I used certifiedbackground.com. BTW, congrats on your acceptance. When was your interview?

Those of you who got accepted, please ask to be added to the New Roll Call that's "stickied" (new word?) at the top of the pre-pharmacy forum. It's pretty lonely up there with just me and CPhTtoPharmD under the UH name. Represent...😀

   I'm just extremely bored...no school, no work until the weekend, no major paper to write or exam to prepare for. I haven't had so much free time in a long time. Maybe tomorrow I will wash my car with a toothbrush .

I have to go pick up my stethosope and BP cuff from the post office tomorrow. Slowly getting everything ready.

You're on a roll!!! I just finished my FAFSA the other day and have not really looked up the list of books you sent me. I gave the forms you emailed me a quick scan but that is as far as I went. I'm thinking of buying a Littman for my stethoscope but it's kinda expensive. Maybe my brother has an old one I can "borrow" 😀

Yes, we need a stethoscope and an analog sphygmomanometer for our bp kit. We're going to use it for the Community Wellness Program which we are required to participate in.

For FAFSA, I used the UH school code which is 003652.

hey ethyl ,r u a sophomore at uh?

Sounds like the newly accepted haven't received all the e-mails yet. Although we aren't actually suppose to have all the order forms yet.

I noticed that my Peoplesoft account has some Pharmacy acceptance and financial aid things on there now, its a little confusing as to what it is about.

Where do you see it? Especially the pharmacy acceptance part...I don't see it.

Got my rejection letter today. Dated March 14th. In summary, "we must deny your admission, thanks for applying".
Good luck to the rest.

ethyl go to Student Center in Peoplesoft. Then look at the To Do List.

Should say something like: Grad/Professional Admissions L

I don't see it. I have nothing on my To Do List. Maybe it's because my name on peoplesoft is different from my application to the UHCOP? :scared:

It might also be that I did my FAFSA a month ago, it might be some financial aid thing. It just showed up on the 18th. The same day as my 2009 Financial aid.

Oh, okay. That makes me feel a little better since I just completed mine this week.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope everything turns out well for you in the end. Good luck :luck:

hey ethyl and cphtpharmd,

when u filed your fafsa, did u just make a continuation of last yrs fafsa, or was it differnet? for example, i would be a senior next yr, but since i got into pharmacy school does that make me a first yr graduate? i already filed fafsa a month ago, before i got any acceptance letters, and indicated i would be a senior, do i have to go back and change that?
thanks for the info

yes you will be a first year grad student. This can make quite a difference. Grad students can usually get more money. Also I dont know if you were considered a dependent but grad students are considered independent students. Meaning you dont have to include you parents income and might make you more "needy". Which the financial aid department looks at. hope that helps.

thanks, cphttopharmd.

the thing is i've been getting substantial aid as an undergrad, i don't know what to expect if I put down grad student- i was guessing they'd give less grants and more loans. i'm not sure what to expect.
when you say more money do you mean grants or loans? i'd have to say i've been truly blessed because of my parents and financial aid from the gov't., i dont have debt as of YET.
do yall know of any scholarship type programs?
and also, i heard about something where if you intern with a retail chain(CVS,WALGREENS) there's this deal where you make some sort of promise(most probably a contractual agreement) where you work for them and they pay for your tuition, and i believe you have to continue working for them once you graduate. not 100 percent sure.
Where do we go for advise on about financial aid? the pharmacy office in sr2?
thanks

i'm doing mine now and i'm suppose to be a junior nxt yr. On the back of the financial aid paper that UT gave us it says that if we have not earned a degree yet we can receive aid as an undergrad. so under the question "What degree or certificate will you be working on?" we would say 1st yr bachelor's degree. But in the UH financial aid handbook states that we must select graduate or professional degree. is this due to the two different programs?

Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps

Hey guys.

I don't know how UT does things, but at UH you need to select first year grad/professional student because that is what you are. Even if you do not have a bachelors, you are still a grad/professional student. As mentioned above this will make you an 'independent' student and open you up to more financial aid.

Also, you can receive grants as a grad student. I don't know how they decide who gets one, all I can say is they exist because I had one this year and know others did as well.

Finally, there are companies who offer tuition reimbursement programs where they give you some assistance with tuition in exchange for you working for them on breaks as a tech or intern and then as a pharmacist for however many years they gave you aid. I'm sure each program is different, so if you want more information it would be best to contact individual companies to see what their programs entail.

Seriously, though, these financial aid questions are important and you don't want to make a mistake so you have any doubt don't hesitate to email or call the school so they can straighten it out for you.

Edit - I forgot to mention, don't freak out about ordering stethoscopes or other stuff right now. You will find out later all the stuff you need to buy when order forms are posted on the orientation website. There might be changes from previous years due to changes that are being made to fit new standards from ACPE that are in the process of being implemented. You will have plenty of time to get ready, so relax!

Hey Aggie07 is it true that P1's dont get pharmacy school scholarships. And that they start the second year and it is based on your performance in the first year?

CPhT, there are a couple they will give you information about at orientation that you can apply for that apply to your first year, as far as after that, I've attached the scholarship info from our handbook:

"College Scholarships
General scholarships are available from the
College of Pharmacy each year. They are based
primarily on cumulative pharmacy GPA, with
secondary consideration on financial need.
Extracurricular activities, future goals, and a
professional attitude may also be considered
for some scholarships. All pharmacy students
with a GPA of 3.00 or higher in the College of
Pharmacy are highly encouraged to apply. The
award amount varies."

ethyl go to Student Center in Peoplesoft. Then look at the To Do List.

Should say something like: Grad/Professional Admissions L

I finally have this on my To Do list. It says we have to give them (financial aid office) a copy of our acceptance letter from UHCOP.

Hey Do u know when they wil be sending out the next set of acceptance letters, cos I am waiting for one.

what i've noticed is that they send out acceptance e-mails two weeks after you interview.

Hey Do u know when they wil be sending out the next set of acceptance letters, cos I am waiting for one.

i believe its april 2nd or the week after but most likely april 2nd

i know you get an email when you get accepted but do you get one if your tabled or rejected?

You would get a snail mail instead of e-mail for being rejected or tabled.

what i've noticed is that they send out acceptance e-mails two weeks after you interview.

So, has anyone gotten an acceptance email yet from the interviews held on March 7th?
