Edit/delete your post. The person was banned, but lives on in your quote.
4 weeks of sub-i then medical school officially ends for me. I hate the wards.
I have 1 more week of vacation, then 4 weeks of ethics (meets twice a week for 3 hours a day), and then I'm done with med school. Considering I have a year of surgery staring me in the face, I don't feel the least bit guilty about having a few slack weeks. 😎
I don't mind it so much except for the fact that I'm doing it at Advocate Christ, which is about 45-60 minutes away from Chicago on any given traffic filled day. I rather not commute. Oh...and yes I'm a lazy bastard and have NO desire to do ANY work right now. The thought of full H&P's and roundingis making me have an allergic reaction.
Does not sound like fun at all, especially with the commute 🙁
I have 4 weeks of "Interdisciplinary Oncology." It's basically a useless rotation some vice dean created so he can say he has an innovative curriculum. 🙄 He's now been named the new dean for some new DO school. 🙄 The potential to skip is so high, they make us have the attendings sign a sheet everyday to prove we showed up, like we are a bunch of kids. 😡
You realize I'm going to have to organize a Cincy bachelor party now...whatever that entails.
Sub-I experience to date...
Show up Monday morning for orientation to find out I'm on call. No patients at that point. Wait around till 4pm when I get a page from my senior. "What are you doing right now?" I begin to curse the world b/c I know I'm getting an admit. "Nothing." I respond. "Well it's a slow day...you wanna go home?" I yell "yes!" and proceed to leave my call night at 4pm. Go out with friends for a bday dinner and proceed to drink a pitcher of potent, delicious margaritas.
Show up Tuesday at 9am. Still no patients. Team is now post call. 1 hour of morning report, and 1 hour of teaching rounds. Chat with my senior to figure out what's going on since we are on short call tomorrow. She lets me know she won't be around tomorrow afternoon or Thursday afternoon, which means NO PATIENTS FOR ME. We aren't allowed to enter orders so any patient I have is essentially the senior's patient. She lets me know I will not have any patients until we are on call next...on Friday.
It is now 130pm, and I am home. So far so good. 😀
Oh here's one for you all...my lil sis has had this rash come and go (well, down to 2-3 spots before it flares back up) for the past 4 weeks. It has been mostly on just her legs, but will spread from leg to leg to her arms, back to her leg, to her other leg, to her abd, etc. We tried hydrocortisone cream and benadryl with no luck. Any ideas? Too bad I haven't had skin yet in class (comes next year for me)... Oh ya, the spots were red and puffy with a white halo. Is there still a chance it is just allergies?
Oh and another note, we did bring her to a nurse practitioner (dr was out of town for the week), who gave her clarinex in case it was an allergy, but then said it could be something viral. Does this make any sense to you?
If you have more questions just ask...and no, I don't know if it itches because I've never seen her even scratch at a mosquito bite (and she can't tell us if it does...she is special ed and I don't think she comprehends what it means.)
My jeep is causing me to tan an at alarming rate. Something about not having a roof.I'm sunburned. 🙁

Is this really how med students view sub-Is? Maybe I have been a little blue eyed but it seems to me most M4s like "playing doctor" before real life starts next year. And it's not like I have much to do with their evals, either, so I don't think they are all just trying to suck up.
I love giving a really sick patient to the student and letting him/her run with it. I thought that love was shared by the students. Perhaps I am getting cursed at more than I know?😱
Input?

I'm sunburned. 🙁
Darnit. Miami wasn't sunny enough for me to get sunburned. 😡
Tampa is 😛
You should see how many rotations we have to sign in to because of Fetus' class before us.
So let's see...6 days of work per week for 4 weeks. That leaves 24 days of actual work before my nice 8 weeks off before orientation. Jeez...and I thought the three weeks waiting for match day were tough. I'm rethinking everything now.
Tampa Schmapa. I love miami.. even if the sun doesn't come out all day and allow me to bask in it for 8 hours a day.
😎
Hope there is more sun today. Are you staying on South Beach?
Call day tomorrow...bleh.
DW, SG... Did you guys get your contracts/packets in the mail yet? I'm leaving the country tomorrow and I haven't heard back from anyone regarding whether I need to get paperwork back to them before I leave... 😕
Nope, no packet/contract yet. I can PM you once it gets here so you'll know what's in it and if there is a deadline or anything. Hopefully you'll have access to email/internet. Have fun on your trip! 🙂
I'm back.
