UGA c/o 2021 Hopefuls

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm in-state with a reference called today (1/31). My heart only didn't stop for the email because I could see there wasn't an attachment, haha.

From the email: "We plan to notify all qualified applicants of our decision by February 15th at the latest." I'll be interested to see if they change their trend of notifying on Fridays (it's been Fridays back as far as I can see on SDN). If they stick with Friday, that would mean Feb 10 is the last Friday before Feb 15!

I'm going to college in a different city from all my references and I'm honestly too nervous to even ask them if they've been called.

I haven't gotten any emails though about them sending out decisions by feb 15

IS and no idea if references have been called- don't think they would tell me anyway :nailbiting:

Ha! Now I know why I haven't been receiving ANY of the emails. I was told my email address was updated a few months ago- as the one I used in my VMCAS has been deactivated. Parker just informed me they cannot update contact info, it must be done by the people on the VMCAS end of things. They put a data freeze on all apps on October 25th, 2016. Cool.

Hopefully they'll just call me? This sucks.

So, does everyone who meets the minimum requirements get their references called?
I'm just trying to figure out if that is a good indication of getting accepted.

I don't think so, if that's the case that is still a LOT of references to call. And honestly if you just meet the minimum requirements I don't think you'd be considered given it's just so competitive unless there's a part of your application that's totally stand-out. Nothing against the applicants, I feel it's just the nature of the process and how many people are competing for a very limited number of spots.

They also have a process where apps are preliminarily reviewed by faculty before being passed on to admission committee. And chances are they aren't even calling all the people the admissions committee reviewed.

The email said "We are finishing up our final reviews this week and next."

Since some people's references are receiving an email to set up a call and some are being cold-called, it sounds like different adcom members or staff may have been assigned certain groups of students and have different approaches to the calls (I don't know this for sure, just seems this way given the different approaches we're seeing). Some may not have started calling yet (and it's only Tuesday) so I would try not to read too much into called vs not called at this point!*

*I know it is very hard not to stress or read into things especially this close to the end no matter your situation, so no judgement 🙂.

So I just got an email titled 'UGA CVM Admissions' (I almost died) and it was Parker Moore asking for an updated picture of my driver's license since the one I provided at the time is now expired. The email stated that they are currently reviewing my application for admission to their program (yay!). He requested the picture be sent by Feb 3rd.

So maybe it will be that Friday??

This makes me think it could still be this Friday

The email they sent makes me suspect it's more likely to be next Friday. If they were on track for this Friday, the update email seems a little unnecessary. That being said I'd be super glad to be wrong and hear sooner! 🙂

Your cat (I'm assuming your profile pic is your cat) is exceptionally adorable.

I'm assuming no OOSers have heard about their references called yet? 😱

OOS and I don't think any of my references have been called.
I know all of my references very well and they would let me know asap if called.

Im IS and as far as I know none of my references have been called 🙁

I am starting to be curious if we will see separate roll outs for in state decisions vs out of state.

I'm not sure we are going to know if OOS references are being called with how few are accepted and not everyone accepted has references called. They may only be calling 30 out of the whole applicant pool and those people may not be on here. Best to just keep our fingers crossed either way 🙂

Hey everyone, I found this helpful comment written by Ceikai in last years UGA thread:

So I figured I would share some info that hopefully would calm some nerves!
Parker came to my school this past semester to talk about UGA and admissions. They way he described the whole "references being called" thing was that all applicants are initially placed into three categories sort of like a "red", "yellow", or "green". "red" are those who do not meet pre-reqs or are the applicants that essentially are rejected for not meeting admissions standards. "green" are the students that are very impressive on paper and are considered most likely to get in. He said these students may or may not have a reference or more called just as a final check but that they essentially are in unless a reference changes their mind. Lastly is the "yellow" which is where the majority of students fall and these are where most students have references called and is where references might make the largest impact on them making final decisions for an applicant. Now, that being said I don't think its like a "everyone in one category is considered equivalent" type of deal, I just think thats how they kind of sort through them at first and it can dictate how many references admissions feels they need to contact to fully judge an applicant! So just because you haven't had references called yet doesn't necessarily mean anything bad is what I take from that!
Hope that helps some people!

I wonder if anyone in admissions follows these threads too.

Anyone have an inside source in admissions they can hit up? I'm dying to know whether or not there's any chance decisions will come out this Friday

In the same boat and trying not to think too hard about it! Regardless of what happens, I'm just glad the wait will be over soon!
I have been told by more than one person (veterinarians that I feel have a good grasp on the admissions process) NOT to read to far into who gets references called and who doesn't. No real reason to sweat it at this point.
