Tufts Cummings c/o 2015 applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those who have an interview on December 17th:

Does anyone know what we're supposed to be doing from 11:30-12:15? There isn't anything scheduled for that time on the email they sent out to us. Also, are we free to leave whenever we want?

11:30 is actually my interview time, so that's what I'll be doing then 🙂

Last year you were free to leave when you were done. Not many people left before around 2 or 3 though.

Don't forget the old saying... "never be first, never be last".

👍 I interviewed in Feb last year, and I left before the full day was over, but a good many of us did. Mostly because there was the *impending snowstorm of doom* headed that way, and everyone was scrambling to get early flights home. I definitely recommend staying for as long as possible. You get to talk to a lot of people, and they have good discussions during the day as well.

Just bumping this up to send some :luck::luck::luck: along to those interviewing today!

And best wishes to those still waiting to hear if they'll get one....I was notified in January. The waiting's the worst--but it's worth it. 😀

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum! I interviewed at Tufts yesterday. There were 48 people interviewed from all over. They had a faculty panel in the morning that gave some of the professors a chance to explain their research, how they got to where they were, etc. Then there was a financial aid info session, a video on Tufts, tours, an info session about dual/combined programs, and, of course, the interview. My interview lasted for about 45 min and was very conversational. We laughed a lot. I think this was the norm as I sat outside of the preceding person's interview and heard lots of laughter. No one seemed to have a bad interview experience from the people I spoke with.

At the financial aid info session someone asked about when the first round people would hear back-- the financial aid administrator said that she thought it would be in about 2 weeks. I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate because she seemed to be guessing.

Anyhow, I hope that's helpful. Feel free to ask more specific questions!

Thanks for the details! I'm still waiting to hear about my interview status, but it's nice to know that the interview is that relaxed!

I just got an email from Patty, who said that decision letters for those who interviewed on Dec. 17th will be mailed either today or tomorrow! Oh my god!!

Did everyone get an email about the immunization requirements?

I know I'm probably just looking for meaning where there isn't any, but still, I can't help but wonder if it's an indication for anything...

I got it too... I think all applicants did.

I was so excited when I saw the email and then so deflated when I realized it wasn't an invite!

Yeah, I got it too. Got my hopes up and everything.

Thanks for the info, anthrovet 😀 I'll feel more at ease if (WHEN...) I get an interview. If you don't mind my asking, what kind of questions did they ask you? Very personal stuff, vet-related stuff, school stuff?

Best of luck! I hope you get it in :luck::xf: Overall, it sounded like a good experience!

I left work early to check my mail, and there it is, a letter from Tufts starting with "Congratulations..." The letter is dated Dec 17. So they must have made the decision right after the interview. I really hoped they would have called us and spare me from the grueling weekend. Overwhelmingly happy now!

The interview was, as everybody else said, very conversational and relaxed. One of the professors actually started with a joke that I may want to sit in his chair. He then told me about the structure of the interview: they will tell me about their own background, then ask me some questions, and after that I can ask them questions. They asked me about my high GRE verbal score, why do I want to give up all the stuff I did before and become a vet, and whether I know how much a vet earn in the area. After the female professor asked the "why vet" question, she immediately apologized for asking such a question! That's how nice the interviewers are! We talked a lot about the differences between USA and China in terms of animals and vet (because I am a native Chinese). They also asked me about my college, because it is a Chinese college they have no idea about. The interview feels much shorter than it lasted, which is about 45 min.

Happy happy happy!!! Best wishes to all of you!

They did this last year - it goes to all the applicants, and doesn't mean anything.

I think my stomach did a backflip when I saw it though, even though I know it's too early for invites AND they come snail mail!

Congrats!

If you or others have questions about the program feel free to ask! Although admittedly there have been some changes in the curriculum in the last few years.

They asked me questions that were tailored to my situation. So for example, I'm finishing a PhD-- they asked me about my dissertation. They also asked me about my interests in vet med. It was all very laid back... don't worry.

Has anyone else who interviewed on Dec 17 not received a letter from Tufts yet? I emailed Patty on Tuesday when I realized that they were mailing letters out because I'm in Texas now. She said that they mailed the letters to our "home" addresses on Monday. It's Friday and I still haven't received mine. I'm just curious to see if anyone else is still waiting too.

Merry Christmas!

Believe it or not... I still haven't gotten anything! I think it got lost in the mail. 🙁

I registered after seeing this thread just to wish everyone luck - I was just accepted; I think they really liked everyone they interview in December.

Like everyone else has said, the interview was very relaxing. They match you up with people who have your same background. I was lucky enough to not ever be asked about grades or test scores, and we ended up talking about my specialty - avian cognition - the entire time. Tufts has two interviewers, and it really helps diffuse the tension as they'll often talk with each other.

I hope everyone here has luck as good as I did!

You should probably give them a call to check in, maybe on Monday after the new year?

Yeah, I'm gonna call on Monday to see if they can shed some light on the situation. 🙂 It just sucks not knowing yet!

If this year follows last year's interview invite dates... The rest of us should be stalking our mail boxes less than a week from now eek! Gl everyone!

:bang: Thank you for that reminder. Now I have even MORE to stress about!

Just found out that I was accepted! My letter got lost in the mail!!

That's awesome news, Anthrovet! Congrats! Of all letters to be lost in the mail ...

:highfive:Is Tufts your first choice, or are you waiting on others?

Anyway, CONGRATS!! 👍

Tufts is one of my top three-- it's a close tie between Cornell, Tufts, and UPenn. Thanks for all of the well wishes. I'm rooting for you guys too-- you should be hearing any day now about Feb interviews!

I kind of started doing this about two months ago...is that bad? 😀

Speaking of which.... he's here now!

Hey!
Did anyone get interview invites for February yet? just wondering...

Not that I know of. Last year they were sent around the 15th. In the meantime, keep your eyes on the interview invite thread...The wait is driving me nutty!

I hate sitting and waiting!!! J just want to know already…

...For those who are waiting (like me!) for ANY news I just got off the phone with Tufts admissions to follow up with a transcript. I asked about interview invitations and the status of them, and she informed me that they will be sent out over the next 3-5 business days! (starting today)

😱

Good luck everyone!

I believe the email we got in mid-November said that invitations for the December interview would be by email and invitations for the February interviews would be by snail mail...
