I got an interview invite yesterday also but these dates are SOO late. I will hear back from UMDNJSOM tonight and PCOM by thanksgiving so hopefully I won't have to spend even more money just to get on the waitlist. Good luck to everyone

Is there anyone who drove to their interview from long island? I am wondering how much time I should allot beyond google map's recommendation. And which ramp is the best to park in? Thanks!!
Why do you want to drive? Take LIRR and get off at Penn Station and then take A or C train ... from there its just 2 blocks away. Driving there to me is a headache since its really hard to find a parking in NYC and efffin traffic.. but its just me. However, if you still wanna drive leave atlease 1 hr - prolly more than that ... depending on where you live in LI

I'll have to agree. I left my place at 6 am but barely made it there by 8:30 am. Google map said it was an hour driving distance, but you never know what the traffic will be like when entering the city. It literally took me an hour just to get through the Lincoln Tunnel. I'm not sure how it is from LI, but I think public transportation is the way to go when you have the option.
So, I interviewed here on 11/17. I can't compare it to other interviews because this is my first, but I can say this, I felt like I was a murder suspect being interrogated without an attorney. I was interviewed by two women, they did not even attempt to get to know who I was as a person, they seemed very interested in trying to get me to buckle under their bad cop bad cop routine. The one question I thought was a great question, "what kind of doctor do you want to be?" I didn't even get a chance to answer because the other interviewer cut me off mid sentence because she was itching to say something. I know some first year students here and they told me that I got a really tough combination, so I am sure this is not the norm. If you get these two women, just make sure you stay calm and defend yourself properly cause they are out to get you.
Should I apply I took MCAT 2x 11-6-9 and then 11-9-8. I heard only the Bio score is looked at?
I dont want to waste $200
excellent overall app, with 3.55 gpa
"Wasting" $200 should be the least of your concerns and is a poor excuse to use to consider not applying to a school. If you have no interest in going there, don't apply. $200 pales in comparison to the amount of debt you are going to accumulate during the course of your med school education.

I got this as well at an earlier interview date. I spent the whole interview being attacked, mostly being asked science questions at a rapid fire pace. They were rude, disrespectful, and insulting to me. Everything they could turn into an interrogation, they did. It left me with a horrible view of the school. I'm not sure why they did this, its nothing in my file, because several other schools have had no trouble accepting me.

You mcat score of 28 is good enough to get in assuming everything else is fine.
They don't only look at the bio score; this is false. They may have done that for 1 year, if at all. however the data they were using to support that was very limited.
The correct statement should be: Touro is forgiving of a lower verbal score as long as the bio scores and physics scores are good; the same can be said of a low physics score with good bio and verbal scores.
When you interview (i know this is tough to do and usually not polite(?) to ask other people their scores) and everyone seems cool enough, ask them their MCAT scores and you will see a pattern on who they interview and when.

My advice is to be confident! If you are interested in Touro, submit your application. If granted an interview, you should be sooooo confident in yourself and your score that people will wonder if you got a 45. It all boils down to confidence....if you go in there second guessing yourself, they're going to wonder why they invited you in the first place. Be proud of you, your score, and your app.
just my two cents...

how common is this? being asked science questions in the interview rather than questions about our file?

I did not get this when I interviewed last year. My interview was not laid back, but all the questions were about me and then the usual DO school type questions.
I also did not have this kind of experience while interviewing at Touro. My questions were a bit uncommon, but I am a very nontraditional applicant, but most of the time was spent covering normal interview questions
I have heard of this tactic being used at other schools so as to test a candidate's response to stressful situations that they cannot get out of... so really it is not 'that' uncommon. I'm sorry you had to be the one to go through that.

From my own experience, my classmates, and from people that have interviewed this year, it is clear that there are a wide range of interview styles. Ironically, I met oybello the night before his interview and know who interviewed him. He got 2 tough cookies, no doubt about that. Other folks had very laid back interviews where the interviewers opened with "tell us about yourself" and the interviewee directed the entire interview. It's unfortunate that some people are subject to the good cop-bad cop routine(or in this case, the bad cop-bad cop routine), but its not uncommon and you have to be prepared for just about anything.
Answer everything honestly, and if you need some time to think about responding before doing so, then think! The worst thing you can do is spit out the first thing that comes to your head. Be honest, be true to yourself, be confident, show interest, and every interview should be in your own hands.
Hey, does Touro offer student discounted cell phone plans?

Still haven't gotten the secondary! I've called Esau (Esaw?) twice and he has not been in. I've left two messages and have not heard anything back yet. I was released way back on 10/6 and Touro-NY is the only school I haven't heard back from yet. I'm trilingual and hispanic and lived in SA for 10 years, so I feel like I would make a good addition to the roster. Plus, I've always wanted to live in NY. Stats are 3.34s/3.23c/25R. Good EC's, plus 800 hours working in the ED as a scribe.
What's the deal? Can I get an email that works? Do I have to hire DocEspana to infiltrate the admin office for me?

His name is ISSA and did you check your spam mail. I had several emails from this school end up in spam/junk mail.

I'm fairly certain that we got an email about a 25% off deal with AT&T. Not sure about Verizon, Sprint, others.

I have an interview scheduled here for December 7th! any tips? Parking? I am driving into the city the night before and plan to park near the school in the morning. Any tips on where to stay and how early to leave the hotel in order to get there on time with traffic? Any tips for the interview? I'm hearing some negative responses about the interview questions and their tactics. Thanks!
street parking will be a problem. you can park in a garage near school (2-3 minute walk) for $13-$15 for the entire day. if you want to find street parking, I suggest getting there before 7am.
So, apparently I didn't live up to their pressure attacks during the interview. Got wait listed today. I am impressed by how fast they responded to me though, I only interviewed here on 11/17. Anyway, congratulations to any of those who interviewed with me and got accepted. We were a very dynamic and friendly group and I hope to see you guys in the future.

Wtf...You got a wait listed letter? I've been waiting since my interview on 10/5. Nothing. I dunno if I've been accepted, wait-listed, or rejected. Emails get ignored. Can't find anyone to answer the phone at the office.
maybe you should e-mail the dean of students and CC the DOA or vice versa. I would wait until after thanksgiving to do so because everyone will probably be out of the office. mention how you have ben trying to get a hold of someone via phone and e-mail but to no avail. also mention that you interviewed on 10/5 and a lot of people who interviewed even over a month after you got a response. maybe yours got lost in the mail or something; I wouldn't get touro the benefit of the doubt.

I've tried to email the DOA and the dean of students before and received no reply. I can try again. The lack of organization is actually scary to be honest.
esp for a school that has been doing this for 6 years. they have a new admissions dept, new bursar dept, new adcom members...but even then after 6 years it shouldn't be this sloppy.
be careful, you fall in love with mostly with a school's potential so you decide to overlook certain things; potential is great if you are applying a few years from now, but not now.

I'm trying to believe there is some method to their madness, but its hard. Some people that I interviewed with on 10/5 found out 10/27. Another found out 11/14. I'm not naive enough to believe an interview invite ensures an acceptance, but I thought I'd hear back from them in a reasonable amount of time, even if it was wait-listed or rejection. After 7 weeks, can they really continue to tell me, "we had a lot of jewish holidays in october" or "all the deans have been out of the office". Obviously they've found the time to make quick decisions on the dozens that have interviewed after me.
oybello is the first person on here to even mention getting a waitlisted letter. it just seems odd to me.
like i mentioned earlier, go down there if you are local and start crackin' skulls (by which i mean talk to the DOA or someone in admissions). it's a shame if it has to come down to that.

Yeah told me to talk to issa too. when i spoke with him, he told me mr joseph perez (the DOA) is the only one that discuss the matter w/ me. Of course he wasnt there. I was able to speak w/ him once, and i was brushed off w/ the holiday/deans out of office excuses
i also interviewed 11/17 and got a waitlisted letter. does anyone know how their waitlist process works?
Does the letter indicate if your "high", "medium" or "low" waitlisted?
I am literally waving a hundred dollar bill in their faces to look at my application, and they won't get back to me with a simple phone call or email. Le sigh.

Last year they sent you a rank in June. As soon as Obed was no longer in charge, the emails/communication stopped.

Which one were you, I was the guy who could not believe I just got smoked like a turkey leg, lol 🙂 and BossDoc, i don't know what to tell you man, I interviewed here on the 17th and the letter went out on the 18th. I don't know why you haven't heard back, but I would not stop trying to communicate
From the letter that I got, it just said you have been wait listed, no rank. I think they will wait till there is enough people on the waitlist or when they are done interviewing before they rank, that only makes sense. I really liked this school though, and would love to go here, but I can't dwell on this, I got to prepare for my next interview 🙂 Good luck allDoes the letter indicate if your "high", "medium" or "low" waitlisted?
Interviewed this weekawesome school. Sounds like they've been putting a lot of emphasis on recruiting very competent pre-clinical instructors and hold them accountable to teaching well. They stated that it's their goal to have their students performing well on the boards, and eventually be one of the top schools on board performance. The 97% pass COMLEX pass rate for 2011 shows that their efforts have been working.
Also, stumbled upon a great post by DocEspana that discusses the clinical rotations. Definitely helpful for anyone that's considering Touro: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=11012330#post11012330
Great Information. On the net is Touro's community person yelling at their students. Someone recorded it. See the link; http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...G2z6E6&usg=AFQjCNEuxPo3L6xxJr_9hQqLNukiO7B4mg

I'm preparing for my next interview but that doesn't mean I'm just going to let this go. Squeaky wheel gets the grease sometimes. I'll keep trying.

Doesn't surprise me. During my interview, when we met with the guy in charge of helping professors with their lectures, he was very rude to the IT guy and threw his wallet at his assistant and yelled "get me a twix". Not very promising if they don't mind doing that in front of perspective students.

I was too lazy to find the original post, but just in case anyone hasn't corrected this.. the COMLEX pass rate of 97% was only for people who took it up to June 24th. That pass rate does not include people who took it afterward (and there were quite a few people who took it in July). Last I heard (I'm a third year), the pass rate is now somewhere around 89%. I don't think the administration has ever made an official announcement, and I doubt they will, lol.

So just to be clear here - no one knows what the official first time pass rate is for the latest class? This is frustrating. Any suggestions on how we can find out?
Does the letter indicate if your "high", "medium" or "low" waitlisted?
it didnt indicate any type of rank- DOA said that the rank depends on how early you get waitlisted and that they take 40% of that list. so the earlier you get wl the better im assuming

im was the grl from cali! did you call the admissions office to see where u were on the wl? i think we will have a rank soon
