****The Official Tufts University Class of 2017 Acceptance Thread****

Are mid-late January interviews still considered to be "early" in the interview process for Tufts? I know they have a relatively high acceptance rate early on

From what I hear, it's still pretty early until February hits. Keep your fingers crossed! If you received an interview, good luck! I can tell you I ABSOLUTELY genuinely loved the dental school and the city of Boston and I'm sure you will too. I don't know why... The area? The feel? The reputation? The clean and beautiful facilities? The faculty and students? It's a shame that it's an expensive school though as I feel like that's the main reason why people are hesitant to go after gaining acceptance.

Is it true that if you are OOS for Tufts and you get an interview, they have a pretty good chance of accepting you? im basing this on the number in the 2011 ADEA book. Tufts interviewed 380 OOS people for that cycle and accepted 321 of them.

Anyone a recent graduate from Tufts Dental School who took out the full loan amount, whose parents are not either dentists or wealthy? If so, how are you managing your debt? I'm concerned.

interested in this too!

Tufts is private, so the whole "in-state or out-of-state" argument is irrelevant.

What IS relevant is that they accept ~80% of their interviewees (that figure was quoted from the admissions committee at interview). I'm guessing they can do that because 1) they do quite a bit of "weeding out" prior to interviewing, 2) their class sizes are gigantic (expected to be about 180-190 this year), and 3) the school is a bit cost-prohibitive, meaning they can accept considerably more than their final class size knowing that a good percentage of those offered admission will not accept.

If its a 80% acceptance rate from interviews, then I'm super excited!

But I am also curious about paying back loans. Tufts also offers some scholarships, right? I have heard of an academic merit scholarship that you get if you have a 21 AA and 3.5 GPA and above, and a scholarship that pays for 40% of your tuition.

I'm not sure about the 40% off tuition thing (I'm sure they have half-scholarships) but they definitely have merit-based scholarships too. I heard you need at least a 22 AA and a 3.5 GPA? Not quite sure.

On another note, does anyone know if we receive confirmation on when Tufts receives our $1500 deposit? Is it via email or phone call? I sent mine in a week ago and it's already at the school (based on usps delivery confirmation) but I want to make sure I get some sort of confirmation from the school before the January 4th deposit deadline. Hopefully I'll hear from them on the 2nd.

I wish it was 40% off! They give from $4000 to $6000 merit scholarships, although I am not sure what the cutoff is. And you have to be in the top 20 of the class (number not percent) to get it renewed for other years.

Anyone know when first round of acceptances go out after January interviews? 🙂

hey iDentastic, I sent mine in as well! Just email Gillian, I'm sure she'll let you know.

Thanks, I did that! I also had to call her about my disciplinary history form too, haha. My school takes a few weeks to get that done and I was freaking out about it since it wouldn't be sent until after the deadline. All set though!

Interview coming up in a few weeks, any advice from those who have already interviewed at the school? Any ethics questions that threw anyone off? Anything would be great🙂

Got an interview invite this afternoon!!! I'm thinking about signing up for feb 7

Got an invite as well! Pretty pumped! I can totally see this as becoming my number one choice. I picked Feb 5th because the 4th was already full. AHHH CAN'T WAIT!

got interview invite as well.. i was late in calling today and apparently the first week of February was all full! Signed up for feb. 11 and they said that the decision making still counted in the same batch as the everyone else in the first week of February. Does anyone know how many people get interviewed per day?

interview questions i got....

1. why dentistry?
2. why dentistry over medicine?
3. role model?
4. how do you handle stress?
5. what did you learn in your shadowing experiences?
6. any recent volunteer work?

pretty much typical questions. only the role model question threw me off. good luck with your interview!

I already posted this in the predental forum but am posting this here too...

If you're looking for a roommate and housing for this Fall 2013, please create a profile on http://jumpoffcampus.com/students. It seems like this website is used for all Tufts colleges so be sure to indicate that you will be attending Tufts dental school. I don't have a fb so if someone could post this to the fb wall that would be great! Thanks!

You'll get the blue book at the interview.

I thought I would at least get an interview 🙁

I just recieved a post-Dec interview invite from Tufts this morning! So they are definitely still sending them out. I cannot seem to reach anyone at the number listed to schedule my interview, has anyone else had this problem?

I had the same problem! I finally got through after trying for an hr! Its too late now but try again Tuesday!!

I'll be there too!! See you on the 11 🙂

I think they've sent out about 80 acceptances out of 185 seats (based on what they've said in beginning of Jan). But that doesn't mean that all of those people will choose Tufts though. Keep your hopes up and nail that interview!

Happy to finally post something here.....I just received my interview invitation! Been a long time coming!😱😱

Keep in mind folks, Tufts is the 5th costliest dental school in the US. Most that do decline, decline due to cost, because they get accepted to other schools as well! This is correct.

While it is costly, Tufts is actually on par with most private schools. Can't compare to state-schools of course with in-state tuition, but 60k/year is not relatively expensive compared to other private schools. NYU, USC, those are a different story... even for private institutions..

I don't know where you're getting your "60k" figure, because your total cost of attendance is closer to 75k, EXCLUDING any living expenses. Which means your actual cost of attendance can very easily be north of $100k ANNUALLY. PLUS, the financial aid ladies will not hesitate to tell you that you can practically be guaranteed that the trustees of Tufts will raise expected tuition costs every year.

Half tuition scholarships? Really? Based on financial need or...?

Tuition is 60k, as is most private schools (tuition only).

Living expenses vary depending on where you live. Not everyone can afford or will want to live in Boston. In addition, almost every institution (undergrad, varying professional schools, etc.) are raising their tuition annually. I don't see how this sets Tufts apart. Tufts is expensive, yes, I am not denying that. But pull some numbers for other private schools and compare their tuitions. It's pretty close, that's all I'm trying to say. Tufts is expensive. So are many other private dental schools.

Congrats - I also received an interview last Thursday...and scheduled it for Feb 19th!
