I know the words (I even used best men in my post that you quoted), but the phrase that I was referencing goes "always the bridesmaid but never the bride." Google it to see that I'm not crazy :laugh:

I meant that there's no similar phrase for us men, so that's the reason why I used bridesmaid even though I'm a guy. I am fully aware what groomsmen and best men are 😉

P.S. Haha, part 2 has broken into Page 3! Maybe there will be a Part 3 of this thread needed.
 
So...I'm not in yet but I'm trying to figure out what to do about housing...I almost want to go up BEFORE housing weekend to try and see what's up, so all the good apartments won't already be taken. I can't forsee a flood of grad students coming to UB as being good for the supply of quality apartments.

Even though downtown might be all the rage I don't think I'd really mind just living in a larger apartment elsewhere...seems like rents are a bit cheaper...plus I own a car anyways (and don't really go out so much that I think I'd *have* to live in downtown).

Maybe I'll just go up early and scope out downtown and everything then figure out what I want, and get an apartment then try to find a roommate during the housing days.

Oh well, first I gotta get accepted :laugh:

Who wants to be my roommie in a boring neighborhood in a nice apartment 😀 ? I'm probably going to sell my projector and get an lcd tv or something.

Then again maybe it's easier not to have a roommie, since last time my roommate moved in with his girlfriend and left me without an affordable place to live, lol. But from what I can tell it almosts costs the same whether you get a 2 bedroom or a 1 bedroom in Buffalo so it'd be nice to save some cash and have someone to talk to on occasion hmm...

I heard its really hard to even get a secondary from UCSF, but since you got an interview, your MCAT score can't be that bad.

Yea, a lot of med students have residents have told me that applying to med school is a crapshoot.
 
Yea I think it is a crapshoot... I'm like 100% sure they grab a stack of applications, throw them up in th air... and grab like crazy (kinda like that cash chamber). Whoever they grab, they offer interviews to. Hahaha
 
UB is different though, they told us they go through everything on your application and i totally believe it. I felt like they really knew my profile during the interview and made me feel really comfortable. I love UB🙂 and I'm not just saying it bc it's my school😀

Does anyone know when housing weekend is this year? I'm just wondering. I looked on the UBSOM website and haven't been able to find any information. I might try to go even though I haven't been accepted yet...I'm getting nervous about everything and don't want to find myself in a spot where I'm in but don't have anywhere to live.....or have a crappy living situation.

I read this and I honestly thought I had written it. We have had like the exact same experience with trying to get into med school. Except I'm still not in 🙁

whew-- i was about to reset my "waitlist clock"....i thought you were implying it would take three weeks to get cirrus in...because i am after cirrus somewhere--and watching the list closely!

Haha, thanks but it seems like I'm in for the wait. Guess friday before a long weekend isn't exactly admissions office hardcoreness day :laugh:

Nah...I wish I did have some inside information. My estimates are purely based upon the timing of last year's waitlist movement with an adjustment for this year's 2 week delay in finishing up their interviews. Assuming we are in the bottom segment of the top third (since we moved up from middle third and were not in the top thrid to begin with), with the rate things are moving we should here something within 2 weeks, if not alittle sooner🙂 It would be nice if we did hear back soon; I am in the process of selling my house in Texas and making arrangements to move in July...destination still up in the air! At any rate, have a happy long weekend everyone!

If Buffalo or my local state school here in town don't work out then my wife and I will move to Dallas/Ft Worth. But given how quickly the list has been moving I think Buffalo is the place for us! Have a great and safe weekend everyone!

question for those of you going to houing weekend....where will you be staying overnight (hotel? friends house?). i would like to book my hotel and plan in the next few days.

Yes that is me🙂 You have a great memory!Can you give me some hints as to who you are? The only person I know on here that interviewed with us that day is UCSDSkippy. Would be nice to put a face to your screen name🙂 I applied so far away from home to the New York schools because most of my family that are in North American live in Toronto (1.5 hours north of Buffalo). I really enjoyed meeting everyone that day. Judging by the friendliness of the applicants on interview day and on here the entering class will definitely be a supportive and easy going bunch, making this difficult road alot more fun.

Well I dunno if this description helps but we talked briefly about winter weather in New York while on the tour walking from the science building to the library, and again later on in the student lounge waiting for our interviews. Also, I'm from around NYC.

...Also I agree you seemed really nice when I met you and everyone else on this UB thread seems totally friendly and supportive. Hopefully we both get off the list. It really seems like 2011 is going to be a great class!

hey guys, i couldn't pay my deposit also weeks ago via the internet. It's not a weekend thing. the thing is Buffalo is really really slow of REGISTERING us on their computers. I suggest rush delivering it to the school cause that's what I did. i tried paying via internet 5 times, it doesn't work. Also, the sooner you get that in, the sooner you'll become an official student and get your financial aid papers processed. This is imperative for all of us. I got my deposit processed a week ago to finalize the acceptance; however, the financial aid office STILL DOES NOT recognize me as a student; the transaction hasn't even made it to the financial aid office yet. Anyway, HAPPY A GREAT THREE-DAY WEEKEND AND KEEP THE GOOD NEWS ROLLING!!

Anyone interested in becoming housemates for fall? We can share a house but have our own rooms (each of us will pay a certain amount for our own room); it's really cheap and there'll be great camaraderie since we pretty much have the same schedule. Let me know! It's my first time going that far for school so any close knit of cool, supportive people would be ideal; i found a few places with rooms available in a house but am afraid i don't know people there and they are from different disciplines so not a lot of connections. It would be really isolating to live alone. Thanks guys.

So...on a stupid story note, yesterday I went out to central park to chill with my friends for my birthday, and then we were going to go get dinner.

Well, last week I decided to take up skateboarding...I dunno, quarter-life crisis or something (I blame my brother for talking about taking up skateboarding as the genesis of this idea). Umm, well long story short, I decided to bring my skateboard with my and now my knee is sprained (pads help with shock impacts but they don't really stop your legs from going directions knees don't go, lol).

See, now I have my sprained knee to distract me from thinking about the waitlist all the time :laugh: Although now I'm also stuck in my bed trying to heal up a bit over the long weekend.

I'll say something though...skateboarding is actually pretty fun...makes me wanna get back on the board the moment my knee is ok again...which might make me a *******, lol. But it definitely makes me feel less old, which my birthday definitely didn't help with.

hey chung, did you try this website using internet explorer instead of mozilla firefox? it didn't work for me with firefox, but it did with explorer (this happened to me before with other websites, so i thought i'd try it)

i used internet explorer. When you used firefox, what message did you get? The message told me to contact the graduate student recruitment service.
 
i got some network error message with firefox, the page didn't even come up...maybe it has to do with what chung said about them being slow registering people

Haha, I haven't tried snowboarding yet, and it was actually my birthday Sunday so you weren't belated =) My brother's the snowboarder in the family...I can just barely ski :laugh:
 
I love snowboarding, I bought a new board and everything forgetting that I would be hoping to get into med school. I so hope that I get off the waitlist so I can put it to good use haha.. Over hear in LA our snow season is only a few months.

I have a June bday... Cirrus, I hope we get some good bday presents hahahah (acceptances)
