Hey, FENDERBIZ, I need to ask, what is that thing on your shoulder??? A rocket?
Hey, FENDERBIZ, I need to ask, what is that thing on your shoulder??? A rocket?
When I talked to Penny, she said they really only consider your first two choices and try to get you your first choice if it is possible.I received an interview today for the Jacksonville campus!!!!!!!!!! Gainesville was my first choice, but Jacksonville was my second. The drive is about the same for me either way, so I'm ecstatic!!!!
It seemed like I waited forever too, good luck, I'm sure you will get an invite. Penny just emailed me to say she got my reply for my interview (which of course was YES!). Hang in there!Congrats! You said today, Friday Apr. 2nd? Would you mind sharing your statistics? I'm still waiting.
aw come on, man. You don't recognize who that is?
OK, people, help me out. The whole point of this forum is to share your information with others. So everyone (except fenderibz) who is this a picture of? Someone must know!!!😎
McGiver?

Thanks! in fact, I got my acceptance letter from LECOM last Tuesday. However, the pharmacy that I work with ( I'm a Pharm. Tec.), doesn't recommend me to go to a private school. He went to a private school and now ends up paying 2000 dollars a month for student loan. He said it's not worth it. I don't know what I'm doing anymore.
Obviously, if you can get into UF and get (a) a better education and (b) pay less tuition, that is preferred...but if you don't get into UF...let's see...($100,000 / year) / (12 months) = ($8,333 / month before taxes) - (about 25% for taxes? = $2,083 for taxes) = ($6,250 / month after taxes) - ($2,000 for student loan) = ($4,250 / month AFTER taxes and AFTER student loan) I don't think there is a problem there, do you.
Also, if you pay $2,000 / month for the student loan, that is $24,000 per year. LECOM costs $23,000 / year, that is $92,000 total, even with interest, you should have it paid off in under 5 years.
Some private schools cost over $35,000 / year. Even at that price, it seems like an awesome deal to me.
However, you can take up to $33,000 a year in loans at UF, so I would imagine it is higher for Lecom (living expenses etc), I would also imagine that federal loans wouldn't cut it for private colleges if you come from a middle class family that cannot pay outright, so I would imagine some of it would be private loans which have higher interest rates, and could even include credit cards...
So while I do think $2000 a month is somewhat excessive, it could be rather high considering all types of loans used.
I went to the interview at LECOM on March 25th. They told me that the total cost (including housing, health insurance, transportation, tuition,...) would be about 44 000 a year. In addition, for every dollar we borrow from them now, we would have to pay back 3 dollars. I guess she meant if we pay mininum payments, we would end up paying 3 times more for interest. Therefore, after 4 years, and if I make minimun payments, I would end up paying almost 5 00 000 dollars. At this point, It sounds too much for me. What if I can't make it through 4 years? What do you guys think about it? Honestly, I need some advices, please.

It sounds like your mind is made, but you lack confidence in yourself (a huge problem of mine actually). Thanks a lot, guys. Pharmacy is the only thing that I actually love. I've been doing well in school; I also got 71 on the PCAT. If I dont' go to a pharmacy school this year, I'm sure that it will be the biggest regret of my life. However, If I go and can't make it through 4 years, I will be a trouble. I only make 9 dollars/hr working as a Tech. There's no way I can pay off that student loan. I wont change my major no matter what because it's the only profession that I actually like. what would you guys do if you're me?
I looked up your old posts. 3.9 GPA and 71 PCAT. Sounds like you will have no problem graduating. Also, I still think you will get into UF (in which case you will still owe a large pile of dough.)
This is important...GO FOR IT!!! Don't be intimidated. You can't live your life saying what if I get crippled my last year of pharmacy school...geez, worst case you can always go bankrupt and not pay the loans back.
I would be more concerned with getting killed in a car accident on the way to your interview at UF. Horriffic outcome, yes...but, let's face it, not too likely. You can't be too afraid to live your life. You EARNED a 3.9 GPA, you EARNED the right to be a Pharmacist (if you want to be.)
oh, when you guys went to the interview at UF, did they tell you guys what the cost might be? including housing, tuition, books,...? Do they accept Bright Future Scholarship? I still have 40 credit hours left, if I go to LECOM, I will lose the Scholarship that I have because they don't accept bright future scholarship.
Yes they accept Bright futures up to whatever the total is (132 hours undergraduate I believe?).
They did not talk to us about cost, but we were free to ask the 1PDs all the questions we wanted. I believe if you go on their site www.cop.ufl.edu/studaff you can find it rather easily.
I was also told by them that buying most of the books is a waste of money, not all the professors require you to do reading and want you to learn what they lecture on. That would be a good question to ask them. One guy said he bought all the books and never even unwrapped some of them.
I just visted that website, but they don't really tell us how much the total cost will be. at LECOM, tuition is only 19 thousand dollars ( about 4 000 dollars more than UF), but they also estimate the cost for other expenses too. so I guess if we add them up, they would also cost about 35 000 dollars at UF. Do you think so?

Congratulations on your interview 😀...mine is April 16th (Gainesville). My parents and I are headed there to get an apartment for fall classes this weekend. 🙂 Even if I totally blow my interview (which I hope I don't), I will still be in Gainesville this fall. 😍

really? lucky me. My interview is at my 4th choice. I'm still happy to have gotten one, though.
p.s. it's "Macgyver"
Unsubsidized loans are capped at $8,500. That means anything over that amount you borrow will accrue intrest at 6.8%
Toss out the notion student loan is good debt. Follow your dreams, do well in school, but DONT waste your money.

So does that mean that they already looked at PCATs in the 70-74th percentile already? I got a 73 and a 3.6 (science GPA) and I still haven't heard anything. 🙁
Hey everyone! I've been mostly lurking the last couple of months, but truthfully, I'm getting a little down about the waiting game myself and my family, who think I'm a shoe-in, are getting a little on my nerves, lol! I'm 40, and believe it or not I'll be getting my masters in drug chemistry from UF at the end of the summer semester and I haven't heard anything either. I emailed Penny and she told me the same thing as some of you have said--that my application is still being reviewed. At this point, I think those of us who have outstanding pre-reqs (mine is Physics II and Speech...can you believe Speech!I almost have a masters and I had to retake that) will have to wait until the semester is over to hear anything--that's my take.
My stats? Well, most of my pre-reqs are old, some during a time I was kinda rebellious...82% PCAT, 3.2 overall undergrad GPA, 3.35 science GPA, 4.0 graduate GPA. I'm a licensed lab supervisor, executive director of a non-profit organization, and a professional musician...I'm more than a little bit baffled I haven't been emailed. It's so hard waiting for someone else to determine your future, don't you think?
That's hysterical Ochem!(about speech) Didn't you say somewhere you had a PhD?
Forensic Medicinal Chemistry--Drugs of Abuse. I was about halfway into my classes when it all woke up the Rx dragon. I'm still wondering why I didn't just buy a new car or get a b@@b job for my mid-life crisis.

Ohhhh....my husband knows I'd have an aneurysm if he did that. He's already freaked enough. I've applied to another school as well and he had to give me the news that I was put in the alternate pool because yes, I was out of town. He could hardly speak.
I saw someone else post the same thing about GPA's and PCAT scores being more lax this go around. If this is true, I'm not sure why they're taking so long either. Haha, sometimes I wish they'd just send me a rejection so I could move on.
Coincidentally, my friends who graduated from FSU have made me promise that I would adorn the outside of my house with 'Nole'-paraphernalia if I'm not accepted 😀.
Oh, and OChem...I'll probably need a new car if I have to drive to 4 years of pharm school...don't really need the B@@B job, lol.
That's crazy! My parents have told me I'm a shoe-in and it's getting on my nerves too.Two days ago that I got a letter in the mail from UF and she wanted to know if she could open it since I wasn't at home. I said yeah and then she said "April Fool's!!". That wasn't cool! haha. I just don't see why they're taking so long. A friend of mine who is a P1 @ the Jacksonville campus said one of her professors, who is on the admissions committee, said the PCAT's & GPA's weren't as high this year and that this was a good time for us to apply.
Did you have an interview yet? Because I got my acceptance 5 days later. As far as interview invites, those seem to be random, I got mine a month and a half before my interview, my friend got his 5 days before...we both got accepted.
Nope. I didn't get an interview yet 🙁. I'm preparing myself for the worst as the inevitable end is coming. I'm trying not to let it bum me out though.
What campus are you applying too? More than half the dates are left for interviews, and I am pretty sure, the final interview at Gainsville still includes interviews for all the campuses. Jacksonville hasn't even had their first interview date yet.

Oh no I would die!I graduated from UM so I would have an aneurysm walking in my door everyday if that happened. lol
If you're accepted you can always get the car as a celebration present and get the other when you graduate to congratulate yourself! 😀
PS
Is there a formal white coat ceremony?? And if so, does anyone know if the white coats are customized with your name and the pharmacy emblem?
silly i know, but i've dreamt of that customized white coat during my 4 years of undergrad at NSU while the graduate students stroll around in their coats. . sigh.
...don't really need the B@@B job, lol.
Good for you, not to get off task, but fake is just that fake (in my opinion.)
Oh, the waiting game, over for me (interview this Friday) still going on for some. I say everyone with a 75 pcat and 3.0 gpa will get accepted. Just give it time and keep playing the waiting game.
I asked this before, has anyone had any dreams or nightmares while playing the waiting game? I had some weird dreams/nightmares. So glad it is over. (although I am not fully accepted yet and I can still blow the interview.)
I have almost ten years of teaching experience at the collegiate level and UF would not waive the speech requirement for me......so, I am taking public speaking this semester.......it's not as bad as I thought, but is a waste of time and money.....
What about my case? do you consider it a dream or a nightmare? Just kidding. My cousins and my parents want me to go to LECOM, but I change my mind when I go to work because the pharmacist doesn't want me to go. Don't even know what I'm doing yet.
