Touro-NV Class of 2011!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
anyone have a guess at where the class size stands right now? I was thinking that maybe it is around 120/134...does that sound about right?

I wanted to find out when 2nd years at Touro NV have their last exams (when do classes end) relative to when most ppl take boards? When I was there I got the impression that classes go right up until boards. I may be wrong---but a 2nd year told me this---but i cant remember if it was a 2nd year at the TOuro CA or Touro NV interview.

Found out last Friday that I got accepted! Anyone else from the March 22 interview get accepted?

Let's not let this thread die!!! i feel like other schools have so much more pride!!!!! COME ON PPL! 🙂

Does anyone know how many spots are left in our class? Just an estimate? My friend decided to submit a secondary tomorrow, does he have a good chance?😎

He's UBER qualified

I don’t think it’s a lack of pride, we’ve just run out of things to talk about. Is anyone going on a vacation before school starts in August? My wife and I, along with some friends and family, are headed to Lake Powell for a week and a half in mid July. Should be fun. As for your friend it seems pretty late to submit a secondary. You should have them e-mail Roger and ask if it is worth submitting it.

that's true...good point. Ill let him know. I am def thinking about a sweet vacation...just dont know where to yet.🙂 I wonder where the class size is at right now though. He is pretty qualified with a 34 MCAT and a 3.6 and great research...hmmm

Those are good stats. Has your friend been accepted anywhere else? If he has his heart set on attending Touro he should call Roger and then overnight his secondary if there are still spots open. When I interviewed in mid March Roger told us that 90 out of 127 seats were filled. Interviews go into early May so there is still a chance for your friend.

Hi Mango,

I heard that there were about 12/13 seats left on April 5th. They interview until May, I think he said May 1st/7th. But they will be offering acceptances this week to those who interviewed last Thur & this week. Your friend might be interviewing for a waitlist spot, but those stats would be very high on the wait list. I'm guessing they will accept 2-3 each interview day now because it is almost full. He should fax his secondary like today & interview next week if possible. 🙂

we 2nd yrs have our last block exam on May 11th. and most people are taking boards at the end of june (June 26th for me). so, we have some time to prep.

and if anyone has any questions, feel free to either throw them out here, or PM stretch210, kubed or myself. :]

so what is everyone doing for housing?

so the buzz that I have been hearing is that since NV is in such a healthcare crisis, NV hospitals are WAITING for Touro students to come out and join the healthcare workforce. Does this mean that specializing and getting traditionally more difficult residencies will be a bit easier being a touro NV grad (if we want to practice in NV?)

When do we get access to TUNV.org? I'd like to look at the calendar that shows what topics we are covering in lectures etc. for the first semester. I want to review some biochem & anatomy, but I don't want to look at stuff I won't need etc. Thanks!

marianne, I don't believe you will get the schedule until this summer some time. As far as reviewing things let me put it this way...

Freedom (now) -------(medical school)------------> Your life sucks

That's all the biochem you need to consider at this point

Don't study, don't worry about studying, get your housing together, your loans arranged, and HAVE FUN! Believe me, you will not do anything now that will help you, so enjoy what time you have left. I could get almost every medical student in the country and 99% of them would tell you the same thing...as far as the 1%...don't worry about them😉.

words from the wise. take advantage and LOVE what free time and life you have now...b/c it all goes away next yr...go visit friends, travel, sleep in late, watch too much TV, do whatever it is you want to do, b/c it all ends once school starts!

I have an interview on Monday; they didn't interview anyone this week because of the Passover so hopefully there are still plenty of spots left.

Stringer, are u at Touro CA?

Not sure where they are in the "two week cycle of interview and then accept" but just because they did not interview people, that doesnt mean that they didn give some of those 10-12 spots away in acceptances, right? Because maybe they had interviewed ppl from before.

I'm finding out on Friday the 13th if I get in, can't wait!

Kahuna, how many spots were left when u interviewed? haha I hate to be SPOT MONITOR, 🙂 but I just want to see if my friend stands a chance

There were about 13 spots left as of April 5th... hopefully I'm gonna snag one. Your friend may have a shot at it.

I will be applying to Touro NV in 2 years, but I am curious to as what are the average stats of matriculating students? I've looked on their website but can't seem to find anything.

I may be withdrawing my acceptance to Touro. I had chalked up every school I applied to as a rejection but got some good news recently. If everything is how it appears I will be attending school somewhere else. Hopefully the wine club I was starting will still happen. If anyone would like to take over organizing that, I will forward all the interested people's email addresses. Hopefully my withdrawal means one of you gets in. Good Luck

Congratulations, Steiner. Gives hope to the rest of us with less-than-stellar GPA's who decided to make up for it by kicking ass on the MCAT. (Though my score isn't nearly as strong as yours.) And perhaps I can slide into your spot at Touro or at Western. I wouldn't mind that so much. 🙂

I got my Albany rejection letter today. It was two pages. That's new, in my book.

Albany over Henderson?

City or School?

City-Henderson would be preferable, but Albany offers some advantages, especially to an obsessed Yankee fan like myself (YES network, Manhattan 2 hour train ride away). It's closer to more culture and has four seasons which I like. It is older than dirt though and looks like it in some parts of town. The school is also old and looks it.

School-If I stay interested in the field I am interested in right now, it will be much easier to get into that field as a graduate from Albany than Touro. The age of the school means that there are plenty of alumni out there, where as from Touro you're a trailblazer-good for some things, but a disadvantage for others.

I'm sure there'll be times when I'll wonder if I made the right choice, but I think their would be more of those if I stayed in Vegas.

Good luck👍

Gotcha, like I have any room to talk, all the schools I applied to (all two of them) would've kept me right here in the silver state. My sister lived in Albany until last summer and I almost sent an application that way. But I agree with the specialty route being more difficult coming out of Touro, I'll use every contact I've got here to get great rotations and letters, but as far as actual residency programs I'm not sure how to best go about it. Good luck to ya.

Has Touro NV published the residency match list online anywhere? ALSO, I think someone should start a facebook Touro NV class of 2011 group 🙂

Their inaugural graduating class is 2008, I believe.
So no matchlist yet.

Hi Mango!

Actually a Touro NV class of 2011 facebook group has already been established. Go to groups and search "Touro 2011"...it should come up. 🙂

Hey guys, I'm in the 2010 class and I justed wanted to let you know that if any of you are thinking about buying instead of renting when you get here (its a great idea, there are a lot of really nice places near school), let me know and I can hook you up with my realtor. She specializes in the general area around school. I and some of my classmates had a hard time with a couple or realtors when we started looking, so let me know and I can get you a good one the first time! Just send me a private message if your interested!

and again, CONGRATS TO ALL ACCEPTED.

Where's our class spirit?? Other class threads have 7 pages, we only have 3! Maybe us Touro-NV super DO students have busy lives and no time for chat? Anyway, I live in Henderson, and if anyone is coming here to find housing, etc., and needs help, let me know. I'm going to have a little party for students the weekend before orientation to get to know people before the madness begins. I think we will have our own class forum at tu.edu etc. so I can announce it sometime in July. Only 10 weeks or so left before school. I'm excited. 🙂

We've got spirit!
Yes we do!
We've got spirit!
How about you?

I JUST GOT ACCEPTED!!!!!!!

Congratulations. :hardy: Guess you won't be needing that spot at COMP after all...

Has anyone bought their computer yet, and if so what did you get.

HEy all, looks like I will be in vegas with you. Just spoke with roger and i'm in!!! :luck:

Do we have a white coat ceremony?

Do we have a white coat ceremony?

We must have one, right?
I'd hate to think that we don't.
If we don't, we'll throw an impromptu White Coat Ceremony at the Palms. 🙂

Congrats StringerBell!

I'll be seeing you there as well. And yes, I'm pretty sure we get a white coat ceremony ~ I have a friend who's there and I saw pics from her white coat ceremony. But just to be absolutely certain, it's always wise to hear it straight from Roger. 🙂

I'M SO EXCITED FOR TOURO!
who's with me? 😎

Hey Rwilky...

Please check out this thread:

It's a list of who has been waitlisted, broken down by school.
If you could list the date you were waitlisted, plus the date you found out you were accepted, that would help some people get a gauge of what waitlist movement is occurring. Always good for us SDN'ers to help each other, right? 👍

Congrats on the acceptance!

Funny thing is, I've been wearing the short white coat for years now. Just because of dress code at my hospital though. (I've been working as a cardiology tech.) It'll be good to don one, officially.

I'M SO EXCITED FOR TOURO!
who's with me? 😎

I'm certainly very excited! Just ask Roger Corbman. I wonder if he's still laughing about the way I reacted over the phone. 🙂

I hope so too. I tried my first one on while interviewing at KCOM it was a beautiful thing. Anyhow, the school is closed until Monday. I don't think it is important enough that I am going to call roger on his cell. LOL

Anyone from previous classes living at Ventana Canyon / Remington Canyon? (Just down the street on American Pacific.) The distance from school is very attractive, and I really liked the apartments when I visited.

Apartmentratings.com has very bad things to say about it, but that's typical - people always take more time to write complaints than kudos. If someone has lived there/is currently living there, I'd appreciate some honest opinions!

In my opinion they are fairly nice apartments but some of the worst in the area. They are also the cheapest. I think a one bedroom will run you in the low 800's. While some of the nicest apartments within 5 min of school are Adobe Ranch, Timberlake, and Alegro. These will run you in the in the mid 800's to mid 900's depending on what deal you can get. (sometimes they have specials, you get get referal kickbacks, etc). Alegro is really nice on the outside but very small on the inside. Timberlake is fairly large on the inside but just ok on the outside. It is the only one out of the three that are not gated. I actually saw my friends car get jacked right outside of my window! (don't worry probably an isolated incidence, but still) Adobe Ranch Apartments have a really nice exterior and are large and really nice on the inside. Also the ladies at the front office are phenomenal! I thought they were just being overly nice to me when I was looking at their apartments to try to get me to rent, but they have stayed that way ever since I moved in. Also Adobe will pick your trash up for you every Tues and Thurs. Sometimes they will have days where they will babysit everyones children so the parents can have a "day off", they recently had a pamper you by the pool (which is really nice) brunch where they brought you mimosas, pastries, etc...bottom line is they take REALLY good care of their residents. It is tucked away in a nice location off of Kelso Dunes Ave and Stephanie (Kelso Dunes is a small road one block south of Warm Springs which is a much busier road) (Stephanie, Warm Springs and Sunset are the main commercial roads IMO...google it!) In my opinion Adobe Ranch is by far the best. And my rent works out to be only $890 with the deal I got ($1035-$100/month - $200 referal kickback - application fee - other fees). They told me not to tell anyone I got that good of a deal. But believe me, they love Touro students. If you do decide to rent from Adobe I also get $400 (I will give you half) if you mention my name which I would be glad to give you (and my number) if you private message me. Just to reassure you, I am not just writing this for the money. I wouldn't do that to my future colleagues (although I wouldn't mind a little something extra to play poker with 😎 😉 😀 ). What is written here is my honest opinion (afterall I live at Adobe Ranch). Hopefully I will see as many of you as possible next year!
