Hey guys on the welcome page a pdf of our class stats are up! Its exciting seeing where everyone is from and knowing which people from which schools you can pin down as SDNers. So stinking excited for fall!
Kind of makes me wonder if there's a stigma to applying more than once, or if those who apply around 3 times or so just for the most part don't have what it takes. In other words, those who get accepted the first time get snapped up and those who have to apply more than once are generally not suited period/give up.Applicants Admitted on 1st Application: (96), 2nd (27), 3rd or more (10)
Well I really wouldn't be worried about the vet hours bit. 3,000 is way up there but I doubt they give more points based on more hours past a certain point ("This person has 10,000 hours? Much better than that lowly 1,000 hour person!") I mean really, if you're still around after 1,000 hours, you probably know what you're getting yourself into.My stats are actually better than the averages except for quant GPA and veterinary hours.
I, however, am sitting here trying to decide whether these stats should encourage me or discourage me. My stats are actually better than the averages except for quant GPA and veterinary hours.
Funny, because aside from last 45 hours, GRE quant/verbal and veterinary hours mine are all far below average. 😉 It really does go to show that it's the entire applicant, yeah?
Nah, not tryin for that, actually all I'm saying is don't get too fixated on stats. They're fun to look at and analyze for sure, but there are many people who didn't get in who have stats above what is there and obviously quite a few of us who did who are below (otherwise those wouldn't be the averages!).
UC Davis SVM is ranked #2 (tied with Colorado) for the top Vet Schools in America!!!!
Ah, I love UCD and all but ranking vet schools is ridiculously arbitrary and not really worth it. Also those rankings are way old, aren't they coming out with new ones soon?
Ok I'm just loitering but I'm a sucker for stats. I found this very surprising.

I can't believe there are 10 lab animal people! Word on the street is that our attending vet of campus vet services for UCD is very pleased 🙂
Wow, only one dairy person. I think that's me, but I'm really surprised that's such a low number!
Someone posted about the 5 colleges in SoCal. We've got two (Amherst and Mount Holyoke) representing from the 5 colleges in Mass!

Woohoo, that makes me pleased as well! I'll be president of the Lab Animal Medicine Club next year so make sure to come to the first meeting and introduce yourself! Our club is super tiny, so I'm really looking forward to more lab animal people 😀
If I'm not mistaken, that person just happens to already be in our class 😉

I wouldn't worry too much about those deadlines. They were definitely amended for our class as it took longer than expected to get us some pieces of information (such as ID numbers).

I am a non-resident but hoping to get residency after my first year. I am a little confused now about when I will need to show them my lease, new driver's license, etc., since I am not applying for this fall, but for next fall. That would be next summer, right?\
The Davis DMV can be either really bad or really good depending on when you go. I went on a really hot June day, on a Thursday (or some other work day) at about 2pm and there was a short (10min) wait. But there have been other times where there are no parking spots available, the line is out the door, and your wait is 2 hours. It's worth it to do a quick drive by first to see if it's crowded, and if it is then to come back some other time. And if you're really nice to the ladies, chat with them and ask about their nails, they'll be nice and tell some funny jokes and make you smile. 🙂
What's that, the simultaneous speed by 15 mph, honk, change lanes without signaling, and flip someone off isn't allowed in Davis? 😀 (I don't flip off people out of self-preservation, even when I really want to, and I use my turn signals, but I've learned to be a pretty aggressive driver to survive in D.C. rush hour.)
Hm, actually, I just looked up MD law, and it is NOT required here (guess I really remember my driver's ed, huh? 😳 ), but it IS required in VA. Guess it's just as well that I figured it was, since I drive in VA all the time.See there, you would already miss one question. Despite people driving like bats out of hell and flying across five lanes of traffic in under 5 seconds, you do not legally need to use a turn signal when changing lanes.😱 It is simply recommended.
