Hey everyone, I got an interview invite from UC Davis on Oct 18 and I've sent back a couple of e-mails trying to set up a date but there was no response. So I called the receptionist but she says that there are "no open interview days" at this time. Is anyone else having this problem? On their invite email to me, it said that their first interview date is Oct 22, which means they just started the interviews. If any of you are experiencing the same problem, could you post a response? Thanks so much.

There are a bunch of us with the same problem posting on the "official california applications (or something like that) thread." One of the other people on the thread called, and they said to email them the dates we can come. Someone else was told they were going to try to get us all in in November, and to email dates and they'll email us back at some point.

when were you complete at davis?

Yeah, I called and emailed. She said email her with dates and she'll get back to us...

I finished the 2ndary and sent in my recs three weeks ago. Were you guys waiting longer than that? Thanks!

As a first year at UCD all I can say is hang in there. This place is awesome, and although the admissions office isn't always the smoothest at arranging interviews, the students, opportunities and the new building are well worth the wait.

I submitted my AMCAS primary in late August as a California resident. Davis is one of my top picks and is close to my family. I've received secondaries from every place I've applied, even places that offer secondaries to only 30% of applicants. I am fairly competitive (33, 3.6) with strong activities/research. I interviewed at Dartmouth MD/PHD.

But Davis rejected me pre-secondary on December 10th. When I called Davis, they said that I turned my primary app in too late and that I wasn't in the top 3k to get secondaries out of 5k applications. They said they were a lot more selective in their December readings because they already gave out too many secondaries. I don't feel like I got a fair shake; I don't expect to get in but my application is playing in the top 50% everywhere else. They don't offer an official appeal process. Any thoughts?

Was a 9/19/07 confirmed AMCAS application really the bottom of their stack?

Sorry to hear about that. Don't worry, my AMCAS was verified in JUNE and I was rejected pre-secondary from UCSD, which is my alma mater, yet I've been accepted at 2 schools, one of which is a UC. I say this because I've learned that this process does not make any clear sense. People think good scores and ECs should give you a fair shot at great schools, which in a perfect world, they would, but with the # of applicants, it is not that way. I know you can't help but take it personally, which I did too, but it obviously has nothing to do with the quality of your application, which seems to be great.

Also, I have found that applying early, in my opinion, is the #1 most important thing in this process. Regardless of your scores, it is the difference between standing out among 200-300 applications (with tons of available spots for secondaries/interviews/acceptance) and standing out among 3,000-6,000 applications (with much fewer available spots for S/I/A). That makes a huge difference, and it sounds like this is what happened to you.

Don't get your hopes down, and just be thankful for your other interviews, which are also at really great schools! Good luck with the rest of the process!

I JUUUUST received notice today of interview invitation to UC Davis. While UC Davis is definitely one of my top choices, I wonder what my chances are given such a late interview date?

How long does UC Davis keep interviewing? When do they come out with their final decisions?

when i interviewed at the end of january, i think they had filled just under half of their class so it's definitely worth going. they said they'd get back to us in about 8 weeks.

Thanks! I was definitely planning on going, but I just wanted to know if I was interviewing for a waitlist spot or what. This is encouraging though. YAY, Davis!

I got an invitation in mid-March for an inteview in early-April. I'm 2/3 through my first year at Davis.

Mid-April was when interviews stopped last year.

Well, one silver-lining of interviewing so late is that decisions come out in about 8-10 weeks. Lots of folks who interviewed early in the season (Oct/Nov) didn't hear back until March/April. Ugh...

But keep the faith. I didn't get the nod until early June for a mid-July start. I know of about five people in my class who heard after that.

hey — does anyone know the interview schedule & when the interview day ends? will i definitely have to stay until 5 p.m.? thanks!

No, it won't be 5. Some people are done by 2 if you had all morning interviews, which I think most people did.

the invitation says interview day starts at 7:30am with breakfast and end no later than 4pm.

weird, mine says starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. ... nothing about 7:30 a.m. here

When I interviewed at UC Davis, they split up the applicants into two groups. One stayed at the Heath Education Building, and the other group took a walk over to the Psychiatry Building (my group). My start time was at 8 a.m., and a light breakfast was served (pastries and coffee). The start-time and breakfast/no-breakfast discrepancies might be because you two are in separate groups. Anyway, congrats on the UC Davis interview. I really enjoyed it there. The new campus is simply orgasmic. :luck:

PS. Though they give a pretty ridiculous end-time, like 5pm, I was out of there by 2:30-3pm.

can anyone recommend places to stay (inexpensive hotels) near the med campus within walkable distance to the interview? i could not find the information from the school website. thanks.

The "Courtyard" is definitely walking distance to campus, maybe a 3-5 min walk.

i called uc davis, and they told me they have only gone through and reviewed the completed applications for Nov. that means there's still december, jan., and feb. applications they need to review....

Also, mention when you make your reservation that you are staying for the sake of a med school interview at UCD and you get a discount rate. I think it worked out to be something like $70 (though this was last year).

I interviewed in March at Davis and it's where I'm a med student now. There are still spaces and they are still giving out acceptances.
