Ugh! I can't believe they did that to do you! Dirty rats! I couldn't tell you before, but you were rated as a 10+/10 by the admissions committee- I sat in the group that reviewed your file. I assure you this was pure politics and nothing to do with your qualifications and Penn's interest in you (they try to get a "mix" in the class from varying backgrounds, etc, and it ends up random at the end, at least to me). Please don't think it was anything personal against you! ••••

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

😛 😛 😛

How aggrevating is this. Between this and the Duke screwup (for those of you who don't know, Duke told many of us via the web that we'd been accepted when in fact we had NOT), I think I am going to lose it!!!

Somebody, anybody understand WHY?

Thanks all. Peace. 🙂 •••••Dude...don't worry..sounds like you are totally set!
Check your PM's.

Just to play devil's advocate, does this 10+/10 reflect only the student interview, or does it include the faculty one as well? Perhaps with the faculty one you weren't ranked as well?

In the end though, this process is amazingly arbitrary in a sense. They could fill the class with 4.0/40+ students, but that probably wouldn't make for a very interesting class. Who knows how/why they do what they do. But I'm really sorry it didn't work out in your case.

Don't count Duke out yet though...you could still get in!

I wish there was some explanation...the 10+ was from my faculty interviewer and the second was from the student interviewer...

SO CONFUSED...Damn useless interviews!

First AMCAS, then Duke, then Penn waitlist...

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

When will the pain stop???

Does anyone know if Penn ranks their students during the first year of basic sciences...I know it's P/F, but ranking would definitely produce a grade-like system...

I'm a student at Penn med. I don't think we are ranked. If we are, they're keeping it a really really big secret because none of us know about it and none of us care.

Is it my imaginaton or is this thread actually getting shorter?

There are now 25 posts per page, up from whatever it was before (15?). Same number of posts, fewer pages.

Hey,

I got the actual acceptance in the mail yesterday, and I got a scholarship. I think that just about solidifies Penn for me. Did anybody else get any news?

••••You got the full scholorship? Damn, I am jealous.

I just got the waitlist letter, which had a bit more information than the web page. As I feared, it is "rather unlikely" to be accepted from the second-tier waitlist. Oh well.

BOTS•••••DAGGG!!!, congratulations dude, I got my offical acceptance letter Saturday hoping it might have a nice financial surprise, but oh well, I feel blessed to just get in though.

I've been trying hard to get a copy of Penn's match list from any year in the recent past. I called today and I got the run around--talked to admissions, sent to student affairs, then admissions again to no avail. Either they don't get too many requests for it or don't like to pass it out. Anyway if anyone has one or any advice on how I could get one PLEASE post!

I cant believe the penn thread died as soon as acceptances rolled out. Keep the fire burning people (its not like I have an acceptance anyway)lol <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

In short: BUMP

Is Penn's applicant status website down...I was trying to log in to get some info on housing? Is it not working for anyone else????

its working now....

are a lot of you going to penn preview wkend?

I'll be there! But I can't make it until Friday, because I have a biochem exam on Thursday. Hopefully I'll see lots of you there!

I'm wondering (as a high-waitlisted person) when the preview weekend is taking place...anyone have details to share? I was hoping to get another shot at seeing the place, but I suppose it's not meant to be...ah well! Anyway, when is it, and also, please feel free to expound on your impressions upon your return, for my (and others') sake!

While I'm typing here, does anyone remember what the anatomy labs were like at Penn? Did anyone see them and care to comment? The day I was there, we were running a bit late. I remember the hallway with marble and lockers, etc., but I don't think we ever actually went into the lab. I don't think we saw the library, either.

Anyway, thanks, and enjoy your second-looking! 🙂

I dont think we saw the labs, but I DO remember the tour guide telling me that the shades in one of the labs ALWAYS had to be down because it faced the ICU...smart construction if you ask me

The 2nd look weenend thing is April 25-27th. There's a community service project on the first day, followed by some fun stuff at night, and then a series of lectures the next day, with other fun things at night as well. It sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun!

I seem to remember that they were going to begin taking ppl off of the waitlist today, on the 15th of April. Anyone know about this? I know the 'big' movement will be next month.

My question boils down to: HAS THE WAITLIST BEGAN TO MOVE?

has anyone received a financial aid package yet from Penn?

Does anybody know when the waitlist starts to move substantially?

i called ~ 2 wks ago, & the lady on the phone told me that they were not expecting mvmt on the waitlist until after may 15th.

Has anyone received their financial aid package yet...or do they plan on giving it to us during the second look weekend next week????? That's what they did at another school I went to revisit

kjigga, I haven't received one yet either. But when I e-mailed the Financial Aid Office they said I should receive my package in about 2 weeks (which means it should've arrived a few days ago!). So it seems that if you had all of your information in by April 5th, supposedly you'll be receiving a package soon. But with all the delays we've seen this year, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see some numbers until May! Ahhhh! 😡

TG,
They gave me the same story, so I'm hoping it's on the way...they really should know how important our financial status is in our decision to attend a certain medical school---without it we don't have the whole picture, ya heard me!

so, who's going to Penn's 2nd look weekend this Thursday?! I'll be there, but not until Friday. I think it'll be a blast! 🙂

I'm going to the second look weeked- but my student host still has not replied to me- so I emailed a member of the student host commitee on Sunday and I haven't heard from her either! I called the office today- and the person I was supposed to talk to was not there- so they will be calling me later.
I guess I'm used to this stuff by now because it doesn't bother me at all- besides, no one could mess up as much as Duke did this year 🙄

I'll be there...it should be a good time, Philly is usaully poppin during the Relays! I'm hoping it will help me make a more well-informed decision...see the rest of you SDN'ers there. We should all wear name tags...you know the ones that say "Hi, my name is xxxxx, and I'm addicted to SDN"...that way we'll know each other

hey, I finally received my financial aid package! It's not as good as I would like, but not nearly as bad as Tufts either! Anyone else get the e-mail? They said they'll be discussing our packages/options at 2nd look weekend too.

I got the financial aid email today. I got a 1/2 meriit scholarship (15,000 a year for 4 years) is that good or do they give out a lot of those?

Since the Columbia thread has been bumped, I though that I would go ahead and bump the Penn one too.

Who else out there is waiting for Penn?? Any thoughts on when we might hear from them???

I will be waiting with you (I have an interview with Penn next week). The MSAR says Penn's earliest notification date is 3/1, so I'm thinking probably late Feb-early March.

Penn is my top choice (great school and Philly is a nice cheap place to live in), so I'll be pretty nervous as the notification date draws nearer...

I was told we would hear on March 10th. This goes for both MD and MD/PhD applicants (such as myself). I interviewed there last week, and this is what we were told by admissions staff.

Good luck all!

-Naphtali

Yeah Penn... I'm interviewing there next week.... an awesome school in my hometown- yeah, I'd sell a few body parts to go there!

The interview feedback seems to indicate a low key interview day... y'all concur?

YEAH PENN!!

cheers,

Tom

Hey everyone

I interviewed way back in November...interview day is very stress-less, the interviewers and guides are very nice. Their hospital tour left something to be desired, but all in all, I think anyone who has yet to go will be impressed.
