I didn't see a thread for Georgia...but I was browsing through the past threads for hopeful applicants for UGA and it just made me really nervous! I really love how everyone helps each other through the entire process though, accepted or rejected. It's really a lot of love, help, and encouragement along the way.

I know its a long time coming for any acceptances or rejections. But I'm pretty sure everyone is close to submitting their applications (if you haven't already). As a first time applicant, the waiting is such a nerve wrecking experience! Well I'm here to play the awful waiting game with my fellow applicants this year 🙂

Thanks for starting a thread for UGA! I'm applying there too 🙂 I found the supplemental application's essay a bit odd though heh

Same! Like, this is the one essay you're basing your decisions on (besides the PS)? Really?

I'm not applying to UGA, But I'm very curious as to what your essay topic is after seeing your posts lol

I'm not applying but a friend told me about it. Dumb.

The essay topic was something along the line of..."Your professor gives you an A- in a course you believed you deserved an A. What do you do?"

It's pretty random. I guess they want to make sure that we're not going to have a meltdown making some bad grades coming in as A/B students. Thats my guess at least.

Nice to meet you all!

I'm applying to GA! It's my top choice! Fingers crossed! It's a beautiful campus and an awesome school! Go bulldogs!

^ Cool! I haven't visited yet and it's my IS hahaha >___> I'm going to set up a day to visit with a coworker of mine.

Thought I'd say hello again!

I submitted my VMCAS today, so other than one last LOR that needs to submit, I am finished with this application crapola! 😎

How's everyone else doing?

Hey! I'm in the exact same position, everything submitted, but still waiting on one last letter of reference! So now that I'm all submitted and stuff, I've taken to stalking old news from past years concerning UGA's acceptances and such of course since it's fresh on my mind, and I found the following information:

UGA does claim to interview your references, but in past years people have gotten accepted without any references having been called up. I wonder if they call the references whose letters seem the weakest, or if they call references based on specific questions that occur to them upon reading the letters.... but apparently nobody has found any sort of pattern as to who gets called and when.

UGA calls certain accepted students in February apparently, this may be the top 10% of students whom they've accepted or it may not be. I think they snail mail out acceptance letters March, but I'm not sure who gets a phone call or who doesn't.

If you get waitlisted, you can call up to admissions and see what spot number you are on the waiting list for each applicant group (in-state, contract seat, out of state).

Go UGA applicants!

I think the admissions guy told is they try to call one of the references.

I know that one of the vets I work for was called last year (for a different applicant) and essentially they asked her whether or not she would hire them once they graduated. She said yes and he got in 😀.

Anyone else religiously checking the "status check" option on our application?

Everything has been received so far but my VMCAS application and I submitted about 2-3 weeks ago. Kansas State has already received my VMCAS, so I'm wondering my IS hasn't received it yet. Anyone know how long it takes?

Don't stress it. They do not update that "status check" feature "3 days after receiving" your info like it says they are supposed to. I had real issues with them updating my transcript info. I just went up there and the lady looked it up in 2 seconds. If you are stressed just pop in and ask, they are really nice. 😀

Almost nobody.

👍

I was told not to even waste my time with an application there. I did undergrad in Georgia and really liked the program, but as a Tennessee resident, I had pretty much a zero percent chance of acceptance.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using SDN Mobile

They better count me as in-state when it comes to application time. They messed up for undergrad and better won't when it comes to vet school. :meanie:

I applied as an out of state student. I think anything is worth trying, if you like the school enough 🙂 I really like their status check option, although it isn't updated as religiously as I check it! The office staff are very helpful over the phone though.

Good luck! Someone will be accepted probably so why not you? 🙂

Just completed my Graduate School application......just in case 😀

👍 That's one of my backup plans, too. Also at UGA? Or other schools, too?

Just UGA. Dr. West offered me a spot if I want it and he's doing some amazing research, so at least in the Spring I'll be working with him. He knows that if I get accepted this round that I will have to leave him in May, but he's cool with it 😎

Cool! I've thought about emailing him about research but then started with Dove/Azain so.. Well I hope that you'll have to leave him in May! :xf:

Fingers crossed for us BOTH! I need a partner in crime! 😀

I'm not applying yet but I'll sure need the luck later.

Oh my god. I might be applying next year. I just thought of that. Oh my. D:

I worked with Azain last year too, he's awesome! Applying this year too...good luck y'all!

More and more people from UGA. 😍

Good luck!

There are a lot of people applying from UGA undergrad, but I guess they're probably not on SDN. I personally know around 20 (probably more haha) Thanks!

I know a lot of people applying, just not on SDN. My two coworkers at the vet school are applying. I really hope they get in. :luck:

And my probably new roommate (she visited today and liked it! 🙂) is applying, too.

Which part of the vet school do you work in?

Meh. I don't really interact with animals at all. Just clean up after them when they're gone. Or horse stalls while they're still there. And it doesn't even count as vet hours. 🙁

Does anyone else's status check say that the VMCAS app has not been received yet? I'm assuming they're just behind on updating but...meh.

^ mine hasn't been received yet and its been about a month

I submitted mine way before the deadline, it was "mailed" on the 28th and "revised" today. So they mailed it again. Why they did this is beyond me. But as long as you submitted it before the deadline it's not an issue, they're just really busy. Not to mention the mail goes to the general UGA mail before it's dispersed to the different colleges. Don't worry y'all, it'll get there!

Good to know, I am in the same position. I submitted VMCAS over a week before the due date, and it still hasn't shown up on my status check as of now.

Yeah, I went by the office on October 1st and checked to see why mine hadn't been posted as "received"....poor guy was up to his eyeballs in paperwork. I sent mine in a solid week before the due date, so I was nervous, but he had it there in his computer, just not updated. So, long story short, don't stress it 😀

..Or just go by and ask him about it, he was super nice.

It's listed as "Received" now. 🙂 I need to stop obsessing so much; they won't release decisions for months and my chances of getting in as an OOS applicant are practically nil anyway...

My VMCAS was received! Woot! Good luck y'all. Stay busy and don't obsess about the wait! We got this.

Finished the Georgia Residency form online. Is it just me or was it exactly the same info that they asked for on the Supplemental App?? 😛

Bumping this for another poster 😉

I posted this in the thread started tonight, but since this is the official one, here's my wisdom on the subject again🙄:

Last year I got a letter via snail mail (notifying me that I was waitlisted) in mid February. Looking back on the UGA 2016 hopefuls thread, looks like that's when acceptances and rejections came as well. Pretty sure UGA calls the top 10% of applicants to offer them spots a little before letters arrive. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Oh, I was a South Carolina contract student.

UGA doesn't interview, only calls references, and not even all of them. Last year's thread is UGA CVM c/o 2016 hopefuls.

Idk what I would do without this forum... I've been a lurker for months. The anticipation of this whole process is insane! I've never been on my toes for so many months.

I think when I applied two cycles ago, I got my letter in early-mid March, so they might have a bit more of a range in regards to when you hear. I could also be entirely wrong as to when I got my letter, but I'm pretty much it was around then.

Also, I wouldn't necessarily freak out if none of your evaluators get called. I don't recall any of mine did and I still got wait listed as an at large applicant.

I wish Georgia let us know sooner. It's my IS and if I got in there I wouldn't be spending travel cost, etc, for OOS interviews. Please, IS, let me in this year!!!!!
