I think that depends on the amount. Was is a KEG or a 12 oz? Either way, I'm sure it will be ok since you were a minor. If you go to the court an get a case report printout, it will explain your charges.

From what I understand (for pharmacy anyway), the process is:
1. Application
2. Interview
3. Acceptances (or not)
4. Background Check
5. Student Intern License (most likely on your 2nd year if going to a 4 year program, 1st year for a 3 year program).
Either way, I think you should be fine, just as long as you don't get arrested anytime soon. 🙂

IN California at least, for your intern license you'll need to declare if you've ever been arrested and if so, what the circumstances were, etc... regardless of how much time has elapsed since that occurrence.
But, that said, I have a hard time believing they'd deny you an intern license based on a single arrest, unless it had something to do with stealing C-IIs or something.

i think for anyone who has a gpa over 3.4 shouldn't even have a second thought about applying. I have a 2.9 with a B.A. in Biology and I'm going to take a shot at it. I know I'm probably not even competitive and would be grateful if anyone even looks at my application, but I'm not giving up hope. If i dont' get in this year, I'll take a year to improve my gpa and re-apply. I does not hurt to try. 😉

And now, here is my situation. If I could get some constructive advice, I'd highly appreciate it and will honor you for the rest of my life. I only recently decided I want to go to pharmacy school. I have a very good reason, which is personal/family-oriented and LONG so I won't go into details here. But I want to apply to start professional school Fall 2010.
I've registered to take the PCAT this October and have started studying. I've taking all prerequisite courses except 3, which include Microbiology, Human Physiology and Prof. Writing. This is my last year in college and I will be getting a BS in Biomedical Engineering come Spring 2010. My cumulative GPA is about 3.537, my science/math 3.3 something, and my pre-requisites for pharmacy 3.203 I think. Generally speaking, my math is excellent. I have never gotten any less than an A in any math classes, which has ultimately saved my freaking life. Organic chemistry is what had hurt me so badly. (I've never failed a class according to standards though I consider them failures myself.)
I've done tons and tons of volunteering, tutoring, working, research BUT the big problem is I have ZERO pharmacy experience. (Because I just decided.) Initially, I was heading for medical school. (Took my MCAT this summer and got a 37.) But after self-reflection for over 2+ months, I'm so absolutely positively sure I'm not fit and do not want to be a physician. I'm trying to ask around to see if I could get a clerk position at a pharmacy and then take the PTCB and get certified after finishing my applications. I'm actually also very confused about pharm. tech licensing. My friend said to take the PTCB, CPJE (State Law Test?), and 180 hrs of externship?
Would this look bad that I'm so behind in the game and is a turning-around-from-medical-school-with-a-good-reason person?
I've already contacted the admission adviser but just barely yesterday so I won't get her reply anytime before this horribly long and stressful weekend end. Therefore, any responses would be wonderful. I know I blabbed on for forever so thank you so much for even reading! 😀

My writing skill is above average and I'm a grammar nerd, so I'm not too concerned about the strength of my PS. My interviewing skill is not very good though. I'm quite sociable if I was talking to people I know, but strangers and professional people with more prestige and education than me? I suck at facing them.
I'm only applying to 3 schools this cycle. Utah, Seattle, and MCPHS-Boston.

Welcome!
Your friend sounds confused. Every state handles Tech licensing differently, so look up your local state Board of Pharmacy's website to see what they require. We don't even know where you are. 😛
I think I read that correctly. You must have a really good reason to have taken the MCAT (and gotten a 37!) and decided med school wasn't right for you. This is hard for us to talk about without a brief summary of your reason.

Additional info: I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from ASU (2006). I participated in undergrad research and took specialized coursework in pharmacology (B), bioethics (A), Health Psychology (A), Abnormal Psych (A), which I think pertain to the pharmacy field. I also took a lot of history/lit and social science courses in which I excelled. Most of my *bad* grades came from my freshman year when I partied a lot. I failed out and had to be readmitted. I retook all those courses and got A's in most of them, but I did stumble here and there along the way and got 2 F's that cannot be erased from my transcript (2 liberal arts classes) and brought down my GPA considerably. I also got a C in stats and a B in calc (my math skills are not exactly the best). My senior year at ASU, I got all A's and one B+ and since I graduated, I have only received A's (all courses taken at the community college level including microbiology, microeconomics, public speaking, anatomy/physiology, and chemistry).
Also, I was an idiot and got a DUI when I was 21 years old (blew a .08). I pleaded guilty, paid the fine, spent my night in jail, and went to the required alcohol and defensive driving classes. It has been five years and I haven't drank since (I swear!). In fact, the very smell of alcohol makes my stomach turn. Here in Arizona, the laws are pretty strict because of our wonderful Sheriff Joe Arpaio, but after five years, it drops off. I have a fingerprint clearance card, too.
OK...I think that about does it! One more thing: I am an underrepresented minority. I know this is not supposed to count, but I know two of the schools I am applying to look upon it favorably. As a political moderate, I don't really agree with this but whether or not I indicate it on my application won't matter because if I DO get an interview, they are obviously going to know that I am latina.

I looked up the Utah Board. Figured it out, haha. Thanks for the tip! I was so confused before.
Reason is one of my family members found out she has cancer and osteoporosis. Anybody would think this should drive me towards medical school even more, right, but no, it didn't. I realized the importance of drugs and found the background of each drug more and more interesting by the day. I've been exposed to a lot of drug development throughout my academic career, so I'm thinking of research pharmacist but when I get old and "dumb", retail wouldn't be a bad backup. Even so, I guess I didn't have to drop my so-called pediatric neurosurgeon route, but I did anyway because I realized, I will never be able to sit down for 2 hours to explain how the body works to a patient. That's just not who I am. I care about others' livelihood but I prefer a different day-to-day life, whether for my family's sake or my own sanity. I think that was "brief" enough. 😉
I finally got to talk to my adviser btw. I think I'll be okay. Thanks for the help!

Okay, so I just put in my early decision application to Virginia Commonwealth University on August 31st. Here is basically what my app looks like:
I'm getting a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Christopher Newport University.
a)Schools I am applying to (early decision): VCU
b)Overall GPA: 3.66 (including dual enrollment courses taken in high school)
c)Math/Science GPA: 3.7-3.72
d)GPA in one or two last school years: 3.75
e)PCAT score: 83 (taken Oct. 2008)
f)Pharmacy experience: 48 hours in small community pharmacy filling scripts, 56 hours at VA hospital pharmacy dispensing scripts
g)Date of application: August 31st, PharmCAS early decision
h)Number and source of LORs: 4; 1 from Pre-Health Committee at undergrad university ("outstanding student" rating), 1 from pharmacist/mentor, 1 from research mentor/biochem and cell professor (I got the highest grade in their biochem class), and 1 from a previous employer (I was a Chemistry laboratory assistant)

One: I am a resident of Virginia. I'm not sure if that will weigh anything with VCU.

thanks so much!!! i do feel like i would be more comfortable if i did work on interviewing a little more. thankfully, my pre-health committee at school did a mock interview before writing my letter of recommendation and we have mock interviewing available through our career services office. I will definitely have to make an appointment to do some mock interviewing with them!

I would take more classes, but I'm working full-time at the Red Cross which is really important to me, and it's too much to work and go to school.
b. Overall GPA: 3.65--Should be a bit higher now since I got As in econ and public speaking.
c. Math/Science GPA: 3.65--PharmCAS calculated that it's the same as my overall.
d. GPA in last one or two school years--A little bit lower, around 3.5? My grades went down a tad once I got more involved in extracurriculars.
e. Complete PCAT scores (or just composite)--I'm signed up for Oct. PCAT, but I'm probably not going to take it now that I'm only applying to CA schools.

I was going to apply to some out of state schools before I got a job, but now it's just impossible for me to handle work, school, and studying for PCAT. I've put a lot of thought into it, and have decided that I should focus on the 3 schools I *really* want to go to and work. So what are my chances, honestly, for the schools I'm applying to? Am I crazy for only applying to 3?

I was going to apply to some out of state schools before I got a job, but now it's just impossible for me to handle work, school, and studying for PCAT. I've put a lot of thought into it, and have decided that I should focus on the 3 schools I *really* want to go to and work. So what are my chances, honestly, for the schools I'm applying to? Am I crazy for only applying to 3?

You are shortchanging yourself by only applying to three schools. Also, since you missed Tier 1 (and Tier 2?..since you're posting this now) for UOP, you have an even lesser chance. UCSD only takes 60 people and that in itself is not easy to get into and UCSF is #1. I don't doubt your abilities, but you could definitely increase your chances by applying more broadly.

Here is my predicament: I'm going into second year of university and I'm really anxious to apply to the University of Waterloo. Problem is, I will be missing two of the pre requisites by the end of this school year, but they can be finished in time for the Jan. 2011 entrance date. I don't know if it's worth applying this year, or if I should just wait until next year and apply to UToronto and Wayne State along with Waterloo! What do you guys think? Do I have any chances of getting into any of these schools with my stats(obviously, I'll have to write the PCAT for Toronto and Wayne State, but based on the rest of the stuff?

I recently graduated from Berkeley. My overall gpa is 3.27 and my science gpa is like 3.34 and math gpa is horrible-2.94.I m so scared that I wont get in nywhere..And I took Pcats in August, which I know I did horrible in because i suck at taking tests..so any word of advice?

I guess my main question would be if i should apply right now for this cycle or wait till the next years cycle to apply? Also i have a question on how i should include my future publication in the cancer research journal because its still being reviewed?

IMO, you have a good chance at UMN and UIC, given that your interviews go well. Because your extra-curriculars don't look expansive, be sure to elaborate on any leadership roles in your interviews. Good luck!

Assuming you are out of state for Iowa, getting in there might be more a stretch, given your PCAT is on the low side. Sorry if I sound harsh!

Hey all,
I would really appreciate it if I could get some feedback on my situation.
I started out as a GPPA student at UIC, meaning that I had guaranteed acceptance into the UIC Pharmacy School as long as I kept my GPA at a 3.5. Unfortunately, that did not happen for me, due to familial circumstances my Freshman and Sophomore year.
After being dropped from the program, I pursued a Biological Sciences major, but was not performing well in the classes that I decided to switch to a Sociology major instead.
My Math & Science GPA is extremely, extremely low, a 1.96 to be exact because I failed Gen Chem II, Orgo I, and Orgo II. I retook these classes already, but I was only able to obtain a C. I re-calculated my Math & Science GPA if I was to retake these classes and receive an A in them, but it still comes out to a low 2.51.
I'm graduating this fall with my B.A. in Sociology, but I am considering just starting fresh at a junior college with my Pre-pharm pre-reqs, and only submitting those grades when I apply to pharmacy school. Would that be considered academic dishonesty?
Also, I have been a pharm tech for Walgreens for the past 5 years, I work a computer lab job, I currently volunteer at a hospital pharmacy, I have done research in 2 studies, I have been a laboratory aide, I have served leadership positions in two organizations on campus, and I have received two student service leadership awards from UIC's Chancellor.
I took my PCAT in the spring (but did not study for it =/), and I received a composite of a 49. I am retaking the PCAT in January, and I'm hoping to obtain a score of 85+.
So, would it better for me to start fresh in my Pre-pharm pre-reqs? I am just afraid that it would be considered academic dishonesty if I did not submit my previous grades & degree from another institution when applying to pharmacy school. I would really appreciate it if I could get some feedback on my situation.
I started out as a GPPA student at UIC, meaning that I had guaranteed acceptance into the UIC Pharmacy School as long as I kept my GPA at a 3.5. Unfortunately, that did not happen for me, due to familial circumstances my Freshman and Sophomore year.
After being dropped from the program, I pursued a Biological Sciences major, but was not performing well in the classes that I decided to switch to a Sociology major instead.
My Math & Science GPA is extremely, extremely low, a 1.96 to be exact because I failed Gen Chem II, Orgo I, and Orgo II. I retook these classes already, but I was only able to obtain a C. I re-calculated my Math & Science GPA if I was to retake these classes and receive an A in them, but it still comes out to a low 2.51.
I'm graduating this fall with my B.A. in Sociology, but I am considering just starting fresh at a junior college with my Pre-pharm pre-reqs, and only submitting those grades when I apply to pharmacy school. Would that be considered academic dishonesty?
Also, I have been a pharm tech for Walgreens for the past 5 years, I work a computer lab job, I currently volunteer at a hospital pharmacy, I have done research in 2 studies, I have been a laboratory aide, I have served leadership positions in two organizations on campus, and I have received two student service leadership awards from UIC's Chancellor.
I took my PCAT in the spring (but did not study for it =/), and I received a composite of a 49. I am retaking the PCAT in January, and I'm hoping to obtain a score of 85+.
So, would it better for me to start fresh in my Pre-pharm pre-reqs? I am just afraid that it would be considered academic dishonesty if I did not submit my previous grades & degree from another institution when applying to pharmacy school. I tought community CPR and trained Lifeguards, and CPR Pro for a number of years. I coached Special Olympics for a bit also, in swimming and powerlifting. I put in over 300+ hours teaching people how to swim. I used to be assistant Aquatics Director at a local YMCA. I'm currently a Registered Nurse, with 5 years of experience. I've trained staff in various competencies, including PICC line removal, and medical-surgical orientations. On occasion I work as charge nurse, also.
j. Self-perception of interview skills
I am confident during an interview. I have no problems, here.
k. Overall impression of personal statement quality
I am a good writer who can convey my thoughts well on paper. I've been told I am a "gifted writer."

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know I can get my GPA up to 3.0. Nursing school left me with a string of C's, and now I'm doing my best at (some very challenging) upper division courses. With over 180 units in my academic history, gpa is very tough to move up. My biggest concern is my GPA. How bad is it to have a 2.95? I think I can boost it up to 3.0. I'll graduate May 2010 with a Bachelors in Biology, and a minor in Chem.

Hi. I just recently found out about these forums from my counselor and would definitely like some honest feedback on the best path I should take. I have little other source of help/advice and would appreciate any assistance.
A little about myself: I'm currently attending a northern California state school and will be graduating Spring 2010 with my BA in Chemistry. I have worked at 2 different pharmacies for 4 years now. For extracurricular, I have a music background and have tried to use my talents to help boost my application and have joined a few academic clubs on campus. I recently completed my PharmCAS application. PharmCAS calculated my Science GPA to be 2.76, Math 2.86, Non-science 3.64, and my overall GPA 3.02. As for my pcats, I had a composite score of 67% (43 verbal, 75 biology, 26 reading comp, 91 quantitative ability, 77 chemistry, and 3s on both my writing). I recently applied for Northstate College of Pharmacy for early admission, but things don't look favorable (a few people I know have already received their supplementals and interviews and applied for normal admission and they have much better backgrounds than I do).
Now, I have tried my best to learn about the process but I am not sure what I am doing or the best path to take. Clearly, looking at my stats, I am no better than an average student and far from competitive. I would like to know if there is hope and if my stats are viable enough to get into any of the PharmD programs. I aspire to become a pharmacist more than any other profession, but I would also like to know the harsh reality of whether I should pursue a different career option or continue to follow my goal.
Although i'll value all the guidance from anyone here, I would definitely appreciate the opinion from those with past experience. I looked at the school list and was completely overwhelmed. I managed to knock out a few schools that were far out of my reach but the list still goes on and on. Assuming I get declined from Northstate, I would like to know a few prospect schools that would be best suited for someone in my situation; places that would be within my caliber. At this point, location isn't a problem. I am willing to travel anywhere, pay whatever it costs, and do whatever it takes to get my foot in the door. I would like to know if anyone has been in this kind of circumstance and if you guys would recommend some programs I can check out.

Critically, I'm wondering WAMC because I am applying from out of state for these two schools (UNC only allows 18% of their seats to go to out-of-staters), and because I'm fuzzy on their non-science prerequisites. For example, UNC asks for 9 hours foreign language, and I'm debating whether to kick my own butt trying to pack these in or not in my last semester.
