I sent my LOI approximately one month after I had my secondary application in. Two weeks sounds good too b/c you are later in the semester. good luck!

Me too, Flop! They are meeting today and I was told that I would get either a call tomorrow and the letter would be sent out tomorrow! Hopefully we'll know something by this Friday.

Well, lets put it this way. The first time I applied I didn't get offered an interview until the middle of March, approximately one week after I sent in a LOI. This last time I applied I called up the admissions director and then sent in a LOI, I was offered an interview five days later. Recognize that I'm not saying the LOI got me an interview. But, it may have helped just enough to get me over that last hurdle...or maybe it was simply a crazy coincidence. All I know is that it can't hurt.

they met on 10/24 for my group...so that was only 2 weeks ago...not really sure how it works...maybe every 2 weeks...maybe every time they have enough candidates. they tell you at your interview the date the committee will meet on your group though.

Good luck on your interview! You will totally fall in love with this school. They will tell you exactly when the meeting to make a decision about you will be made so that you will know. If you have never been to Chicago before, try to schedule your interview near a weekend so that you can explore a bit - there is a bunch of stuff to do (plus the hotels are cheaper on the weekends). Let us all know!

Making matters worse - the hospital I work in has NO cell phone reception.. so I have to keep hiking outside to see if there are any messages. Did anybody get a special phone call (although I understand that the letter is the official communication, I have heard that some interviewers call people and give the news over the phone.)

I got a special phone call. It was actually my interviewer from the first time I applied; he had remembered my name and almost all my info (almost two years later!) and wanted to share the good news. From what the admissions office told me, most people don't get calls. So don't fret if you get a letter without a previous call!

No, don't feel like the call means anything. Honestly, I had emailed my interviewer about something else entirely and he decided to call me to respond. He even mentioned that they were not supposed to call until after letters had been received. Hopefully you'll get the good news in the mail!

Hi guys! It's great to feel the good vibe for Loyola coming out on SDN. I'm a 2nd year nontrad student here and couldn't be happier. If any of you have any questions about Loyola, feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to answer them.

Also, I wanted to confirm a few things posted in this thread:

1. What dopaminophile said about financial aid is pretty right on. The full loan amount may seem especially high, but I think this is because Loyola offers a pretty generous budget. Our financial aid advisor, Donna Sobie, is wonderful and very approachable. Call her if you have questions - I called probably 7 times when I was applying and she was always willing to help and never lost her patience with me.

2. Traditionally Loyola has given acceptances through January and taken about 33% of the class off the waitlist. I think this is changing. My class filled in late January and only 11% of the class was taken off the waitlist. This year's class filled in early January and waitlist movement was modest - I believe only about 10-15% of the class came off the waitlist. Loyola interviews until April, but if the past two years' experience holds true, you will be at a disadvantage if you interview late. If you interview in January and have the choice of an interview date, I would recommend taking the earliest date possible.

Congrats to everyone who has had interviews/acceptances and good luck to those waiting to hear back. The application process is brutal so hang in there!!

Reading this thread has made me nervous!! I'm pretty sure my application is complete....they were waiting on one LOR last thurs that was mailed earlier that week. Silly old PI moving to Texas.......Maybe if I call and express my interest I can get an early Jan interview.

Those of you who have been accepted/interviewed all sound like nice people.....I hope I get the opportunity to be considered among you! (or at least the chance to interview.....) I would rather be in Chicago than Iowa City.......

As far as the school goes, one of my best friends works in a lab there. She loves the school and facilities. I think she works under one if the people involved in the MD/PhD program and informed me they do not fill all of their slots each year. Random information for anyone who is interested.......

I'm all the way in California, and my postal carrier is a one-legged blind man that has a bad habit of eating the mail and sticking his granola bar into the mailbox instead of the mail. The letter only has a 62% chance of actually making it to me.

eh...chicago's no better...i remember a big scandal a few years back where they found several hundred THOUSAND letters in dumpsters that postal carriers were throwing out so they could be "done" with their routes and go home...

the kicker was.....wait for it.........

the dumpsters were directly behind the post office...the lazy *****s weren't even dumping the letters somewhere hidden...

the dumpsters were directly behind the post office...the lazy *****s weren't even dumping the letters somewhere hidden...

HAHAHAHA... well, the truth is - the carrier assigned to my route is out on workers comp. Apparently, the route is a "cushy" route, so his seniority (and Union) are preventing another carrier from bidding to fill the route SOOO... instead of having a carrier assigned to my route, on a daily basis, AFTER the other carriers finish their regularly assigned route, some poor shmuck gets assigned to pull overtime and run the mail on this route.

About 4 days a month, nobody is willing to do the overtime, so we just don't get the mail. The rest of the month, the mail comes after 5:00. At about 6:30, all the neighbors meet in the street and redistribute the mail to the correct addresses because the mail carrier just puts random stuff in every box without regard to the pesky numbers on the mailboxes. Grrr -

OK - need to think happy positive thoughts. Cider in Chicago.. Cider in Chicago.. Cider....

boston huh? i wonder if we interviewed on the same day. i think there was a girl at my interview who said she was from boston. i was kinda sick on my interview day, though, so i could be totally wrong.

and yes, i did forget about out of state mail taking longer. i live only about 15 miles from the school, so my letter came the day after it was postmarked...

For anyone waiting for their decision letter, I live in Chicago and didn't get mine until Friday. So, if you're still waiting, don't worry, it's coming. Hope that relieves some of the stress. I also wanted to say what's up to everyone going to Loyola next year! I'm so excited to meet all of you when school starts.
