Hi. Does anyone know if the professors provide modules/notes for each class? Are students to rely on the text books or is it not necessary to buy the books. I know in a lot of other med schools the material is presented in a packet of info. Thankss

Just got accepted by Tourocom-NY!!! and i'm taking it 😀!!!

pretty relaxed interview. they ask you about yourself and what you think about those things, who knows about these more than you, right? 🙂 they asked me the basic of y osteo and y medicine. they also asked about how my major will contribute to me practicing osteopathic medicine. what i would do if i never got into medicine and there was one ethics question about about some druggie and a liver. be conversational but don't be too relaxed. school grounds is well...new york  . it's a nice urban setting i can really see myself in and the students and faculty were amazing and enthusiastic about the future of the school. and good luck on the 11th allisome

I interviewed at TOURONY Feb 12, recieved my acceptance letter on Feb 19. On Feb 12, Obed said 65/135 spots were taken with the $2000 acceptance deposits received. So there are spots, keep applying and interviewing and crossing fingers! But he also stated that throughout the interview process (through April) they are trying to give out acceptances to students with certain GPA, MCAT, clinical experience, etc, and then pulling off the waiting list. Although, they do perform blind interviews (the interviewer does not have access to your grades and transcripts prior to the interview), so there is room for acceptance if you are below whatever they are looking for.

Best of Luck everyone, look forward to seeing you in August.

FYI - Undergrad from The College of William and Mary 3.4
Graduate Masters in Physiology & Biophysics at Virginia Commonwealth Univ 3.9
MCAT B-10 P-9 V-8
Clinical Experience: >3000hrs within two Emergency Departments

Thank you thank you thank you. I hope to interview this season!
CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU! AND TO PENNY 21705 ALSO!

Does anyone know how many supplemental applications Touro-NY sends out?? I was just curious...thanks!!!

I saw that yesterday...some of those quotes are pretty bad. Though the layout of the website looks much better and it won't influence my decision to go there, I don't know if I really want my medical school to be proclaiming:

"I can't remember having so much fun!"

"Medical school is like a world full of excitement!"

"Giving quality care-hey that's my job!"

Talk about cheese 🙄

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know how long it takes to process sup apps for a interview invitation? And if so, does anyone know if they will be interviewing through april?

😀

A few weeks. Yes.

yes they will theorist. but i hate late interviews because then you will be competing with well qualified waitlisted students and those who are submitting the matriculation while you wait for an acceptance response, by then who knows how much space is left. i'm pulling out april or later. Touro Harlem is good enough for me 😀

if u are sending in your app theorist, hope you get what you are looking for 🙂

Great well good luck to us both then. :luck:

I just interviewed yesterday, and I asked Obed how many spots were filled. He said 83/135. So as long as you get that app in asap, you should be fine! They contacted me within a week of my file being complete, and I scheduled my interview for the very next week! Good luck! :luck:

yea it took a me a week also. The facilities in the school were new and looked great... sigh all i can do is wait to see their decision.

Hey guys,

Glad you liked the school and it was a pleasure meeting those of who with whom I spoke. We are really making huge strides in molding our school to what we think is best for ourselves as students and for Harlem. Big plus to you since we are taking care of what we see as the kinks in the operation. Our community involvement is also growing rapidly and we are really helping TouroCOM grow. I hope you also enter with a dedication (should you decide to attend) to uplift both the community and our school. It is far from a well oiled machine, but what fun is that? :meanie:

i also liked to school, obed esp, i really got a very positive vibe from him, my interview seemed to not go so smooth, i do wonder if i will be accepted, many of the students seem to have it a little easier on the interview, they seemed concerned that i am not a traditional student anymore(a bit older) i also like the fact its NY, i am from NY and NY is different then other parts of the country

many of the students seem to have it a little easier on the interview,

Honestly, it could be good that the grilled you. I know several students who have been grilled in interviews across the nation to end up accepted.

I'm absolutely certain that they just wanted you to answer how you thought you'd adjust to becoming a student again. I don't see any school, especially an osteopathic one, holding it against somebody for being non-trad.

Yeah, I definitely felt like I was grilled a bit too. And I know I probably came off so nervous in the beginning...even though I got a lot better after a few minutes. I really don't know what to think about it, but the more I do...the more it stresses me out!

Hopefully though, I'll be one of the ones that got grilled and gets accepted!

Anyone else interviewing on the 28th? 🙂

Anyone interviewing Wednesday, March 19?

hey i got into touro, just got my acceptance letter in the mail 😀!!!! Anyone else here back from 3/11 interview?

Yayyy congrats!!! I just got back from Acapulco to find my acceptance letter waiting in the mail as well!!! What a great way to top off what was already the best week of my life!! Looks like I might be coming to New York City!! :hardy:

hey congrats. I might see you there.🙂

After a difficult decision between TOURO and KCOM, I've finally decided that I will be at TOUROCOM next year. I just can't give up the opportunity to study medicine in NYC. Can't wait to start!!!

i'm thinking about switching to Nova instead but you're right, studying medicine in New York is a HUGE experience!!!!

What did you like better about Nova? I was supposed to interview there but didn't go after my acceptance at TOURO. I'm just curious. Also, as far as KCOM, I still go back and forth once in a while but I know in my heart of hearts I will end up at TOURO. If you can study medicine in NY I think you have a huge advantage.

For those on the WL hold tight! I will be giving up my spot to go elsewhere. Goodluck!

Sent in my deposit on Saturday! It felt so good to get that in!

Any new acceptances? Interview invites?! It's been kind of quiet in here lately!

i got into touro-nyc and was soo thrilled about it, because i have always wanted to live in nyc and i thought being in medical school in such an environment would be awesome. but then my husband got a job in san fran, with an option to transfer to the nyc office. since i got into touro-ca also - i had to really start thinking about why nyc... and i realized that the first 2 years of medical school are mostly book-studying.. and though living in nyc would be AWESOME, that shouldn't be my only factor.. since touro-nyc is such a new school, and i was on the fence about it from the beginning i gave up my nyc acceptance and will be at touro-ca.

i reallllly do hope that 3rd/4th year i will do rotations in nyc!!!!!! or live there at some point in my life 🙂

I'm giving up my spot at Touro, so good luck to those who are on the waitlist! :luck:

I may be jumping the gun here, I havent gotten an either-way response yet, but Im curious as to what the transportation is like in the neighborhood? If attending, I will be coming in from Queens every day. Are there parking spaces for drivers? Are the trains nearby/convenient? And is anyone familiar with the E or F lines? I drove in for the interview but that didnt really give me an every-day idea of what it would be like and Im not thrilled to pay $5 for the triboro each way.

And if it IS a rough commute, are the streams good enough for someone who may be missing a moderate number of lectures? (im not looking to slack here, but it may become a fact of life. Im gonna be in Queens for at least the next 2 years) On that note, do days usually begin at 8AM or 9AM, and are the labs pre or post lunch break?

I know, its a dense post, but any help is appreciated. Thanks 🙂

The commute from Queens is completely doable. I live in Queens and I used the subway to get to my interview, it took me less than 30 min. From what I remember I took the E train and then connected to the A train (I think, or the C). It was just one transfer. Look it up on hopstop.com

I wouldn't recommend driving, there isn't a ton of parking around the school and the triboro will get really expensive quickly.

There are stops on 125th Street a block and a half west of the school (A,B,C,D) and a block and a half east of the school (2,3).

The streaming work fine and they're recorded so you can watch them again or later if you don't wake up on time.

Some labs are in the morning, some are in the afternoon, it depends on the class, but attendance is required for them.

There are quite a few kids in our class that commute in from Queens so I wouldn't be too worried.

Take the E to 7th ave or the F to Rockefeller and then hop on the B or D uptown. I forget which one is express, but I think it's the D 🙂 If I remember correctly, the train was about a block or so from the school.

Any new acceptances? Interview invites?! It's been kind of quiet in here lately!

I got an acceptance! I interviewed March 19.
I guess the interview didn't go as bad as I thought. I felt it was the worst interview ever...I was blabbing at times, couldn't think of the rights words, nervous and fidgety with my hands, a few awkward silent moments, and finished the interview early. I think without having a desk separating me and the interviewers made the experience nerve wrecking.

Now that it's over, I think the "interrogation" technique was part of the whole interview. So for those of you that will be interviewing, I'd like to reiterate that the interview probably won't be as bad as you think. A good tip is to take a moment to think of a good answer.

For those that are on the waitlist, I plan on giving up my spot if I get into Touro-CA (I live in NorCal). I have an interview next Monday. From what I understand, the interview is conducted simultaneously with other interviewees. Wish me luck!

Does Touro do acceptances via e-mail, phone call, or mail? How long did it take to hear after your interview?

You get an email first and then you get the acceptance through snail mail about a day or 2 after. Atleast that's how it happened for me...

So how long after the interview did you get the email?
