Tufts c/o 2017 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Had my interview today too - they're not kidding about it being low stress. Great conversation, everyone was really friendly and helpful. Good luck to everyone else out there! 😀

Agreed! I was worried about nothing--it was so laidback, and I loved everything about it! The students were really helpful. 🙂

Probably should have thought to ask the Admissions folks this, but does anyone know how/when they contact you about acceptance/denial after your interview? For some reason I thought I heard 2 weeks via snail mail, but not sure if that's true! Would be nice if by any chance it were sooner and/or via phone call 😛

My interviewers weren't 100% positive but they said at least a week after the last day (the 6th) via snail mail, so 2 weeks is about right. I'm hoping they're right and/or we know sooner! 😉

not sure if its the same this year, but last year we got an email to view our decision letter on the portal, i think (and the actual letter was mailed out the same day).

Now I get to panic every time my phone buzzes...

Hey current students! I have a quick question for campus tours these next few days... based on the weather there lately, would it be a good idea to change out of formal interview attire (after my interview) for the campus tour (which I've gotten the impression is at least partially outdoors)? Sorry, I know this question has been asked before somewhere, but just wondering based on recent weather conditions. I was wondering how soggy/muddy it might be on the tour? I'm planning on wearing a pair of loafers, which I think can handle semi-firm ground conditions. Thanks for your input!

Hey there, I'd recommend changing, at the very least into comfy warm shoes and a thick coat! Whatever you will be most comfortable in though! Right now it's 25 degrees here and lightly snowing! The ground is not too wet but might be more so tomorrow if it keeps snowing. A portion of the tour is outside though they will try to get you inside as quickly as possible. 🙂

Hi! I have my interview on Tuesday (super excited/nervous). What do people usually change into? Casual clothes? Are leggings or nice jeans with a nice top acceptable?

Yes that's totally acceptable. Once your interview is over, you are welcome to change as you please. There is a little bit of snow on the ground here so I'd recommend boots, a nice sweater and coat. 🙂

Hey, so my interview is at the end of the day... does that mean i should wear my interview stuff all day? or could i wear a sweater and nice pants and change before my interview?

As long as you look relatively professional, I think it would be fine if you changed before your interview. Make sure you wear comfy walking shoes for your tours! I'm giving one in the afternoon and we'll be walking all over campus.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow and I hope I get to meet some of you!

Just got to westborough where I'm staying for the night! Good luck to everyone who's been interviewing! I'm starting to get nervous for tomorrow. For people who've already been is there a check in in the morning?? Or does it really just go straight into the faculty panel?

There is a table right in the Administrative Building which you go to to get your badge and schedule of events. Then you kind of chill out until the faculty panel starts.

Good luck!:luck::luck::luck:

How early is ok to arrive without being weird haha??

The Cafe in the student center opens at 7 AM. You are welcome to go on over there and grab a coffee or some breakfast if you want to just hang out on campus early. You are also welcome to get to the admissions building anytime tomorrow. I'm not sure it will be unlocked until around 7 AM though so that might be the earliest time to aim for.... 🙂

Thank you!!! I think (hope) it went well!

Now the waiting game has begun. I don't know if I can wait a full two weeks to hear back from them! After seeing the LA hospital and the SA hospital PLUS their amazing wildlife hospital, I'll be broken hearted if I don't get it. Tuft's is by far my first choice and the interview experience and getting to see all of the programs and facilities students are privileged enough to have there is one-of-a-kind.

This is all I'm going to be able to think about for the next two/three weeks. Gah.

Also, my interviewers today asked me if I had gotten in anywhere else and i answered honestly- St. George's and Edinburgh, but I feel like that might impact my admissions decision to Tufts. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Did you mention that Tufts was your number 1?

I feel like I did but honestly, I don't remember half of what I did or did not say in my interview because I stress-erased everything from my memory. I know for sure I talked about how Tufts was the first vet school I ever looked at and how I immediately knew that was where I wanted to go and love it and such ya know the usual.

I sent them both thank you emails and talked about how after the tours it was even more clear to me why tufts was my #1, so hopefully that makes it more clear that I'd drop everything for them?

Don't worry about it too much! Thank yous are always nice! Who was your pair just curious?

And so the wait begins. :scared:
It'll go quickly! Keep busy!!!

Ford told me that the interviewers/adcomm are having a meeting to discuss the applicants next Wed., and that decisions will likely go out a week later (he said we should know by March 1 at the latest). However, I still can't stop myself from constantly checking the online portal!!!

Also, does anyone know if any interviewees get rejected? It seems that everyone who interviews either gets accepted or waitlisted, but not rejected

According to last years thread it appears as though everyone was accepted or wait listed but I would imagine they reject a few people based on lack of communication skills.

I wish i knew how they decided...oh to be a fly on the wall in that room!

And as for rejections and what not, I believe something like 200 people interviewed. So, I would thing some people may get rejected even after interviewing. Class size will be about 100 and there's also any of those who may have deferred from last year who will have spots in the class of 2017.

Does Tufts let people defer for any reason? Or are people only able to defer for extenuating circumstances?

Here's from the website: Can I defer my enrollment at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine?

Admitted applicants may request a one-year deferral of their admission. Deferrals requests are reviewed by the Admissions Committee on a case by case basis and may be granted for reasons such as a unique employment opportunity, fellowship program, or family or medical emergency. Deferrals beyond one year are not allowed.

This conversation is giving me way too much hope. I've been under the assumption that I should begin looking for my rejection letter in the mail any day now.

I overheard them (Patty Finger and another person in some apparent position of adcom power) talking to another interviewee. I definitely heard them say that next Wednesday is the time they'll discuss everyone. I thought I heard them say that we'd know by a week later, but it's possible I misheard and that THEY'LL know a week later. Sometimes, my mind only hears what it wants to

In any case, past threads indicate we should certainly know by March 1st.

I also know that I overhead them say that acceptances will definitely be sent out via snail mail, but they're not sure about "waitlists or denies." OR DENIES is the key term, so I don't think they waitlist everyone. Tufts over-accepts applicants, so a deny rather than a slow-moving terminal waitlist position is kind of merciful.

Correct about the meeting. And usually they give the date of March 1st that you'll hear by. In previous years, you'll get an email to check the portal about your decision.

Best of luck, everyone!! It was great to meet some of you during the student lunch Q&A and look forward to meeting more of you next year 🙂

Really, only 200? I thought I read they were planning on interviewing 290. That brightens my day, even if I don't get in 🙂 Can I just say that it's beautiful there?? In my interview they talked about how the old building is haunted. Haha I got a kick out of it.

Today is the day the wonderful adcoms of Tufts meet to decide our fate! I haven't been able to focus on anything since my interview...

Hm, maybe 290 is more accurate... Couldn't remember the exact number, my apologies!

Yup, I'll be sitting it. Should be an interesting experience!

I want to know everything you know. I don't ever want any children, but I will have one just so that I can give you my first-born child in trade.

I second this. Are you in need of any limbs or kidneys? Cause I don't really need any of mine...
