I am an incoming veterinary student to Ohio. I didn’t get accepted in CSU but don’t want to wait to reapply so I am starting at OSU. However my husband will be transferring into the Colorado National guard and will be stationed there. Fingers crossed my grades remain well, would I be able to try and open a case to transfer to CSU?

they put it at the very bottom, but generally you can’t transfer unless a seat opens up. It’s pretty common that each class loses some students during/at the end of first year though.

Thank you. Let’s say there is a seat that opens up, however I’m worried about the chance of even getting it. Would military be a compelling case to them?

I would definitely check with Colorado on this. TOSUs curriculum is unique in the sense that it probably won’t align with CSUs in some areas. This could potentially mean that you would have to repeat a few classes/semester if you were to transfer.

CSU just changed their curriculum for the class of 2030, so be aware that you might have to repeat a year in order to matriculate, and that means you would be in the class of 2030 (which also means you would not be able to take out GradPLUS loans after June 2029, so funding for your final year will have to be sought elsewhere)

Is it possible for your husband to transfer to the Ohio NG instead? I think that would be a safer/easier bet than trying to transfer veterinary schools, since so few seats are available, so even with a valid reason it would be hard to have everything work out. Plus, the distance wouldn't be a (new?) factor for y'all moving forward.

Most units are happy to get more members. Even if your husband's MOS/AFSC isn't available, there are many opportunities to crosstrain. Might be worthwhile because national guard benefits of Ohio are pretty sweet, and could help fund your vet school as well.
