Well, I sent in my deposit today! Unless I get an acceptance from Maryland I will be seeing you all in Philly in the fall 🙂

I actually got accepted to both schools... but ultimately decided to come to TJU instead.

In all honesty, I wasn't impressed by Maryland at all... but that is just personal opinion...

I have a 3.45 GPA and 95 comp PCAT, plus 3 years pharmacy experience. No degree though, I have taken all of my pre-reqs at a CC (One of the top in the nation though. My classes are harder than a lot of 4yr universities).

I didn't know they ranked community colleges....

..either way, your PCAT justifies your GPA, congrats!

What did you not like about Maryland? I already love Jefferson, but I'm interviewing with Maryland to see how I like it there. Got anything compelling enough to tell me so I can save a trip? :d

Yeah, I'm honestly interested in hearing what you have to say too.

I love the enthusiam of the students and the faculty, I really like the emphasis on clinical work, I like the option of the Shady Grove campus and that all the lectures are online (I work better that way).

I mean, I like Jefferson's program too and I know that I could do well there. I really like the whole "united health care" thing they have going and the work you do with other healthcare students. I just really really really really would rather not live in the city. Like, to the point where I am afraid I would be miserable. Of course if I don't get into Maryland I know I could make it work.

🙁 Got my rejection letter today...
They're sending out rejection letters already? 😱

I thought they'd at least waitlist you and then reject you just before classes start but I guess they have enough applicants that they don't need to go through that.

In terms of the city, I actually have to say, I feel safer here in Center City than I did walking from my hotel to the Baltimore campus.

When I interviewed there, I felt the faculty and the students who interviewed me were very cold and unwelcoming. But like I said earlier, that was just my own perception of it.

Given, I was enticed by the idea of not having to go to class... it wasn't enough to make me attend the school.

I know I made my right choice for coming here. I wish you guys the best and hope that you get accepted to the school(s) of your choice.

Wow, you're situation is exactly the same as mine. I got my letter from TJU saying they got my deposit and reserved my seat. However, the day I sent it out, I got an e-mail from Maryland saying to come on down for an interview. So, like you, if I don't get into Maryland, TJU it is.

Interview was 1/9/09
Accepted on 1/20/09

Ohio State University: interviewed 1/31/09
Midwestern CCP: interviewed on 1/21/09
University of Kentucky: waiting to hear
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville: waiting to hear
University of Illinois Chicago: waiting to hear
Chicago State University: waiting to hear

I wish Illinois state schools would review files and schedule interviews sooner than march.

I just found out a few dyas ago that I was also waitlisted to Jeff. I was lucky that I went home because the letter had to be sent within 15 days to get on the list and I just read it on the 29th. However, I also interviewed with Maryland and it is my dream school so i hope I get a chance to go there instead. I was really unimpressed with the city, however. All of the buildings have this red brick scheme going on and although it makes all of the buildings look nice, it also makes everything look monotonous. It just doesn;t have that charm that philly has with the unique styling of each building and the quality of the bars and nightlife.

anyone interviewing on the 20th of this month?

those of you who were out-of-state where did you stay...what hotel would you recommend?

oh and was the writing piece was in a group?

i m nervous 🙁

has anyone else from the 2/7 interview heard back? i just got my acceptance email today.

😀

looks like i'm moving to philly this fall!

Hey, there are lots of hotels to stay at in center city although they can be a little pricey. There is a Holiday Inn on 13th and Walnut that is only a few blocks away from the building where you have to interview. It is probably the most convenient spot, I stayed there when I interviewed last year.

For the writing piece, you will have a half an hour on a general topic where you will sit in a room with other students.

And don't be nervous! Be polite and show interest in the school, you will be fine 🙂

Hey everyone! For those that were accepted, I got a letter in the mail a few days ago from Jefferson. It was an invitation to an "Accepted Students Reception" on 3/14. Anyone planning on going? I want to go but i dont know if its worth $400 + hotel!

-confused-

😳

I skipped it, I seem to be fine. I wouldn't go to it if it costs $400 + hotel to fly out.

You're gonna HAVE to go to orientation in august, though. Some of the class went home after that for the 2 weeks, others used that time to settle in and move. So skip the reception and save that money for orientation in august.

Awsome! Yeah im definitely going to be going to the one in August and probably just going to be staying there until school starts anyway. Thanks Confetti! 😀

does anyone know what is the expected wait before you hear from the adcom after your interview?

I interviewed on 2/7 and heard from them via email 2/17.

On that note, can I ask people for advice? Between MWU-CCP and Jefferson, which school would you attend?

I made pro/con lists for each school (yeah, I'm that kind of person) but I am having a really hard time deciding, and Jefferson needs my deposit by next Tuesday.:scared:

I don't think you can go wrong with either MWU-CCP or Jefferson. Maybe if you can list the pro's and con's of each school, we can maybe provide some feedback.

Which city did you like better? I'm not sure what each school offers that's unique to that school itself but all I know is that there is a huge difference between the sizes of the entering class and the difference in tuition is just about negligible.

well..isnt Jefferson unaccredited at this time? mwu-ccp is fully accredited

jefferson is not unaccredited, it is in pre-candidate status, which just means not yet fully accredited but soon.

personally I liked jefferson very much. Their professors are top notch, the location is in the heart of downtown Philadelphia, and the hospital system is nationally renowned. you cant go wrong with either school.
Jefferson is on its way to candidate status and students graduating from a school with candidate status (then becomes fully accredited) have the same rights and privileges as students from fully accredited schools and can sit for the board exams.

consider also how you felt on-campus at both schools. Did you like it? Jefferson is on the semester system while ccp is on a quarter system. I think quarters are much more interesting because you get to experience 3 different professors instead of only 2 in a one year course. The pace is more quick as well. In the end, you have to use your gut and critically analyze all the pros and cons to form your final decision. Your decision is hard because both schools are very good.

Screw jeff. Yeah they are a great school but they are not accredited and they have a high GPA to continue. They also don;t do dual degree programs which really sucks. They are essentially training pharmacists to either work in retail or in a hospital. With so many goddamn schools these days they are gonna have a real surplus in the retail market and hospital pay just sucks. You gotta learn to distinguish yourself and I am glad I am going to UMB cuz I have so many more options then what I would have had here. Only disadvantage that I see is that Baltimore sucks.

jjiva and waryman, you dumb dumbs need to learn your vocabulary. you sound stupid.

as for CCP vs. Jeff, in retrospect, I'd go to CCP for proximity to California and weather. In terms of academics, considering where our professors came from, pretend it's USP except in a nicer part of philly (if that's even possible).

Funny how you had no problem with this "not accredited" school and the lack of dual degree programs before you got into UMB. It's amazing how many people on SDN think they're suddenly above the schools that they were waitlisted or rejected from as soon as they receive their first acceptance. 👎

So far, I've been waitlisted, rejected, and accepted to programs during this application cycle and you won't find me bad mouthing the ones I've been rejected to or waitlisted at because obviously, I've wanted to go there or otherwise, I would have never applied there in the first place. What does that say about my judgement if I bad mouth them now?

Ugh, dude. Stop being a first class douchebag. I am also going to UMB instead of Jeff but frankly, you embarrass me. Thank god we're going to different campuses.

I really did like Jefferson a lot, but my love affair with Maryland goes back many years and could not be topped. Congratulations and best of luck to everyone who is heading to Philly this fall 🙂

Maybe Jefferson noticed the same last year too because he didn't get in last year either. I feel sorry for those who have to work in a group with him at UMB.

BTW, if you want to know what type of person waryman is, check out:

I read the thread before admin went in and censored the word he used to refer to African Americans.

hey confettiflyer,

is the weather in Philadelphia that bad? when i was at MWU for my interview (the day before I interviewed at Jeff), I arrived in Chicago a couple days earlier to visit with a friend and it was FREEZING. like, so cold i couldn't feel my face after standing outside for a couple minutes.

but I think I hit Philadelphia at a nice time.. it was so warm it almost felt like socal. =)

OOPS i thought you meant MWU out in glendale, haha i forgot CCP meant chicago college of pharm.

Philly weather...I got used to it, I still like to complain. The "coldest" days are pretty damn cold, but they're not unbearable so long as you're dressed correctly. That's what I hate...spending 10 minutes putting on **** vs. throwing on some jeans/shirt/flip flops and being able to run outside in so-cal.

I think I know what weekend you're talking about. But yeah, I don't know what it's like at MWU CCP, but it becomes a toss up I think. In terms of program alone, to me picking CCP is going to be obvious because of its fully accredited status vs. jefferson @ pre-candidate as of 2/09. When Jeff moves to candidate within the next 1-2 years, difference will be nil, THEN you go on strength/interesting nature of city.

Just don't be a ****** and attempt to bash a school that you got rejected then waitlisted from, it makes you look dumb.

Who gives a crap whether I bad mouth a school. The fact is UMB is a top 10 school with more diverse programs and will aloow you an edge over anyone from a non-accredited school with just a PharmD program. Since I am not married to any school I can say whatever I want. And you are right, now that I am accepted there I can just talk trash over anything now that it doesn's matter. UMB beats the ass off Jefferson, expecially with rotations at John's Hopkins. But I got rejected from UNC though you don;t see me bad mouthing that school.

a non-accredited school

lol, here you go again, sounding stupid. if you're gonna bad mouth a school (go ahead, i do it), at least get your terminology right, you f*cking ******.

Oh please bitch...you are really offended by this aren;t you. I am glad that you take the time to reply with such insults. people that go to SD are those that can't take the rigourous schedule of school and would just rather watch everything from their couch then learning to get up early in the morning.

Now, Shady Grove students are inferior to Baltimore students?

If you hate this "non-accredited" school so much, why did you apply two years in a row? I hope the UMB adcom's read SDN because not only are you pompous but you're a racist to boot. Just what we need, a racist pharmacist who thinks he's above everyone else.

Get a life.

haha hmmm, interviewed 1/6, worked at circuit city, went to temple. this should be easy. :meanie:

i mean clearly he has problems making an argument, he's comparing a new program to the #9 ranked in the country? well...duhh, my left foot could have made that argument. it's like throwing michael phelps in the pool with anybody else and saying the other person sucks and is slow. no **** sherlock. what a tool :laugh:

Waryman,

I just wanted to let you know that you are training to be a professional, and the type of language and attitude that you present here is totally inappropriate. You have to have realized that Pharmacy Admissions Committees do look at these blogs and therefore how you represent yourself on here is important. I am glad you got into Maryland, congrats, but you better hope they never look at this, because frankly, if it were me, I would never let someone like you into Pharmacy School. Good luck at Maryland, and I hope you adjust your attitude.

Dude...you have no idea why I made the decision to go to Shady Grove over Baltimore. Thanks for giving me just one extra reason to prefer the Rockville campus: You're not there!!!

I said it before and I'll say it again, first class douchebag.

-------

ETA: I had to admit it but, you're right man. With your kind of attitude I won't have to do ANYTHING, I'm sure you'll shoot yourself in the foot before long. I'm pretty sure Maryland doesn't suffer fools.

Assuming that you are who you think I am. This will do nothing for you or against me. So again, please bitch...please. What are you going to do? Send an email saying that somebody hurt your feelings and that he bashed your campus? oooooooooohhhhhhhhh...i'm shaking!!!!!!!!! You have no proof of anything...even if you did there's is nothing against me. I do not know who this pharmchix bitch is but my last name is most definitely not mercado...although you have my first name correct (as well as my pcat scores and undergrad which I previously posted.

Please keep the conversation civil by avoid using inappropriate language to insult each other and posting personal information on another member on this forum.

I have an interview here on 3/16. i have to fly from AZ, so i want to get in if i'm making the long trip. Can you guys tell me if you think i have good chances?
3.60 science gpa
3.94 non-science, 3.69 total.
My pcat was 73 composite (not that great i know)
I have 3 yrs pharmacy experience retail and hospital.
Also i think i have pretty good interview skills, so i'm not going to get in there and freeze up.

Anyone think i've got a shot?? Any help would be awesome.

Just found out today via e-mail that I was pulled off the waitlist and accepted! The problem is.. I already paid my $1,000 deposit to MWU-CCP and I'm really torn between the two schools. I knew that if I got into both schools that I would have a tough choice. Looks like I'm in the same situation as anonymoose410 now. I really liked both schools in many different ways. The only major drawback I see of CCP is the extremely cold weather (I'm from socal, so that would be kind of a shock). The only thing I'm concerned about Jefferson is the pre-candidate status of accreditation (although I realize their medical school is top-notch and nationally renowned... full-accreditation shouldn't be a problem but it is still a slight concern in any case). Also, I'd be throwing away the $1,000 I already spent towards tuition at Chicago.

Does anybody have any insight to help me along with my decision? I know ultimately it will come down to my personal preferences.. but any extra information that I didn't know might help me. I think the tuitions are pretty much the same. Thanks for your help. (please refrain from responding with "go to CCP because then I could take your spot"...)

Just got in to TJU!!! First acceptance so I'm pretty happy right now🙂
My interview was 2/21 so they were quick!
