Has anyone received the Dean’s merit scholarship? Or does that come out later?

got the "no decision has been made on your application and you are still under consideration" email : ) staying positive

Has anyone received an email confirming their acceptance for those of you who got the call yesterday?

Also, I was looking through my notes from my interview day and I wrote down that if you don't get a notification on Dec. 15, you are put on hold and you will hear back on Feb. 2021. Someone second this and confirm if I wrote that down correctly?

I got the emails at around 1 PM. If you use Gmail, they've been suffering outages lately.Lots of people on the Facebook Dental Admissions Group didn't get emails, whether it was an acceptance after the call or a waitlist. I think you should reach out to admissions to let them know. The email might have bounced back. On AADSAS, it says "offer made" for me but those waitlisted should say "waitlisted."

There are rumors that UCSF reduced their class size from 90 to 60. Any idea?
In the class of 2025 page on Facebook one of the current students clarified that it’s just 60 people accepted for now- the remaining 30 are TBD as there are more interview dates coming up.

I'm in the same fb group and I think a few other students recently clarified that the class size will be 60 from now on, the formal change just hasn't been communicated.

BTW can I PM you?

Oh wow! Guess I haven’t read the updated post. Sure, PM away

does anyone happen to know roughly how many acceptances have been awarded?? 88 to 60 class size is seriously scaring me

I'm not sure of an exact number but based on the FB group the class is not full.
In past years, they accepted ~60 on decision day for a class size of 90, so maybe they're doing the same ratio this year, so maybe ~40? Keep in mind there are still 4 interview dates left

So essentially the class of 2025 will be the first class to have 60 students? That’s wild af

EDIT: looks like I was wrong & UCSF really did decide to drop their class size down to 60! Absolutely wild.

Ain’t no way UCSF decides to drop their *official* class size from 90 to 60 without a formal announcement for this cycle (this may be the case for future cycles, but it’s highly unlikely and tbh unfair for those who applied in this current cycle because that’s important information to know beforehand).

Now if the concern is that they only gave out 60 acceptances on decision day: This is completely expected because no school hands out all available offers on decision day. Schools specifically save seats for people who interview *after* decision day because they know there are also many stellar candidates who interview late

I know it's hard to believe, I'm pretty shocked too. But this information came directly from a current UCSF student

I got a call yesterday from my interviewer to tell me that the class sizes will remain 60 and to factor that in my decision.

That is absolutely bonkers! Did they ever hint at this during the interview process/application cycle? I just think that is unfair for applicants who took into consideration the class size when submitting an application to UCSF, and taking away 1/3 of the seats is a pretty significant reduction. I’m honestly so curious as to why they (suddenly?) decided to cut their class size (but if I had to guess...maybe some faculty got cut as well?)

But I can see a smaller class size being a plus - if the # of faculty haven’t changed, then hopefully there’s a better faculty-student ratio. And you’ll definitely get to know your classmates more (which could be good or bad lol)

Did they give any sort of mention of the reduced class size prior to your acceptance? And is the new reduced class size swaying your decision at all?

(I’m genuinely curious what everyone’s thoughts are)

It does make the offer slightly more attractive but I'm waiting to see what the scholarship situation is. They are sending out scholarship awards on Monday I think.

I don’t recall them during the application process or interview ever saying they would reduce class size I’ve always wanted to go to UCSF but yes the smaller faculty-student ratio will help. But I feel bad for everyone else waiting.

Feel bad enough to give up your coveted seat 😉 lol jk

I wonder if the decrease in new acceptances this year has anything to do with deferred acceptances due to the pandemic?

Why did they reduce the class size to 60? Does anyone know?
HSDM class size is 35
UCONN class size is 40
Small size means low acceptation rate

This year, USCF applicants 2200, 60/2200 = 2.8 %

I feel like it has something to do with the new dental school thats opened in Cali don’t y’all think so?! Idk

Most likely has to do with COVID-19 and the school wanting to facilitate a learning environment that is safe and provides students with the same quality clinical experience.
