UC Davis new evaulation

👍👍👍👍👍

I'm pretty convinced that my SAT scores were pretty much the only reason I got into my undergrad university... and found the GRE pretty similarly reasonable, too. I like the idea of the PPI, just wish it was school administered instead of yet something else we'll have to pay for during the application.

I have issues with standardized tests in general. I think the GRE and SAT have some merit to them, I just hate how much importance can be placed on them. I don't believe that they are a true representation of aptitude or intelligence, but I can understand their use in application processes.

I've heard that our cardio respiratory block first thing next semester will probably squash even the most optimistic of us.

Not sure how the information will be packaged in the new curriculum, but Respiratory Physiology was my very favorite class of first year. We just had one giant final at the end of the course that determined 100% of our grade, and I got an A+ on it 😍

Cardio is really scary, but as long as you REALLY stay up on the material and make sure you understand it every single day, you should be okay.

Just make sure you hit the ground running. There will probably be no "settling in" time at the start of next year for you guys, so make sure you gear up at the end of summer break.

Cool story, bro. 🙄

I think it's more like, don't make people having a hard time feel bad about themselves for not feeling as happy clappy as you. Don't pressure people to feel a way different than what they are feeling. Don't prance around talking about positive attitudes. This is def not directed at anyone in particular, but happens a lot in vet school (and the people that did it to me first year had a way harder time with second year than I did, so go figure).

The changes discussed in this thread are definitely official. UC Davis has endorsed them on the admissions website.

Whether or not the changes will be generally well received, I think they are most definitely long overdue. I did MMI for VMRCVM and got accepted. It really isn't all that bad. I promise. You may even find you like it. Good luck, applicants for the class of 2017! You'll be just fine!

Are they really going to the MMI (or MMPI) interview format? I interviewed at VMRCVM which utilizes MMPI, and I felt like they had no idea who I was as an applicant afterwards. I was accepted, but could not tell you why for the life of me. I can't specifically address the questions they asked because I signed a confidentiality agreement, but some of them were so random (nothing to do with vetmed). The principle behind the method is that the questions are supposed to address ideal qualities in a veterinarian, like compassion and problem solving, but you don't know what each question assesses as they ask you. I felt like interpreting a Rorshach inkblot would have been more effective.
That's my opinion anyway, and a lot of people disagree with me. A lot of people really enjoyed the process, but I felt like they didn't know who I was at all at the end of it.
