In order to get my mind of my imminent rejection from Columbia, I have started this UPenn thread.....I would like it to go as follows....but I don't want to be a "thread nazi" (no posting for you!!!!) so I'll just begin:

Interview Date: December 5th
Faculty Interviewer: Dr. Edward Doolin
Student Interviewer: Mr. Lee
Overall impression of interviews: 3
(1-5 scale, 1being poor, 5 being great)
Is Penn your top choice? YES!

Interview Date: Feb 1
Faculty Interviewer: Dr. William Schull
Student Interviewer: Michelle Smith
Overall impression of interviews: 4
(1-5 scale, 1being poor, 5 being great)
Is Penn your top choice? Close to it.

Interview Date: November 10th (Saturday)
Faculty Interviewer: Dr. Juan Grunswald
Student Interviewer: William Grande
Overall impression of interviews: 3
(1-5 scale, 1being poor, 5 being great)
Is Penn your top choice? Yeha!

I feel like an idiot for scheduling my UPenn interview as a practice, just prior to my UChicago interview on Nov. 12th 😳 (so Penn was my very first interview). Then again UChicago gets back to you in 4-6 weeks so at the time that factor weighed more heavily. But after checking out Penn I fell in love with the place and can't wait to hear back in March! 😛

Interview Date: 2/1
Faculty Interviewer: Dr. Wasserstein
Student Interviewer: Lost my packet at airport and don't remember 😳
Overall impression of interviews: 4
(1-5 scale, 1being poor, 5 being great)
Is Penn your top choice? Would be if it wasn't in Philadelphia.

so it's your top choice? but you only gave it a 3/5

Hey Jefe,

Looks like we were there on the same day. It was a pretty big interview group, but maybe we talked. Yesterday at Duke, I ran into a guy I recognized from our interview day at Penn. Small world.

Does anyone know how the Penn Residency Match List looks, or where one could find it. Does it look good?

As far as the Penn residency match is concerned--its one of the absolute BEST med schools; their match list is wonderful.

Interview Date: October 27th
Faculty Interviewer: Dr. Malcolm Cox
Student Interviewer: Ms. Melissa Midleton
Overall impression of interviews: 4(1st), 5(2nd)
(1-5 scale, 1being poor, 5 being great)
Is Penn your top choice? YES!

----------------------------------

I'll post some information that I received in an email a couple of weeks ago:

•••quote:••• Our admissions decisions will probably be forwarded to students sometime during the week of March 11. In addition, we will be sharing the
news via the status page so that applicants who are on Spring Break (somewhere in the world) can get the basic information from wherever they are! ••••I think it's pretty cool that Penn saves us the running to the mailbox...this is SO preferable to depending on the stupid USPS! (not that I'm bitter or anything!)

Good Luck Everyone...only two-and-one-half weeks left!

sigh.
I'm joining the official upenn thread.
but it should really be called the official-will-darkchild-go-to-medschool-this-year site.
Interviewed:
MSTP Jan24/Jan25
Interviewers: A bunch of faculty, I could probably rattle off their names - but thats work
Is Penn your first choice? Baby, its my only choice.
Come on Penn!!
And if I dont make it, que sera sera.
i always find that the best way just seems to reveal itself on its own accord - i'm just here for the ride.
Good luck all!

as for the interview - I guess overall it went at about a 3.

That must have been me <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> .

Oldman,

The 3 reflects the fact that I don't think my interviews went great, it's not meant to be my overall impression of the school!! I talked to plenty of other great faculty and students, and the facilities were nice, and CHOP and HUP are amazing places to get clinical training.

I don't remember who interviewed me. Penn is my number one choice. I loved the school, the students, and the curriculum...

•••quote:•••Yeah, I must have seen you there somewhere. Hard to really remember anyone in particular though. Remember talking to anyone in a dark grey suit? I asked the question about international opportunities during the QA session.

Interview Date: October 26th
Faculty Interviewer: Don't remember his name but he was an oncologist
Student Interviewer: Houston (from texas)
Overall impression of interviews:4.5
First choice?: very very close second

Interview date: Sat Jan 26th
Interviewers: one clinical faculty (surgery) and one student interviewer who was MD/PhD.
Overall Impression: 4, 5
Penn is the only school that could tempt me from attending my state school. I don't really expect to get in anyway--my stats are kinda low, for Penn anyway. Can't believe I even got interviewed

Penn held saturday interviews?
Are you sure?

I did not know that PENN had a status page- do you guys know the address?

Try:
<a href="https://www.med.upenn.edu/apps/MD_app_status" target="_blank">https://www.med.upenn.edu/apps/MD_app_status</a>

"Penn held saturday interviews?
Are you sure?"

Well they certainly did. Someone on the first page had one too and if you go to interiew feedback there are plenty of peeps on there who interviewed on Saturday. The Saturday dates were supposed to be for those who had to fly out to PA and they asked if you were from the NE not to take one of them. I had no vacation time left at my job so I called and they said it was okay for me to choose that Saturday. I'm not lying..geez...

Penn only interviews on certain days of the week, which is why they also have Sat interviews as well. They also had a webpage for a typical sat interview schedule, but i forgot the URL.

Interview Date: Nov 14, 2001
Faculty Interviewer: Dr. William Shull
Student Interviewer: Ms. Jennifer Young
Overall impression of interviews: 5(1st), 4(2nd)
(1-5 scale, 1being poor, 5 being great)
Is Penn your top choice? YES,I'd say top 3 choice.

Talking with Dr. Shull was pretty cool. I learned so much about him, and he wanted to tell me everything that was great about UPENN and its hospitals. One weird thing - he liked talking about other schools. Learned he went to Dartmouth and I think Duke Medical School. Its beena while since the interview, so correct me if i am wrong. But hey, he was such an easy person to talk to.

you know the funny thing about upenn - the MD interviews appeared to have all these different options - for the MSTP interview we werent given any choices. On top of that, the website didnt really show much.

I had a saturday interview on October 27th...

I was wondering if that was you.

Call me Geeves... Yes, in fact, that was me. Small world, isn't it?

Two girls isn't descriptive enough for your captive audience. We need MORE DETAILS!!!!!!

  😛  😛

They were two very cute women from Stanford, I believe.

Sorry Scoob, but there's not much else to tell...unless something happened after I dropped them off at the airport, that is.

Jefe, want to back me up on my assesment?
🙂

does anybody know the URL link for the Penn online status check?

i'm starting to get a little bit obsessive about penn. this is unhealthy. i'm from there, and i've gotten all nostalgic about philadelphia. it just seems so warm and friendly to me next to all those weird exotic locales like texas and chicgao and california. oh man. i don't want to get too attached with such a high chance that this relationship will be forever unrequited!

oh yes, that website -

<a href="http://www.med.upenn.edu/admiss/status/" target="_blank">http://www.med.upenn.edu/admiss/status/</a>

good luck to all. i'm just hoping to find out sooner rather than later so i can stop thinking about it!

So is it the 8th or 11th??? Every day counts!!!!

I vote for the 8th. (Even though I already check the status page almost every day, just in case they decided to meet early 🙂 )

i heard from a student that the committee already met and made their decisions. if thats true, wonder why they are waiting before sending them out...

Wow, everybody loves Penn. I wish I'd had a better experience there. I felt like my faculty interviewer didn't take me seriously and kept interrupting me. He asked me questions and then responded as though I'd answered how he expected I would answer, but not how I actually had. It was pretty frustrating.

So, I feel like probably I'm down on Penn because of one bad experience, and I know this sucks. Please tell me what you like so much about it.

Of course, Penn will probably make the decision for me by issuing a rejection come the 8th ... still, I have 1+ week to become enamoured before then!

thanks.

Even though you didn't like the faculty interviewer, how was your student interviewer, the tour, and all the other students you talked to? You shouldn't judge the school just on 1 conversation with somebody you probably won't even see again even if you go to that school.

Of course, you're right. It's totally arbitrary. Still, I think it's pretty hard not to let a bad interview color your impression of a school as a whole. That's why I'm trying to get a sense of what other people see as making Penn so great.(when I asked my interviewer what he thought about this, he basically gave me an answer along the lines of "you'll get a great education at any top school ..." which is fine and true, but didn't do anything for my enthusiasm!)

MY faculty interview was weird, but interesting, and my student interview went really well....probably the best one I had. I feel as though the student interview gave me the most feedback as to what the school is really like....Penn seems like a place I would be both happy and challenged at ...and that is why it is my top choice...I don't know if faculty interviews are the best things to judge a school by....at least I have been trying not to do that...although it is prob impossible..I just wish my faculty interview went a little better so I could feel a little more confident about my chance of admission.....

both of my interviews were relaxed and friendly. my student interviewer was a bit on the reserved side, but i still had a nice conversation with her. the faculty interviewer was great....it was a bit intimidating at first b/c it was in his office and he was sitting with his back to the huge windows, with me facing him staring into the sunlight! but he turned out to be very engaging and even funny. i guess the only iffy part was at the end when i went to shake his hand and just BLANKED on his name....i got the first part of it out and then mumbled the rest under my breath. hope he didnt notice! Penn was great overall...

I would give my left nut to go to Penn....and by my left nut I mean lots of money....and by lots of money I mean Monopoly money...and by Monopoly money I mean McDonalds' monopoly game pieces....and by McDonalds' monopoly game pieces I mean my left nut.....huh?

•••quote:•••and by my left nut I mean lots of money....and by lots of money I mean Monopoly money...and by Monopoly money I mean McDonalds' monopoly game pieces....and by McDonalds' monopoly game pieces I mean my left nut.....huh?••••I'm confused and my head hurts.

I'm with coalboy...... 😕 😕 😕 😕 <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" />

anyone interview on nov 7?

i was in the admissions office last week (dealing with ms1 business) and happen to ask what day acceptance letters were going out.

so.. straight from the source itself the _planned_ day is MARCH 11.

Hope that helps people aleviate some stress.

Best of luck.

So is Penn done with all of their interviews? I gave up hope a while ago, but I never received an E-mail one way or the other. I had all of my stuff in on Oct 4, and my status check says this: Application Status: Complete
Your application is now in the screening process. Complete applications will go through a series of competitive screenings. Screening will begin in October and continue into March, 2002. Applicants invited for interviews will be notified via email. The Committee on Admissions will make all final decisions in March, 2002.

Is all lost, or is there still a glimmer of hope for me to get an interview at Penn?

I think that they have stopped sending out interview invitations, but i am not completely positive about that.
