Alright, I got a situation that maybe you SDN people can help with.

My family lives out in the country on a 100 acres of farmland. This being the case, we don't have a fence around our property or anything like that since our dogs have a large portion of land that they can run on. However, our neighbors dog won't stop comming into our yard. The main problem is our neighbors did nothing to train their dog and they are hardly home so its kind of an attention deprived puppy who has no training at all. We have talked to our neighbors and they know their dog keeps comming in our yard and jumping of people and driving our elderly lab dog crazy. They tried tieing him up for a while but he still comes over to our yard all the time.

Anybody know of a way to keep this unwanted dog off our land?

Given the situation, you might be better off trying to train the dog.

We had the same problem. My neighbor's/cousin's dogs kept coming over into our yard which was quite annoying because they kept on tearing up our stuff and drove our big dog nuts. I've also heard about them killing other animals so we really don't want them around our chi mix and goats. So, it scares me to death when they come over and our animals are out (especially because out little dog tries to pick fights with even our bigger dog). They're mostly friendly, but they've growled at us before while we tried to keep them away from the goats while the goats were being worked with.

We didn't talk to my cousin about it because I don't think she would care because her parents cows get out often and they don't care which is also very annoying and her old dogs were poisoned presumably by our other neighbors. To keep the dogs away from our big dog when he's out we have a fence (its not very big, but big enough for him to run a little bit and get some exercise) that was inexpensive because its just three eletric wires. So we don't have to worry about any dog fights. None of our animals gets out of a fence unless we're right there with them or they're tied right by the house.

What I'm guessing finally stopped them for a bit (knock on wood) was my cousin's son hit one with a dirt bike and during his recovery period the other dog stayed home with him (thank god). The dog is fine though. Not something I wanted to see happen, but it did get rid of a nuisance although it happened in an unfortanate way.

Short of you convincing your neighbor to tie the dog up or something bad happening to the dog I'm not sure what you could do.

Go speak to the neighbors again and explain that this is causing issues, and if the dog continues to come over, you will report it. Be very sincere, and a bit apologetic, but explain that you feel you have no recourse, since you have discussed the problem before and it is unresolved.

next time dog is present, take photos and report the dog. or take it to the shelter, with the contact info for your neighbors. where I grew up, dogs on the wrong property had a very similar outcome; death. farmers were quick to shoot because the cost of damage to animals and fences and crops was way too high.

Agree with speaking to them again and explain that you are considering reporting the dog. Quite honestly, it sounds like the dog might be happier if it ended up having to be re-homed.

When my dog was younger, she barked "uncontrollably" constantly. However, when we received a warning letter from the local animal control, we quickly worked on ways to lessen her barking (humanely, of course!). Perhaps something official from a local animal control would help. (

sadly, she has now lost her bark due to medical complications - ironic!
