UF c/o 2014... It Begins!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
He was kidding of course!!! Poking fun of how the general public views the profession. Working as a tech I can 't tell you how many times I was told, "All the pharmacist has to do is count pills, what is taking so long!"

Yes, the Orlando campus will have some entertainment! If we take ourselves too seriously we won't make it out of this experience (pharmacy school) with our sanity in tact!

lol k I hope hes kidding. Its hard to pick up on social cues over the internet, but usually when someone says "In my honest opinion" I tend to initially believe them.

Ha thanks! I have an anteater obsession lol... my life goal is to have one as a pet.

pleased_to_meet_you_im_an_anteater.jpg

Seriously.. how can you not love that!!!!!

That is awesome! My husband has an obsession with armadillos...He would love one as a pet, but so not practical!

One big reason to go to UF versus other Florida schools is bragging rights. For the rest of your life, you will be able to say that you went to the undisputed best school in the state of Florida...I don't just mean PharmD school, I mean undergrad school or whatever. And, for people into sports, you get to be a Gator. Me, I am not into sports AT ALL, I am still trying to figure out why everyone makes such a big deal about Tebo, I mean let's face it, it's just a machine to record TV shows!:laugh:

I'm not a big sports fan but I LOVE BEING A GATOR! You will too once school starts in fall! It's all part of the school spirit.

Back in the day I bought an old beat up BMW with 167,000 miles on it (one of the bigger mistakes of my life.) One of the many times it broke down, I borrowed a friends car. Afterwords, I told them that their car needed a repair because when I opened the driver door, it kept making a buzzing sound and it wouldn't stop until I took the keys out. She told me that it is supposed to do that so you don't lock your keys in the car. My broken down BMW didn't do that as that was one of many of its broken features.

Anyway, I was really insulted and I told her that I couldn't believe that she thinks that I am that stupid. She replied that very often when I am being serious, she thinks I am kidding so she never knows when I am being serious.

Two things are at play here (1) I have an INCREDIBLY dry sense of humor and (2) I am sort of like the absent minded professor meaning that sometimes when I am totally serious, I am an incredibly huge idiot, whereas other times I am rather intelligent. Thus, one can never tell when I am kidding or not.

But you all have missed the point, no comments on my Tebo(w) joke? I love that one! C'mon, isn't that just a machine used to record TV shows? That's hillarious!!! I still laugh at that one!

And, of course I know there is more to being a pharmacist than just counting pills and confirming prescriptions. Let's face it, anyone could do that, the real challenge is that you have to stand on your feet all day, and with my flat feet, that is no easy feat (no pun intended.)

By the way, my real name is Daniel. When I signed up at studentdoctor.net they warned me not to use my real name as my username...and everyone knows not to mess with the internet...cause the internet is all powerful and it will track you down if you don't follow the rules.

Funny you say that, my wife has learned that anytime I start a sentence with, "I have something really important to tell you..." it means I am kidding. It took her a while, prior to that she would get a little anxiety and wait for the bad news. Now, whenever I say that, after, I ask how she knows I am just kidding and she tells me, "because you started with I have something really important to tell you."

I didn't even realize that I had been doing that. I guess I feel that in order for my "jokes" to have maximum impact, they must be put into a very serious setting, otherwise people would just think I was kidding...and that's not funny, that's just a silly joke.

Dillos are pretty cool... I just get sad when I see them upside-down on the side of the road in south florida🙁

Finally entered the lottery. GO GATORS!

Hey, everyone. I think I need an advice from you guys. I received an interview invitation last Monday. I replied and also sent her another email to make sure that she had received my response. However, she didn't reply to my emails. Should I send her another one? I don't want to bother her; I know she's very busy these days. On the other hand, I don't want them to presume that I chose to decline the invitation ( in case she didn't receive my emails). To the people who have gone to the interview, did she reply to your emails?

I would say write her back or call. Just be specific in the email, saying that you would like to know if she received your interview confirmation email. I'd rather be safe than sorry, TBH.

BTW, She sent me an email back saying that I am confirmed accepting the interview invite... so I would definitely contact them ASAP since you have like 7(?) days to respond?

I too got an email back from her confirming my responses, I actually got it the next day. I would definitely call at this point if you sent two emails and haven't heard anything.

Yesssir! What did you have to do to fix that issue you were having?

Well first I had to call them to reactivate my account. I'm guessing they had to do that because it's been like 2 or 3 years since I entered the lottery.

Then, I had to call them AGAIN because they activated my account but made me ineligible to enter the lottery (no idea why). But it's all good now 👍

Is anyone able to see their financial aid status on ISIS for 2010-2011 yet?😕

I need to learn how to navigate ISIS and the email system. I haven't played with it since I was accepted, hopefully it is easier than when I was signing up to get a UFID for the supplemental application.

I received my conditional e-mail with the "to-do" list and sent back the form saying that I would be attending. After sending back that form how long did it take for everyone to receive conformation from Penny that she received it?

As far as ISIS goes, when will we get instructions on how to access that? Or am I overlooking something? Thanks!

Penny replied within 24 hours, but I would assume she is swamped and give her a few days.

As far as ISIS, I have no idea.

I don't know if you all will have access to ISIS yet, but you can try.

Go to: www.isis.ufl.edu

If you have already created a username (gatorlink ID) and password, enter it.

Note: your gatorlink is not the same as your UFID

It looks like I might be giving in and switch over to AT&T and buy an iPhone! Anyone else doing the same?

Not with all of this talk about iPhone coming to Verizon in July. I'll wait till then to consider switching.

Is that the name we set up to be our email when we signed up to get our UFID? Or are the systems seperate? If so, how do I access that email?

I will be most likely. We found out that my husband gets a 24% discount on AT&T cell service, so ya probably switching.

Really? If it does, I might as well not switch! I have a Blackberry with Verizon right now. Is it going to be the 4 OS iPhone?

Have you checked your spam emails? The invitation went to my regular email but the interview confirmation and info went to my spam! So check everywhere.

That's what I hear. Of course, nothing is for sure.

Yes, 4 OS iPhone (so I hear).

From my undergraduate years at UF, the financial aid status is usually announced in the summer. The money will be disbursed after 2-4 weeks when school starts.

What if you need your financial aide award to qualify for an apartment? The reason I'm asking is because many apartments ask for you to show ability to pay (as in paycheck stubs, loan awards, bank account info, etc). I don't want my parents to co-sign for me, but the apartment I am in the process of reserving for August wants me to show that I make 3x the monthly payment amount. I don't start working full time until next week so I don't have the paycheck stubs yet, and the financial aide awards have not been given at my specific school either. I am wondering if they will hold my approval until this information comes out. I just really want to make sure I can still have the specific apartment that I picked out (I don't want to live on the first floor alone for example... it just freaks me out).

I don't want to make you feel bad. But last year, we did not have financial aid award letter till August. A lot of people including me e-mailed, called FA office and were told to wait. I hope they change it this year. Anyway, in this economy, it should not be a problem finding a decent apartment in Florida. Plus, when I rent I was never asked for income, they only did credit and background check. You don't buy a house. Why they need to check your income?

Her apartment is in Georgia. Oh, and the apartment that I am currently living at required that I show something that proved I was able to provide 3 times the monthly rent too... and I live in Florida (Tampa to be exact).

Tink... if I were you, I'd call the property manager/landlord/whatever and tell them you're situation. No one will be able to give u a better answer than them.

Yes. So if you put [email protected], your gatorlink username would be "Jax" and the password should be the same.

I have an email that I signed up for way back when I signed up for the UFID, I managed to get into the system last night. Though I still don't have any emails to check in there. Is it advisable to forward the UF email to a normal email address?

Have you checked your spam emails? The invitation went to my regular email but the interview confirmation and info went to my spam! So check everywhere.

yeah. I sent her 3 emails, and I checked all of my folders every 30 minutes. Nevertheless, I've not received anything from her yet. Does anybody have her phone number? thanks.

Just call UFCOP and ask for Penny (352) 273-6312.

Yeah it was like that in Miami/Ft Lauderdale too, except when I lived at my last apartment... it was a condo owned by a couple, so they didn't care about co-signing or showing paychecks or anything. My boyfriend and I just had to pass a background check to be accepted by the association.

I told the leasing agent that it might be over the summer time when I get any sort of letter, so I think I'm just going to try and give my paychecks from this coming week when I work 35 hours, and bank info and see if that's enough.

They have to wait a couple of weeks after school begins to give out the financial aid. The first week of school is drop/add, so they have to make sure you are enrolled with X amount of credits (eventhough it doesn't apply to us becuase we have to take those courses anyways). Also, I would recommend to get direct deposit! The money will go directly to your bank account... otherwise you have to wait for the check to come in the mail... and who knows how long that would be!

It's a lot different at private schools though. At all the schools I've attended they give you the check the same exact day school starts. I've had direct deposit and not had it, but I got the check cashed the first day of classes no matter what. Without the direct deposit I just went to the bursar's office with my student ID and picked it up in person. I needed a refund check once from Miami Dade College because I paid too much for my summer classes and it took like a month for them to send me the MDC One Card in the mail though. It was pretty annoying.

Those of you from this past Gainesville interview I just received my real Conditional aka the long one lol So, start checking your email! 🙂

Has anyone who is not a UF undergrad tried to apply for football tickets? I was curious since we are all conditionally excepted if we can sign up... especially if we are not past UF students ? 😕

I got my official Conditional Acceptance email as well. Anyone know if the student health center does the TB test? I dont think I've had one, and if I did it was when I was a child. Also, does anyone know if they want a recent Hep B vaccination or does the series I got back in middle school okay? I have a lot of stuff to ask my old pediatrician's office for.

The UF student health center does do the tb test. My student health center already had all my health records and shot records so getting all my information was very easy.

I am not good at reading between the lines. What does a 'flight risk' mean?
...The committee may have looked at the undergrad GPA and not looked at the Graduate GPA (since most students don't have any Graduate classes, they aren't used to looking at that line?)
...Also, no such thing as over qualified ...
...It is very, very, very, very weird that you didn't get an interview yet.😕
...Try this, call Marcy

Hey HY!

My definition of 'flight risk' in this aspect is this: I failed a couple of classes in 1991 and just prior because I not only made some poor work/school scheduling choices, but I also didn't address them (and I could have then). So, I wonder if they think I'll screw up again. I can't imagine after getting a 3.7 at my BS college and a 4.0 now that they would think I would do that, but...

Haha, I'm definately not over-qualified.

Like someone else said, the Adcom's decisions are quite unpredictable. Coincidentally, it was Marcy that told me about the couple of grad students that almost didn't get recognized--she was the one that reviewed my transcript. Initially, by the way, she said my transcript history didn't look very promising and seemed a little bit annoyed (and I was like, do you not realize those F's are from twenty years ago?), but warmed up a little bit after we talked.

Did I mention one of my references is a professor in the pharmacy school and an ex-pharmacist, lol (and I'm sure it was a good reference).

The final transcript won't be available until end of May (right?) I doubt they would wait that long for that given your other stats.

I would think they'd think I would continue in the vane I've been in. I think, on that note, I'm going to email my professor who did my recommendation and ask him if they've even approached him.

GO TEBOW!! Get drafted TODAY!

Pouncey and Hernandez are good too! I want tebow to do well in the NFL so my autographed gator football AND autographed cover page of the Alligator newspaper (with tebow on the cover) to be valuable! lol and i have a picture with him 😍
