Congratulations to everyone who got an invite today! For those of you who got them, are you going to the interview workshop? Are we supposed to dress nicely for the workshop?
I'll be at the workshop. I'm so freakin excited I cried when I got the email today. Sheltergirl, do you work at a local shelter? I'm at PHS in San mateo.
Does anyone know how many OOSers were interviewed last year? I know from looking at admission statistics that 15 OOSers were accepted last year and 9 matriculated. But they don't say how many they interviewed. If anyone knows, I would much appreciate the information. Thanks!
I remember asking a first year this question last year when I interviewed, and she told me she thought 25-30 OOSers were invited to interview. I don't know how reliable of a number that is. Either way, congratulations!![]()
Do anyone know if there is anywhere to store a small suitcase during the interview? My friend will be dropping me off at Davis for my interview and then I am catching the bus from there to the airport. I just realized that I'll have to have my bag with me during that time. Thoughts?
Hang in there Catnapper (and other ISers waiting to hear)! The week is still young. We're all pulling for you!!
So it's looking like nobody here, apart from the interview invitees, has heard anything since Monday--is that right?😕
what an awesome school. i just visited, and... wow. their new teaching facilities are incredible!
I just called the admissions office, & the guy there said that the majority of emails regarding interview invites would be going out today & early next week...a grain of hope, maybe??

Sorry I'm coming to the thread late, but I'm a Davis student now and I drive from the east bay every day. Two points to consider:My next door neighbor here actually works in the Bay Area while living in Davis (so the reverse) and I know it is very taxing on her to have to do that.
I know that I found the Davis admissions process pretty... cold. Not outright hostile, just not as warm-and-fuzzy as, say, Wisconsin or Penn. I mean, the staff deal with thousands of wannabe vet students, so you can hardly blame them. But frankly, that was my only impression of the whole program, and because of that I was really leaning *against* going to Davis at the time of the interview orientation.
It is *so* not like that.
Sorry I'm coming to the thread late, but I'm a Davis student now and I drive from the east bay every day. Two points to consider:
The traffic Nyanko's neighbor is driving in, from Davis to east bay/SF in the morning and east bay/SF to Davis in the evening, is *horriffic*. But there's actually not much traffic in the opposite directions. It takes an hour each way, but it's a really consistent and predictable hour.
However... you don't want to commute from SF to Davis, Karazy. Traffic within SF is bad, and you'll either have to cross two bridges or fight your way along a crowded little highway around the top of San Pablo Bay. Just pop up a map on Google and look at the difference between SF to Davis and the east bay (e.g. Oakland) to Davis and you'll see what I mean. (Actually, do it during the morning or evening commute hours and flip on the "traffic" setting!)
I assume your reason for asking is that SF is a way cooler place to live than Davis, and not that you have strong personal reasons (e.g. spouse with job) to need to do it. My advice is to live in Davis and visit SF on the weekends if you just want the atmosphere. If you do have a spouse situation, then I'd suggest a compromise of living in the east bay instead of SF (and if you'd like specific advice in that case, feel free to PM me).
Can anyone speak to the UC Davis tracking? I don't have any real feel for it except a bit on how it impacts 4th year clinics. Does it have any impact before then? Also, I'm interested in public health, but all they seem to have is "individual." And they make no mention of this being a possible public health route, but talk about exotics, zoo, wildlife, etc. Does anyone have any experience for how this would work?
Thanks so much!
Tracking really only applies to your third and fourth years. The first two years are pretty much the same for everyone (though there are lots of electives). The tracks are really broad, and allow a lot of room for your own interests (small animal is the most restrictive track, and even that one still has 10 weeks of do-whatever-you-want elective time in the 4th year). Can anyone speak to the UC Davis tracking?
You're right, there's no public health track (though this might have to change if that whole veterinary public health funding act goes through). But if you think about it, public health is a really broad field, which you can approach from a food/production animal standpoint, a companion animal standpoint, or a wildlife/ecosystem standpoint. So you'd pick the track to suit the approach you're interested in, and do electives and externship rotations with a public health focus. (BTW intro Epidemiology is a required course for *everyone* the first quarter of first year.)VAgirl said:Also, I'm interested in public health, but all they seem to have is "individual."
to be quite honest i have no idea what davis is thinking. I talked to admissions twice. this morning the woman said they are mostly done sending invitations for interviews but there are a few left and this week they'll send out rejection via email. This afternoon i called to try to get them to tell me more but the guy was saying they sent out all invitations, rejections go out today and there is some sort of waiting list procedure for interviews.
i think they are stringing applicants along knowingly and that sucks. i have classes that i am only taking for davis. id like to know if can drop those suckers and have a fantabulous time for the rest of the year or bust my *** off at two schools trying to get everything completed so i can stay in cali.
anyways. good luck all!
those of you going to ohio, plan on seeing me there!
