please guide me on one doubt about upenn application requirements. They get recommendation letters thru' CAAPID and in application supplement material list, they are again asking to submit the same 3 recommendation letters.Do we have to submit same letters to upenn again(that we submitted to CAAPID also)or they are something different.
Thanks

Yes UCSF wants sealed LORs. And other things (NBDE,TOEFL) directly from issuing agencies. You can't send them even sealed one.

Has anyone received application complete notification yet from UCSF?

anyone received application complete status?

you wont recieve a notification.
you can mail / call Mary pham and she will confirm reciept of your application material.

giveher about a week to process everything.

Also, dont wait until the last week to send applications. It getssuper busy and things get mixed up..

Are you sure they don't accept NBDE and TOEFL scores provided by us in sealed envelops ????!!!! DID YOU CALL THEM ???!!! this is what the appl checklist says :

Original Official Document
document sent directly from the source (dental school, ADA, ECE, NBDE, TOEFL) to UCSF School of Dentistry - OR -
document provided to you by the source in a sealed envelope document provided to you by the source in a sealed envelope

Can any one confirm this please .

I think it needs to be sealed, but you can always call Ms. Mary Pham and ask her.She might say it is acceptable. Good luck!

It has to be sealed in cover. Including transcripts of your previous degree. Good part is you can send it by your self. Your university doesn't have to send it directly to UCSF.

I called her yesterday and she confirmed that my application is 'Complete'

Got Application Complete status and under review, all invites before sep 16th, acc to Ms Pham!!!!

Hi folks,

Has anybody sent a graduation certificate that certifies that BDS degree was conferred on the student on a specific date in the school's official sealed envelope. When I checked with Ms Mary Pham, she said that when UCSF refers to Official transcripts on their application checklist page, they are actually referring to the transcripts which not only report the scores and number of hours in different disciplines but also report that a BDS degree was conferred on the student on a specific date just like how a diploma certificate states. My official transcript from my dental school doesnot state anything about a BDS being conferred. It just states that the particular student passed the final year BDS exam on the specific date along with the grades and scores and hours . When I brought this to Ms Pham's attention she said that passing final year BDS exam doesnot mean that a degree was conferred. So she said the officlal transcripts from the dental school must also include something similar to the dental diploma which states that a BDS degree was conferred on that student. Since my officlal transcript doesnot include that, she asked me to request my school to issue a graduation certificate in a sealed envelope and that I should then mail it to UCSF. If those of you who received application completion status from UCSF could throw some light whether you sent anything like this to UCSF with your application, that would be helpful.

thanks

send your notarized copy of degree as well

send your notarized copy of degree as well
Hi toothfairyqueen. Is that what you sent to UCSF because when I checked with Ms Pham if they accept photocopies of diploma, she said that they donot accept any photocopies notarized here in the US. If applicants send any photocopy notarized in the US, she said they are discarded and go directly to the shredder. She accepts notarized copies only if they are notarized by the original dental school and in sealed envelopes of the dental school. Did you send a photocopy of your degree notarized by your school in the school's official sealed envelope ? If not how did you send documentation to UCSF that the BDS degree was conferred on you ? thanks

Degrees are not part of transcripts. Transcripts only contain credits for each subject and student score in the same, for a degree. We cannot dictate our graduation schools to chnage the way they make transcripts.

I sent sealed envelope of my transcripts + US notarized copy of BDS degree + notarized copy of internship certificate ( mandatory internship in degree)

When I called her, she didn't mention anything missing or inappropriate. I assume they accepted all the documents.

Can anybody tell me how many pages I should consider for writing the answers of essay questions. What is the average size of the answer. Please help me.
Do I get some answers from any kind person who already knows this matter. Or BombayBDS you know all my status, can you better tell me that. In some question I have something to write but in other questions like publication and research I have nothing to add. So exactly how many pages I should write if I write in point 12 format.

Thanks Dingash for the clarification. I don't know why Ms.Pham was a little conflicting about the application requirements.
As you suggested I'm going to also send US notarized copies of internship completion and diploma and follow up with her once she receives them.
Thanks to all who responded to my query.

hey friends..m new to sdn...i havent got the confirmation from university saying that my application is complete..but when i called Ms. Mary, she said my application is complete...??its been almost three weeks..but i havent received email from university..so when do they send email notification??

UCSF provides Nissin Kilgore typodont. Not the columbia typodont. They even provides bur and instruments. But you have choice of using your own burs and instruments.

It is better to send the same LORs you send to CAAPID. just to avoid any sort of confusion. UCSF might consider only 3 of your LORs. so send your best 3. and try to send from different mentors like your professors, Department chairs, previous dean, any practicing dentist etc.

Does anyone have any information from UCSF recently?

I sent out my application right before deadline and didn't hear anything from UCSF yet.

what's the normal waiting time? Thanks.

Is it a mail or email?

Even if you have submitted all the documents and score before the deadline, they should receive it in the office before the actual deadline date. Then they review it. It takes time. For example If you are the last person to apply then you might be evaluated in the last. But by 16th Sept everyone should hear about their reviewed application. UCSF receives around 400-500 application for IDP program. Thats a lot to review. so It takes time and if you do not hear by 16th then you might like to inquire about your application.

KrihDentist is right.
we have had 600 applications this year.
be patient.

you should call and ask Mary Pham if all the application material was recieved, althought, she generally contacts the applicant if something is missing.

Many thanks to BombayBDS, KrihDentist and Googlefreak!

600 applications!!! the same crazy number as UOP's !!!!
