I just can't even wait to get back to seeing people on an inpatient basis much less the ED, another 9 days of outpatient oncology left... 🙁

Every non-EM rotation I do only serves to remind me why EM is so right for me. I prefer making the decision of "admit or discharge home" as opposed to actually being the one admitting the patient. Tomorrow is a call day.

So, if you plan a trip to the beach when it is 80 where you are, and it snows at the beach, do you think they should give you a refund?

It's a nice, cool, rainy day today, perfect for snugging with the little beagle while reading for tomorrow's ethics class. Yay for snuggly beagles. 😍

It's been a snowy/slushy/rainy/cold day and I'm still on IM call. I win.

Yes! Call is done. $1 burger night. My friend won a party so free beer too! 😀

Hey SG...still no second packet for me today. 🙁

You should be getting it soon, it's in a huge white envelope that is folded over to resemble the shape of envelope of the first packet. Nothing will feel official until the contract and resident license application gets here though...

Yeah, someone told me yesterday that I should threaten your beagle.
Then her husband asked "Does she have a dog?"

Hmmm...still no second packet from Cinci. Jeez...I only live 4 hours away.

I finally went grocery shopping...now realizing I didn't really buy anything. Oops.

That's weird, especially since I'm 16 hours away via car. Well, for what it's worth, we can't even do the online training yet because it's not up. The second packet was from the Health Alliance office of GME if you want to ask if yours was sent.

I guess every state has a different average amount of time for their residents to get a resident license, so some places just send them out the day after match to be sure they have all their residents able to actually practice come July 1. Maybe it doesn't take so long in OH, thus the lack of things to fill out up to now compared to classmates I know who matched in the south.

By the way, having 2 dogs to bring has really narrowed down the number of places we are going to check out 🙁 I can't believe some places don't allow boxers, they are so friendly. It's also ridiculous some places use a combined weight limit.

Hmmm...well I'll give them till next week before I start hounding them. I just want all this stuff said and done before I take off for vacation, etc.

Sorry to hear about the home hunting. I never realized the pet policy would ever work like that at some places. I'm hoping to head out there myself not this weekend, but the one after. I've found plenty of "loft" places to check out. Is over the rhine really that bad? 😉

I still don't have a packet from PCMH, and it's not even 4 minutes away.
You won't get a packet. You will get a letter that has a webpage, so you can go print out the packet. Then you can mail it all back to them on your dime.
Why they couldn't email the webpage link is beyond me.
Have fun with it, there are at least 50 pages.

For me, the obvious easy solution is to print out the packet on the school's computer and then walk over to the GME office. Being local has it's benefits. 😉

pad.. its been slow on here.. i guess ive been missing and the encouragement is lacking 🙂

post pad...went out for the first time in a long time last night...realized I can't wait til Jan of 2008 when they will ban indoor smoking. Uggh...feel terrible after all the 2nd hand smoke.

I'm so glad FL has been smoke free for a few years now, it really makes a huge difference!

golden weekend... today has been great so far.. gonna go fishing tomorrow! im stoked

6 more days of med school to go (including today!). I'm on call today, though. I managed to d/c home all my patients on Friday, so it's one of those "sit around and wait days." Hopefully the senior will take pity on an apathetic M4.

SG...my email got bombarded with GME stuff, but still no packet. Anything in there actually useful considering I've got the stuff we need through email I'm guessing?

Went to STA yesterday to figure out some logisitics of my vacation (looks like Costa Rica or S.America is where we will head). We want nature/adventure/beach lounging, as opposed to city/museums/shopping, etc. I'm hoping this trip works out b/c it sure would be a great time.

Odd, I didn't get any emails, I'm assuming they are the same thing if it includes info about hospital orientation, forms to fill out and send back about Access Anywhere and Lastword, a pharmacy card, and then your username/password for the online training using New Innovations. The online training is up now too as of friday for me.

Good luck with the trip! It sounds like the kind of trip we'd want to take, but probably won't go on until next year. 🙁

Well they were emails with links to the online training and "post tests" for these online training sessions. All that other stuff...nope. I'm going to email Lisa tomorrow if it doesn't show up.

Yes...I've vacationed in San Diego where it was smoke free and had a great time and didn't feel terrible the next day. I can't wait for it to happen here...even if it is only 6 mos before I have to move again.

Thanks to all who have posted (and contributed to) the interesting cases recently.

My condolences as well.

On another thought...my so and I were discussing conferences and he made an extremely good point (he is not interested in EM right now, but knows me well enough to know how ADD we can all be). Are these conferences organized by someone outside of EM so that they can run smoothly, or does everyone kind of do their own thing when they think to do it? In his terms, he figured it would be a cluster-@(*& and it got me thinking. What have been the experiences of those of you who have gone?

Caught a second virus since match day. Been battling a fever/sore throat all day. Called in sick from subi. It was actually legit, plus I'm taking care of a neutropenic patient and would feel like crap if she got sick. Only 3 more days of subi left.

Got a great email from my school today. I guess I'm a few days late in sending in the names and email addys of my evaluators. I've been threatened with an F for my subi for "professionalism" reasons if I don't turn it in by tomorrow afternoon. That sounds professional to me, threaten to fail someone who shows up and does all his work b/c you haven't turned in evaluator names. Not like we don't have other things to deal with right now, either.

Gotta love the double standard! 👎

Once you get to cincy life will improve. I love my program. They look out for us, they dont put a ton of silly hoops up for us. Now our med school.. lets just say I told the dean they would never get a shiny nickel from me EVER. I give money annually to my undergrad and Ill continue to do so but never to my med school.

Ahh the harvard of the midwest.. Anyways will good luck on finding a place to live. I have heard nothing but great things about your future program. Good luck future residents.

oh 3 of 7 call nights done.. im stoked.. trauma is almost over!

I am completely technicologically handicapped, so I figured I would ask you guys. What is the cheapest but still useable way to own a pda? I guess I'm asking how much would I have to expect to spend per month to have internet access or something similar? Thanks all!

While in Kentucky last week, I had a very drunk patient who had met the two dudes while SOCMOB. I was walking past his exam room and I hear "Excuse me sir?". I responded with "What did you call me?". Lesson #1: the drunks in rural Kentucky have better manners as a group than most other places.
