UF c/o 2014... It Begins!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My Physics II final is tomorrow night...I am so glad that class is OVER! I have my Org Chem II final on Wed morning, I am so going to miss that class, great Prof, good classmates...so sad🙁

I felt the same way. I have had the same chem prof for the entire sequence of 4 classes. He is great. This class for Orgo II was amazing! He allows us to not take the final if we have an A in the class so I didn't have to take that final, I just had a final test 4 last week.

ANd I give up, what did the philosophy major say to the pharmacist?

Congrats for not having to take the final. I had my Org Chem Lab final today...I think I earned a 100 average in that class, keeping my fingers crossed for the lecture class though.

We have combined lab and lecture, same professor for both. So no need to seperate the finals.

Though I did well in that class, i was dreading that final. All those mechanisms and reactions on one test. Would be so easy to mess it all up!

hey everyone,

does Penny email back, notifying you that she received your acceptance decision email?!

Penny sent me my conditional acceptance email on Thursday afternoon, I sent my acceptance confirmation that same day and she sent me an email back saying she received it approx 5 days later (including weekend). She must be completely overrun with emails though. I would give her some more time.

No takers?....

Do you want fries with that?

Actually, that is not the answer to, "What did the Philosophy major say to the Pharmacist?" ... because the Philosophy major later went to Law School. Awhile back, that used to be the answer to "What did the lawyer say to the..." when the law profession was flooded.

Looks like the Pharmacy profession may be heading that way soon.

I don't really think that pharmacy is as flooded as everyone is saying that it is. In this current economy it is hard for anyone to get a job, no matter what the profession. Even companies that *need* people can't hire because of hiring freeze etc. Also, there are a lot of retirement age people still working because they lost some of their retirement savings went the economy headed south. Those people will eventually HAVE to retire.

It remains to be seen what it will be like in 4 years when we are graduating. But if the market truly gets flooded and salaries get reduced then fewer people will go into pharmacy and then the salaries go back up again. Also, something the pharmacy schools have been considering doing for a long time and have yet to do because there was such a shortage of pharmacists was require a bachelor's degree to get into the program. That could curb the amount of pharmacists.

Interesting about requiring a Bachelor's. Makes sense. Speech Therapy and Occupoational Therapy both now require a Master's whereas they used to require a Bachelor's...believe it or not, there is talk about them requiring a Ph.D. which is pretty extreme. Just like Pharmacy went from the Bachelor's version to the PharmD. But, shockingly, I recently found out that many dental schools and even medical schools don't require a Bachelor's...although the vast majority of their students have one.

True, fewer people will want to go into Pharmacy, but with new schools...and sattelite schools opening up left and right at schools across the country, we could more than double the total amount of students.

So, although the better students will pursue fields with more money in them, there will always be people with 2.0 GPA's and 50 composite PCAT scores who would LOVE to be pharmacists.

But, so true that with the current economy, just about every profession is in SUPER bad shape right now, so pharmacy is probably no worse than anything else...maybe better??? Imagine being an architect or anything in the new construction industry!

oh yeah,

i attended the st. pete campus for an interview 04/12 and there was supposed to be 16 ppl or so scheduled for the interview but there were 3 no shows. this may account for the statistics shown on pharmcas..

i know this topic was discussed earlier,

but is it too early (i just got accepted two weeks ago) to request for a transfer to gainesville campus as interviews are still going on anyways? i would think it's harder to switch after they assign campuses to accepted students..

I think the easiet way to answer your question is to read everything written by this person on this forum:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/search.php?searchid=13798664

You have to click on each posting to see more than the first two lines. Basically, you wouldn't be transfering, you would want to petition to switch campuses and you would need a "compelling" reason which could be financial (I have a roomate there to share expenses with) or perhpas, you need to keep seeing some doctor in Gville whom you have a good relationship...but it is probably pretty hard to do.

I never thought the girl in the above thread would be successful, but she was, so I think the real key is to just keep calling and harassing and begging until they give in...but message her and get her opinion.

Actually, I just read a bunch of her posts and they weren't that helpful. The one dated 2/13/2010 is probably the best. You would start at the bottom and work your way up since they put the most recent dates first.

I have one final left in my pre-pharmacy career and I quite frankly can't make myself focus. I have lost all interest and ability to focus on physics II. Physics in general has never been a favorite subject of mine, but I was better than II... I just gotta get through that final tomorrow with at least a C in order to get an A...but right now, that seems like too much work!!!😱

Anyone else having issues?

Hang in there, I took my Physics II final last night and my Org ChemII this morning. Just have to finish a paper for English (1500 word started today, due tomorrow), and the English final (Friday), and my World Religions final (tomorrow) and I am finally free!!! At least my Chinese II class didn't have a final.😛 Don't stress, I will do that for you. My pre-pharmacy career will be over next week when I graduate. Gainesville, here I come!

I understand (am taking it was well and its never been my fav, although it's a bit more interesting now that I'm older)--the equations just seem to get longer and more convoluted as we go, lol! I'm not having issues per se because I'm still very focused on getting accepted (and I still have one more exam in 2 weeks). Do it for those who have the faith in you to be a great pharmacist!:luck: Go get that 5-hour energy, girl!

Just remember, "Studying is for losers!" Write the formulas down on the inside of your left palm (if you are right handed.) Then, just be sure to keep your hand cupped and subtlely glance at it when you need to.

Also, the answer to question number 3 is "42 Ohms."

Lastly, keep in mind that if you get a zero, you will still pass the class with a high enough grade to keep your spot at UF. (And keep repeating to yourself as you fall asleep tonight, "#3 is 42 Ohms...#3 is 42 Ohms...#3 is 42 Ohms.")

No need to write the formulas on my hand, she gives them to us.

42 ohms...42 ohms...got it... Haha:laugh:...I will laugh if question three has an answer in ohms, because she will give me a few points for knowing the right unit!!!

I am in the same boat you are! I cant get motivated! I am taking 4 classes, but only needed two for UF, Speech and Physics II. But I dont want to ruin a 4.0 by being lazy at the end of my pre-pharm career! That would just be STUPID....

I had Orgo II and Physics II, I already finished Orgo II with an A, and I don't want to ruin my GPA (4.0 at my current college including all pre-reqs), but I find I really haven't cared about physics all semester. And I have mangaged to pull a 96% average on tests...so maybe all this disinterest works for me.😀

That's awesome! Looks like we will be classmates!

If you are on facebook page going for Orlando, though it is a little sleepy now...
http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/group.php?gid=331701402537

The name of the group is :
University of Florida Orlando Pharmacy Class of 2014

Can't wait to meet everyone. Also, I am in the process of setting up a CPR class in order to fulfill that requirement. If you are interested send me a message and I will keep you updated!

Hey, I've been searching for a CPR course too. However, the ones I found only take 5 hours, so I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right ones. How was your class?

They gave us the formulas too. I was thinking of Physics from my original college back in 1984, that class didn't have a lab, so I had to retake Phys I and II.

Write the formulas on your hand anyway, then get caught cheating on purpose...then say, "I am not cheating, we are allowed to have the formulas...I just perform better if I write it on my hand and hide it and act all clandestine. For I am Special Agent PharmGrllJax Queen of Physics, if you need my help, just yell, 'Physics help please!' and click your heels 3 times and I will appear!!!"

e-mail McKenzie..he is the one in charge of that. my petition was approved thankfully 👍

So, if you don't mind my asking, what were your "extenuating circumstances" which got your campus change request approved? I suspect, if people request early enough (before Gville gets close to full) then they approve anyone with a halfway decent reason. I don't know of anyone not approved.

I guess they figure they might as well accomodate anyone willing to go through the red tape to appeal...since there is no down side for them, you will just take a spot from someone not accepted yet.

Just keep in mind, some people drop out of the program, and in my opinion, the satellite campuses have a "one large study group atomosphere" where classmates will help you out as much as possible.

I am not familiar with Gville, but you must be more self motivated to study and not have too much fun with all that Gville has to offer...which is plenty. But, if you got into the PharmD program, you have already proven yourself...yet some people still drop out...so just keep in mind that you must self motivate!!!

I was not approved (I petitioned months ago), probably because I was honest. I've been with my girlfriend over 5 years and she will be getting her MBA at the Gainesville campus, and I wanted to continue living with her. That wasn't good enough, but they said being married is a good enough reason (like that is any more permanent). Oh well. It's probably better to be away from all the undergrads anyway.

Hey everyone!

I will be attending the Gainesville campus in the fall, and I am looking for a female roommate. If you're interested, please PM me. =)

Just finished my last undergrad final... time to graduate and start chillin' hardcore before school starts again.

Anyone that will be attending the Orlando campus this fall, or are in the Central Florida area, if you are interested in the CPR class I am setting up please message me with your email address so I can add you to the mailing list.

Thanks!😀

Same here! It is such an odd feeling. I have been working for so long on this goal, and now I am here. I am so excited to have this nearly 4 month break, that way I can relax some, and work on gathering all this paperwork...and getting all sorts of shots 🙁.

I will be taking celebratory shots as well 😉

So I just spent some time going over some of the information from last year. The Orientation schedules, the course descriptions and schedule...

Now that I am done with the pre-reqs (I assume grades are out Monday), and I have been accepted...I am getting so excited and interested in all that is to come....and a little apprehensive.

I guess with this big of a commitment it is normal to be a little nervous... I just can't wait to start, even if I am grateful for the 4 month break.

Can I take some celebratory shots before my required shots? That might make the required shots go a little better!!!!
Yes that's a requirement.
I can't believe I'm awake right now... first day with no classes.. no plans.. and I didn't sleep in! My body must be used to getting no sleep cuz of finals.

Do you know what our schedule will be like in the fall? Like how many classes a day on what days at what times lol?

All I have is the Orlando Campus Schedule for days to be ON campus. I don't have the lecture schedule, I am assuming because it isn't really scheduled, we can watch them anytime after they are uploaded. I know that each site runs a little different so it depends on which campus you will be on. The 1PDs were really helpful to send me the schedule so I could get an idea of what to tell my mother-in-law since she watches my younger daughter.

It is the schedule for this year's 1PDs so ours will be different but it is an idea of what is to come.
