UGA c/o 2017 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What I've heard the most is that letters go out in march. And the top 10% goes before.

Idk what I would do without this forum... I've been a lurker for months. The anticipation of this whole process is insane! I've never been on my toes for so many months.

That was totally me last year, so I understand. There's not even that many UGA applicants on here, so the info is limited. You can call and politely ask the timeline for this year. The adcom office is used to applicant stalking:laugh:

My Fall transcript is listed as "received" so now it's just a waiting game. :scared:

Could someone post the link to the status update page? As embarrassing as this is, I seem to have misplaced the email with that info... =/

I posted this in the thread started tonight, but since this is the official one, here's my wisdom on the subject again🙄:

Last year I got a letter via snail mail (notifying me that I was waitlisted) in mid February. Looking back on the UGA 2016 hopefuls thread, looks like that's when acceptances and rejections came as well. Pretty sure UGA calls the top 10% of applicants to offer them spots a little before letters arrive. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Oh, I was a South Carolina contract student.

UGA doesn't interview, only calls references, and not even all of them. Last year's thread is UGA CVM c/o 2016 hopefuls.

Thanks for the info! Just curious, as a fellow South Carolinian applying to UGA, how competitive were you against the requirements for acceptance?

this is the most dreadful waiting time My entire family is bugging me about UGA's decision since it's my IS. About 3 more weeks or so to go! I believe LORs were contacted prior to decisions being mailed last year so maybe we'll here something these next few weeks.

the antici...................pation killing me.

I was told that the committee is done reviewing the applications. We had a prevet club meeting and the vet that visited said so (he said he's on the committee).

I just read a little more about the new teaching hospital. Super excited for that!

Wow looks like they might be moving a little bit faster than last year. Thanks for the inside scoop, PetPony. 🙂

No problem. 🙂 I'm really excited for the UGA people and love that there are a few more here this year. Next round, I'll be there too hopefully! 🙂

Anyone have their residency approved yet? :eyebrow:

Nah. Don't worry about it, they probably just haven't updated the status page. If you're worried about it you can try to contact them, though.

I just saw on FB that someone was accepted. Just as a warning. 🙂

Just got a call from Dr. Carmichael! And I'm in! Even though my residency still hasn't been updated lol.

I just got an acceptance call at 5pm!!! I'm going to be a veterinarian!!!!

woo hoo go future dawgs! Hope I get mail one of these days heh

Congrats to the 10% people! WOoHoo! I'll be a letter person if I get that lucky, but now at least we know the ball is rolling :scared:

I applied to UGA too, and now that the top 10% are hearing back, I'm freaking out just a little bit. I'm compulsively checking my mailbox even though it will probably be another 3-4 weeks before I hear from them. :scared:

actually mail was sent out like 4-5 days after they called the top 10% last year, so we might be hearing from them this week.....

just a guess...

Just because you aren't in the top ten, doesn't mean you won't make it. You still could be in the majority of the class, 90%!

I'm SO NERVOUS! Everyone do a mailbox check and report back! I can't take the anticipat........

Good luck everyone!

🙂

I'm new to the forums, but UGA is my IS so I am waiting very patiently for my letter. Hopefully we'll get them soon! Anyways, I was wondering if any of ya'll know if your LOR's have been contacted, mine haven't and I am curious as to why they seem to only contact some.

Welcome! I see my LOR writers daily, so I assume I would hear if they had been contacted, but as for why they call some and not others, I have no idea. 🙂

Heard from an inside source that letters will go out in March (last year they came in February).

No idea if any of my LOR writers have been contacted. I only see one of them weekly and she is pretty busy with other things and would likely forget to tell me if they called her.

Really? I was hoping it'd be sooner than that since the top 10 already got their phone calls. What a bummer. 👎

OMG! Just got the call!!! Top 10%....shaking, crying, can't believe it! 😱

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone here!

Just FYI: They said letters won't go out until March for everyone else.

That's awesome! Congrats! Good job! I'm so happy for you!

congrats pigs!! anxiously waiting for March!

Congratulations, that's awesome!! I guess they're still making phone calls!!! *fingers crossed*

Congrats!!!!! Someone should start a facebook group in the near future for c/o 2017 😉

Maybe one for accepted students, not just those who are 100% going there yet...

Hi All. Congrats to those who have gotten calls! I've been lurking SDN for a year, first post though. I was wondering if anyone here has ever actually been told by UGA that they call the top 10%. It just seems kinda bizarre that they'd only call 10ish people. Especially if people on SDN have been getting calls from last Friday until yesterday, which would mean they've only been calling like 3-4 a day. Is it possible that they really call the top 25%, 50%, only IS first-time applicants, only dual degree candidates or something like that?

Also one of my friends claimed that Admissions said something at I think a pre-vet meeting in the Fall about having over 1,500 applicants this year. Is that possible? The most recent c/o 15' and 14' that they list on their website only have ~560 applicants.

Sorry for the long post, its just frustrating how UGA's admissions process is so opaque and variable from year to year. I hate how they call on multiple days and then wait so long to send out letters if they've already made decisions.

Yes, they've actually said that they call the top ten percent.

Wait, the email that I got after my acceptance phone call says that we are in the top 10% of all applicants to UGA, not top 10% of the incoming class.

The people who get phone calls represent the top 10% of all applicants who UGA decided to accept early, not the top 10% of the incoming class (which would indeed by like 10 people)

If that's true then I'll just go ahead and start getting sick with worry, because last year they had ~800 applicants according to the letters they sent out. In other words, if they had the same # of applicants this year, then they called about 80 people with acceptances this weekend and only 22 other people should expect acceptance letters.

I seriously hope they just phrased it poorly. . .

I think it's a bit more complicated than that...

The direct quote is this: "You are in the top 10% of all applicants to UGA's College of Veterinary Medicine and have been selected for early admission to the Class of 2017."

I think that among the top 10% of all of the applicants, they decide exactly who they want to call for early admissions and call them. This means that in order to get a phone call, you have to be in the top 10% of all of their applicants AND selected by the school for early admissions (based on what I'm assuming are the phone interviews with your references, since my strongest reference told me he got a call from UGA a few hours before my acceptance call came).

On this note, we cannot really figure out how many of the top 10% of applicants they actually called to accept, meaning there's still a large shot for everybody - it's just the waiting until March for snail mail letters that is still a pain for those who did not get a call. Theoretically, some people could be in the top 10% of all georgia applicants, but not have been selected for early admissions, and yet still get an acceptance letter in the mail in March.

No fretting!

Whew! Thanks for talking me down a little bit, there, Dizzledog. I never expected myself to be quite this panicky.

And congratulations! Huge Congrats! That's where I should have started 🙂

.

Hey guys,
I'm in 2016 at UGA and we were told there were about 800 applications for our year, compared to the normal 500-ish. While 1500 sounds really high to me, I suppose it's possible since the numbers have been increasing dramatically in recent years.

The wait is brutal, but hang in there! Traditionally the letters are sent either (a) the week after early admissions phone calls (this was the case only for last year) or (b) the week *before* spring break (this has been the case ever year but last year, and this means that you guys will hear around the first week of March). So, if you don't hear back by early next week, you should probably set your sights on March.

Good luck! I know the wait is brutal, but try to think of other things. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you!

Definitely don't fret if you didn't get a phone call. My reference was the very first person called on these message boards last year, so I started freaking out when I didn't get a phone call like all the other people who had a ref contacted early.

Then I received an acceptance letter in the mail the next week with everyone else. So if they already called your refs but you didn't get early admit, it's still a great thing! If they haven't called your refs yet, don't freak out either. There's still plenty of time for that.

why can't they just do it like last year!!!

I'm just being an impatient child :meanie: but this wait seriously feels like an eternity...

Thank you! And no worries, it's definitely a stressful time for everybody, regardless of who has heard back and not. People are stressed about school grades still, getting accepted, making decisions, etc.

Does anyone know if they are still contacting the top 10% or if they are done?

Hi everyone! Congrats to the early-accepted! Just an update- my eLOR doctor was contacted this morning by admissions so it doesn't sound like they're done deciding on the rest of us yet! Hope it's a good thing...good luck to everyone!

Does anyone know how many OOS students they accept?? Thanks!
