Tufts c/o 2017 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks for the info Orca and Selisona. I just finished the second draft of my dinner essay. 66 words over and I doubt I'll go back to it...now for the other responses.

If anyone checks the SDN in the next 8 hours, did everyone follow the same space allowance and format as in the vet description of duties for duty descriptions in the employment/additional info section? Full-ish sentences too?

No problem. We're all in this together. 🙂

I sort of followed the format of my CV. That being said, I wrote the description in paragraph form but kept it concise.

I wrote in small paragraphs like I did on my VMCAS application.

Hey! There is no "approximately" near the short essay word limit numbers, does that mean we absolutely cannot go over? Or is a little okay, like for the PS essay?

I went over on some of the short essays. As long as you're not over by a ton you should be fine!

now the waiting begins... 😱

Ok, can we talk about the fact that last year, the first interview invites were sent out the Tuesday before Thanksgiving...aka SOON! 😱 Granted this was most likely just for a small subgroup, since the majority of interviews are February...

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is .....soon,

Did anyone else have issues with your eLOR's? I could have sworn my application said that both my electronic letters had been submitted (my third was paper), but when I went to the SA clinic I work at yesterday, the vet that wrote it said they emailed him to re-send it. It wasn't a big deal as he was happy to re-send it, I just thought it was odd.

My recs were all paper, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were having an issue with the online Embark program..there was an issue earlier on where it wouldn't let you submit the application.

oh man their email on interviews got me all excited for a minute there...haha

Me too! Once I saw "We received about 830 applications for the 99 seats..." I was like oh no here it comes!

Same! I was eating yogurt and proceeded to drop my full spoon on my shirt when I started reading the email.

You'll sometimes get some from them about programs going on now that you've applied or about their combined degrees too. Don't let those freak you out either.

So true. Those are cruel. "these are the reasons why you should consider doing our combined x, y, or z programs!" It's like... why not just include that in the acceptance package? Totally irrelevant for anyone who doesn't get accepted

Just got an email interview invite! It basically only gave the date (12/14) and said more details would follow.

Be on the lookout everyone! Good luck!

Congrats! You must be so happy!

Does anyone know if these went out on the same day last year or if they were spread out? Just wondering how much obsession I should invest into my in-box!

I was also invited for an interview on 12/14 (OOS)!

Does anyone who interviewed at Tufts in previous years remember the schedule for the day (i.e. what time the day starts and ends)? I'm trying to figure out which flights to book and that information would be really helpful.

Thank you!

It's an all day event. Believe it begins around 9 and ends after your interview. I had a later one because they extended the hours due to a snow storm. I think I interviewed at like 3:30 PM. If you interview earlier, pretty sure you are free to go after that point.

Actually, just found my schedule from that day because I had my vet app folder out to help someone with something earlier. Day starts at 9 with lunch from 12:15 to 1. After that it's tours and interviews. Of course that might have changed since that was the schedule in 2011.

I just got an invite as well! 12/14 OOS. The email said it should be about a 40 minute interview, and it sounds like they'll be focusing on clarifying questions from the application. Does anybody have any good resources for previous questions that interviewers have asked?

If you go to articles and interviews and then to the veterinary section, you will see a link to interview feedback. You'll find questions from pretty much every school there.

They really just talk about you and your application (it's open file, so both interviews have seen your app) and toss in an ethical question or two. It really felt like just a conversation when I did it.

Anyone know what that means? That the interview is focusing on clarifying questions from the application? Or why there's a much earlier interview date before the others?

Unless they've changed things, you get 2 interviewers. They try to match up at least 1 interviewer with your interests/past experiences. It really is conversational rather than a battery of questions (i.e. you have tremendous power over steering the interview wherever you want it to go so long as you're not awkward). Just be ready to have a good response to the "so tell me a little about yourself?" question, and make sure to put stuff in there that you want to expand on. I personally brought forth discussions about ethical dilemmas I encountered in my rescue work, so there was no need for interviewers to ask weird hypotheticals.

Congrats guys! I am OOS and got an interview on 12/14 too. They sent out invites so early! Does anyone know approximately how many OOS students get asked to interview?

Congratulations! When did you get your e-mail?

Does anyone know if Tufts is done sending out the Dec. 14 invites? I would think that they are, but I'm hoping I'm wrong 😛

Otherwise, back to waiting! :xf::luck:

They won't send out another batch of invites for a month or two. Last year I got mine around the beginning of January. Don't freak out if you didn't get one just yet! They interview lots of people in February.

is it a requirement to take 2 semesters of general chemistry with laboratories for BOTH semesters, or is it sufficient to take one full year of gen chem lecture and only 1 semester of gen chem lab???

It's my understanding that you need two labs, one for egen chem 1, and one for gen chem 2.

My undergrad school offers two semesters of gen chem lecture and only one combined semester lab of gen chem 1 and gen chem 2 material. I've applied to Tufts this cycle and so far I haven't had any problems. That being said, if your school offers two semesters of gen chem lab but you have only taken one, that might be a different story.

Best of luck to all those interviewing tomorrow!!! :luck:

I hope the interviews went well! I heard they have the best interview atmosphere...curious to hear how it went today 😀

Interviewees~~ I am dying to know how it went! I'm sure you all did very well. Any idea when you will hear a decision?👍

I interviewed on Friday. There were 2 campus tours, a financial aid info session, a dual degree/research info session, a faculty panel, and lunch with a student Q&A. I was nervous because I had an interview late in the day and had to sit through all that dwelling on it! But once I got into the interview it really was very informal/conversational and the interviewers were extremely friendly 🙂

I heard from someone that they send out decisions based on the interviews within ~a week, but that seems so short! Not sure if that's accurate...

Not sure how it was done last year but in past years, I think early Dec. interviews got theirs via snail mail. The others got them electronically followed by email. I believe the time frame for decisions is pretty accurate. Hope you enjoyed your visit! I was in anatomy lab and got to see some groups go through

they are sending out more interview invites? :scared:

I got GREAT news 😀 I assume you got the same sidvicious, congrats!! I couldn't believe they sent out the decisions so fast!

They sent an email today saying the decision would be updated on that Application Management System at 4pm, but then I also got my snail mail letter today.
