This is true, but two of my interviewers said, "I'm not really supposed to ask this, but did your MCAT go well?" 🙄

Yup, one of my interviewers asked me point blank what my MCAT was.

They may not contact you. You're expected to know and fulfill all of their prerequisites prior to matriculation, Psychology included. I would not recommend hoping they don't notice. Good luck!

A couple of weeks after I got my acceptance letter I got an email telling me what pre-reqs I would still need to fulfill. I spoke with admissions, and the woman I talked to said that those behavioral science classes can be taken at a CC or even online. They're not picky.

no status change here. i called on thursday. there was a meeting for sure.
agreed. waiting sucks

hi,
im still a sophomore in undergrad but hope to go to UIC med school.
can someone tell me exactly how they assign campuses?
thanks

first come first serve, mostly.

Where it gets hazy is when the Chicago campus fills up, people begin to get assigned to the other campuses (Peoria, Rockford, and Champaign-sort-of). From there, they can petition the admissions office for a change. Between then and when these petitions are honored, people drop out of the Chicago campus. People have been assigned directly to these spots after interviews in April apparently. It isn't until past May 15 when the people who wrote petitions can be switched. This happens, but it also doesn't happen. For the record, most people who end up at other campuses end up happy with their situation.

so is it possible we are all on the waiting list now?

I don't think that this is likely considering that UIC accepts a high percentage of their interviewees. I am betting that we will start seeing updates on Tuesday/Wednesday once they come back online after their scheduled maintenance. I don't think they would update the site until then.

well, on my interview day they said that there were only like 50 seats available in all of the campuses combined...so i bet theyre gong to be reallllllly selective now since they still have more interviews till april i think...so, as negative as it is to say this, i wouldnt be surprised if we were all waitlisted..but i really hope im wrong!

Some of those seats are specifically for the RMED applicants too - their files went to the committee last Thursday and decisions were made. I think there's 10-15 spots for RMED. I'll let you know if I get one of those spots when my letter comes this week sometime!

Hey guys,
I had all but given up on UIC, then today my status changed to show a chart listing all the schools and interview dates. It says to choose my interview dates carefully, but under 'interview slots available', it's all 0's listed. Is this their way of telling me it's too late to interview?
Confused.

No. You've been invited to interview. Give them a call.

Edit: It would be amazing for nobody on this thread to get accepted in a given month. Try not to fret yet.

Thanks for the advice guys! I called and they scheduled me.
I'm psyched! I know the Chicago campus is full, and the chances of getting switched there are pretty slim, but if nothing else I have an excuse to visit Chicago in the spring! 🙂

I thought they accept alot more than the seats they have. so doesnt that mean they will be accepting atleast maybe 150 more studentst?

It's true that medical schools overaccept, since they know people will ultimately withdraw to accept other offers. Last year, 828 people were interviewed, and 333 matriculated (according to MSAR). It doesn't specify how many were accepted, though. To speculate how many they'll accept (versus will matriculate) this year, however, would be silly. None of us know. Good luck!

Interviewd in earlly feb, and no status change yet. Seems like we're all in the same boat. good lucks guys!

US world and News did say how many were accepted and how many matriculated (using 2005 numbers). I cannot recall exact numbers, but I can say that of the interviewed applicants, there was around a 75% acceptance rate (a little over 800 interviewed and a little over 600 accepted). So hopefully, that will console some (it has worked like a wonder drug for me) 🙂

Wow! Was there, by any chance, a breakdown of OOS vs IS interviews and acceptances? Those statistics are promising, but I know my chances are a lot slimmer as an OOS....

In terms of tuition for out-of-staters, does anyone know if UIC considers you in-state after completing M1? Many states such as Texas allow OOSers to pay the in-state residence tuition after the first year of med school. Anyone know if UIC does it too? Because $54,000 a year is quite a load to pay for 4 years straight :[

according to US News:
for fall 2005 entering class (3 yrs ago),

..........Interviewd.....Accepted......Enrolled
IS.......572..............371..............241
OOS....294..............203..............83

Apparently, they do accept a big proportion (about 2/3) of OOS applicants.
I only recently received an interview invite from UIC and my interview is scheduled for 4/11.
as an OOS applicant, I'm really psyched about it 😀

Good Luck everyone.:luck::luck::luck:

I'm sorry, but the way I'm looking at it it's 203 OOS accepted out of 574 total, making it a little more than 1/3 OOS accepted. Still, that's pretty good for a state school.

Oh, wait - you're looking at OOS interviewed vs. accepted maybe. Yeah, that's a little over 2/3 then.

When I talked to them about this because I was not sure if I would be considered IS or OS the admissions person said that they have made it pretty difficult for someone to be considered a resident to get the IS tuition. In the past I am told you paid IS after M1, but that is no longer the case. I don't know what you would need to do to be considered IS if you start OS.

Don't believe so. In Ill, to claim residency you need to live here for 1 year for non-educational purposes.

i guess easiest way would be to try to defer for a year and work, then, if going to UIC and getting IS tuition is that important and you're OOS. Obviously you'd have to give them a different reason ("i really want to do research") and I'd still check with them to see if this is legit.

I think that if you're sole purpose (IE you already have an acceptance to UIC and defer a year) is education.. you still cannot become instate.. I've heard that you can if you marry an in-stater who works.. but once again not highly recommended.. sorry..

Also the US news for 2005 are probably slightly off compared to recent years.. They overfilled their class not last year but the year before I believe and have been very wary of giving out too many acceptances because of all the money they spent on those extra 30 or so people.. last year they planned to have a class of no more than 300.. I'm not sure how that worked out.. but from my interviews this cycle and before it seems like they are tending away from handing out double or triple the acceptances. Just my thoughts..

I feel like they've tightened up on interviews to solve this as well though.

So i didnt get any status change yet. I do remember the admin person said we wont hear anything until the end of the month. I guess we still have two days in Feb.

OMG I GOT A STATUS CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 YAY!!!!!!!! everyone check your statuses now!

"A final decision was made on your application on 02-26-08. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. "

has anyone received an interview invite from the meeting on thursday?

when i called thursday i was told an preliminary decision had been made and that the final one would be made that day.

then i tried to call yesterday to see when letters went out for that decision and the lady i talked to said she did not know.

anyone know when they will be mailing interview invites?

Have you checked your online status?
My online status changed yesterday to say i should choose a date to interview... A couple people on here recommended that I call, instead of waiting for a letter (thanks for the advice guys!). They assigned me a date over the phone.

I got my status change today as well!!! Now I have to work on drafting the letter to petition for the Chicago campus...thank goodness I have some good reasons!

Still on "decision pending" 🙁. "sigh", this sucks. I wouldn't mind knowing what they really use to pick out applicants; I'm a well-qualified (well over UIC's averages anyway) IS person with a variety of ECs... Good luck to the rest of you.

STATUS CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so excited beyond words

Just got the change at 12:48 CT

Current StatusA final decision was made on your application on 02-26-08. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone.

I checked around 10:30am and it had yet to change, so it JUST changed 🙂
Good luck to all checking their status today (probably one of the most tense loading times of my life thus far)

Do you have these stats handy? The "averages" for OOS or IS matriculants?
I'm guessing this info is in the MSAR... which I never bought.

Congrats to all!!!

It would now be refreshing if we can enjoy the glow of your acceptances and not have to read about you freaking about waiting for the physical letter.

I was going to freak out about the letter, but that was before having read the above post 🙂

But I gotta say, despite the fact that it's been belabored that status change=acceptance, I still feel weird about sharing the news with friends and family until i get the actual letter. Is anyone with me on this?

Haha! Beat you to it by one minute! Do whatever you're comfortable with. If you would like the letter before you celebrate with friends and family and go nuts, wait. If not, don't. There has not, in all of the status changes both this year and last, been a status change that has not meant acceptance before june. That said, this thread becomes somewhat unreadable with posts along the lines of the "omg no mail today so freaked out!" variety that come along now. Can we at least try to cut down on them? I'd say I don't even mind "Got my letter today!" or "Got my campus assignment today!" posts.

Congrats again!

so how bad is the waiting list at UIC?

So, does anyone have any idea about the chances of getting accepted off of the waitlist?

There actually isn't even a waitlist yet. We're just sort of in limbo. Supposedly we're reviewed every month but a poster a bit back said that he got one of the UIC admission reps to essentially say that isn't true (he iterated that it could be only for his application, but as playmesomemusic said and I'm inclined to agree, if last year is any indication, there's not too much of a chance of jumping to acceptance after not getting in your first time before they form a waitlist).

A waitlist will be formed in late May/early June. At that time, a bunch of us limbo folk will be rejected. How many end up on the list and how many get off that list into the class totally varies from year to year as it completely depends on how many accepted people retain their spots.

omfg status change!!!!!!!!!
*dances like no one's watching*
*primarily because no one is*

awesomeness
so happy right now
