet received a cancellation email for it. However, on their website it says the campus will be closed on 9/4/19 and reopen on 9/5/19. I can’t reschedule my interview online because it’s within 5 days of it and it says to call a number if it’s within 5 days and the number automatically says “we are closed for hurricane Dorian”. I’ve emailed the admissions counselor as well as Dr. Lippman and am waiting for a response but what should I do?

I wouldn't worry about it. I would just wait and call them when they reopen. They aren't doing interviews right now, and they aren't going to penalize you because you didn't get the cancellation email. They are very nice and accommodating at Nova. I'm sure it will be fine!

First rejection via snail mail. AADSAS status still Received/Under Review, guessing it won't change any time soon.

I’m not home but my dad JUST told me I got mail from them... I didn’t want him opening it so I went on SDN to see if anyone got any letters through the mail... now I know.. :/

I was also supposed to have my interview today. Did you hear back at all?

NSU will resume classes and re-open all campuses and facilities on Thursday, Sept. 5. Interviews scheduled on Sep 5 and forward will be held.
If you missed your interview you need to reschedule it as soon as possible so you get a slot convenient for you. You can call admission on Sep 5th as well to reschedule. Do not worry about rescheduling, it will not affect you chances of admission.

I got my rejection letter via mail today.
Canadian student
GPA: 3.85
cDAT 20/20/20
I wonder why they rejected me....

I didn't even an interview and got rejected immediately, which is very odd... Is it normal for NSU to reject ppl this early?

im sorry to hear 🙁 I’m a fellow Canadian as well and applied to Nova. Haven’t heard anything yet but your stats were better than mine so I’m expecting a rejection now as well. Probably taking a while since they send it via snail mail. From what I’ve read from scavenging around sdn, nova and upenn are known to reject early without interviews. But hopefully you’ll bounce back with a bunch of interview invites!! Where else did you apply to?

It's not all about stats, so keep your head up 🙂

BTW, 4 years of research + different types of extracuricular and volunteer experience + 110 shadowing + 1 abstract + 1 meta-analysis publication
I don't know where it went wrong...

Hi
Im an international student, but i will graduate this semester from UCF. Gpa:3.5 OA and Science
Im a reapplicant, my dat last year was 15 AA and 14 TS.
This year i improved my dat, shadowing, and a small research.
I just applied to 17 schools and paid supplemental for NOVA which is my main school because i live in Florida.
My new DAT score is 19AA,21TS,20PAT
I visited Dr.Lippmann 4 times last cycle to discuss on how i can improve my application, and ill go next week to speak with him about my new application.
What do you guys think? I would pick NOVA over Harvard if i ever get there, thats how much im committed and dedicated for NOVA. plus my brother is applying with me and he has GPA:3.7 18 AA and 19TS, but has a Masters degree too.

What do you guys think of our chance of getting into our dream school? I know at least 10 students who are in NOVA dental program and they are my close friends too.
Your stats show improvement, which is great! Definitely keep in touch with Dr.lippman and you will be set.

Thank you for your post,
How do you recommend us to nail the interview? I have the exact same problem that you mentioned, I guess since the interview is chill its harder to show them why they should accept you over another person.

Just because it is a relaxed feeling and a so called 'chill' interview, doesn't mean they don't ask you questions, and it doesn't mean you don't have the opportunity to tell why you want to be a dentist, why you want to go there, and who you are as a person. It is relaxed in that they don't sit there and interrogate you. They want to see how you interact with people and what your communication skills are like 🙂

I prepared a list of 5 positive attributes about myself with examples and made sure I talked about them even when not asked.
So when we were talking about new innovations in science I said that I can relate to that because of my experience working in the research lab through the summer and added my strong character traits ... When the professor mentioned Nova's athletic facilities I added that I played for my school's team and what participation in sports thought me. At the end I thanked for the interview and shortly summarized my strengths and why they matter .... etc
If you are nervous that is OK but be genuine and do not lie-your trustworthiness is an essential quality. (this year the medical school actually withdrew an acceptance to a student based on something they found not to be true on her application)

Also remember that studies show that students with firm handshakes are more positive, more outgoing, and less socially anxious.
Good luck!

I do not think you can change their minds but if you call Dr. Lippman he might tell you. I am surprised because NOVA accepts Canadians and each year has at least 5 of them. Also you have excellent GPA and DAT so I am sure other dental schools that accept Canadians, like Case Western, UDM, Minnesota, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and some Canadian schools as well will be glad to accept you. Good Luck
