UMass Acceptances?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just got accepted at UMass. I interviewed feb 28

Hey, well done damoucci! That's quick turnaround - you must have really impressed or have great MCAT/GPA - or both!

So, does your acceptance agree with the 'Friday theory'?

Congratulations!!!!🙂

Also, do you mind telling us who you interviewed with? Umass is a great school. Everyone should get a chance to go. sigh

I interviewed 11/7 and have heard nothing from them. Doesn't look like a good sign 🙁

My initial interviewers weren't available but i was intereviewed by a faculty member and the director of admission. in addition, the acceptance was offered on 3/16 but i did not check my mail until 3/22

Hang in there... I also interviewed early (back in September) and have heard nothing, even though I sent a letter telling them how much I like their program. I think it is just a long wait.

Yup...lots of us are waiting. I interviewed on 11/8 and no word. Just sent an update letter last week. First choice...I really hope I can pull it off. Best of luck everyone.

Man.... looking back on the entire process, I kind of wish I had interviewed later than November. It was my first interview and I was so nervous. I've been kicking butt at my other interviews (had an assistant dean of admissions at AECOM try to convince me for the last 10 minutes of my interview to go to AECOM), but I really don't think I was all that great at UMass.... Either way, it's still my top choice and if I got in there, I'd drop every other application I have out there (well, the ones that I haven't been rejected from 😡 ). But I guess all we can do is just continue to wait... until mid summer...

Does anyone know if there are anymore spots open for that 100? I'm wondering if we are we going to have to wait until after May 15 to hear...becaue what happens when we agreed to go to another school already?

after may 15th, you can hold on to one acceptance BUT you can stay on unlimited waitlists and you can keep your application active at all the schools that have not decided yet...(aka, you can decide on a school X may 15th, get into umass june 15th, and go to umass)...

anyone heard anything this week??😕

I must be tired. I just logged in to check my status, and I freaked out because I had clicked the Application Status link instead of the Accept/Decline admission link. It took awhile for the status page to come up and I think I had a minor heart attack in those few moments. Well, in the end, no change. Try again later I guess.

no status change today 🙁

UMass is KILLING me. They are so damn slow. And when I interviewed they basically said, they're slow and you won't hear from us for a long time.

Plus I work there and we're trying to get these contracts approved for the project I'm working on, and they're slow for that as well! It makes me want to stick pencils in my eyes!

This wait sucks. I'm feeling a little disheartened by this whole process. To top things off, I've begun to study for the MCAT again. My hate my life right now!!

haha. In a perverse way, I'm glad there are other people out there who understand. this has got to change. We all have lives that we're basically putting on hold. When/ if I ever become a doctor with any relationship to any med school committee, I'm going to bother them incessantly so that they get back to their applicants sooner.

Tell me about it. For my wife, it's this or UNECOM in Biddeford, Maine. If we don't hear from Umass until May, we then have about 2 months to find a place in Maine, sell our condo, move, etc.

I hear you. Last year I was waiting & hoping I wouldn't have to re-take the MCAT, but I didn't hear from them until after it was over. At least now there are many times in the year you can re-take, though. Hang in there! :luck:

Honestly, every time I see that someone else has posted on this thread, and I haven't heard anything from them, I get really tense! :O

I checked my status today and saw no change too.

Does anyone have a guess of how many spots are left? 20? 15? 10? Does anyone know how many people get off the UMass "unofficial" waitlist on average/ year (how many people accepted in late may and after)?

I remember someone saying in an earlier post that they called the admissions office and they said there were a few but not many spots left...

I hope they let us know soon.. If I wasn't already stressed, this morning didnt help. I just got an invite to interview from NYMC.. I should be excited right?? Wrong... I had given up hope on all other schools besides UMass which is my #1 choice by a long shot and I just signed mortgage papers yesterday for a house that I'm buying right down the street from UMass... So much for NYMC... oh, i hope i get into UMass!!!!!!!!! 😱

waiting sucks! I called admissions and they said I would hear by the middle of May! But when I interviewed, they said I could hear as soon as a week, as late as two months. anybody heard anything recently?

Going by the 3 week rule, the ADCom is meeting this Thursday so there should be some more lucky acceptances on Friday.

Be excited AMC. Congratulations on the interview invitation - give it your best shot!! (Don't you have at least 24 hrs to recind after you sign papers or something?)

you think there will be acceptances given out, even though its a holiday? i know public schools in MA have friday off.

Not all towns have the day off. Plus I work at UMass and it's not an official holiday for the medical school, so I'm assuming that the admissions committee is still meeting.

I'm assuming all was quiet on the umass front today? I know it was for me goshdarnit.

yea nothing here

Checking this forum has been making me crazy, but I'm happy to report that UMass finally offered me admission - my online status changed either today or yesterday, and I interviewed over five months ago (10/17), so there is hope for those of us who've been on hold indefinitely. I'll definitely be going there. Good luck to the rest of you (and those lurkers, like me)!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

Booooo.... I still haven't heard anything >.<

Congrats though!!

congrats drjewel .... !

Hey All,

I was given some information today from a reliable source. Essentially, if you haven't been accepted by UMass at this point, you can expect to receive a rejection or a spot on the wait list. I was told that the first 100 spots have been offered to prospective students. Remember, there is a lot of movement off of the wait list. Good luck everyone. Excuse me while my life spirals out of control at a high rate of speed. 🙁

ugh i figured this was true. but not all hope is lost. i believe in the past as much as 40% of the class was taken from the waitlist.

anyone know if and when they might come out with an official waitlist? or does the anxiously awaiting anything stage persist indefinitely?

I know that, for UMass, accepted applicants have until May 15th to decide. So, I assume that the waitlist will be created at that time.

Cueball, may I ask what your reliable source was? Someone on the admissions committee? I don't doubt you, I'm just curious. Thanks!

Hi CopperStripes,

That is correct...an adcom member.

you were right cueball3... that was not great news

did you guys call Admission or something? I am thinking about calling.

::sighs deeply:: UMass was my first choice.

thanks for the inside info though, cueball
do we know how many they reject initially and how many they put on the "unofficial waitlist"?

I was thinking of calling... but I didn't really know what to ask. Have I been rejected is something that I don't think they'll answer directly over the phone. Quiet frankly, it's also not a question I feel like asking myself.

I have no idea about number of rejections or number on the waitlist. The waitlist seems to be super secret, but here is my assumption/hope. Of the remaining applicants that are in "the pool" (have had an interview but no official acceptance), my belief is that there are no straight-up rejections until they determine how many of the first 100 are going to attend. So, let's say that you are currently in the "no" pile but a greater number in the top 100 unexpectedly do not attend. You may get bumped to the waitlist pile, but maybe not at the top. Just a guess.

And just in case any of us get lucky, does anyone know the day orientation or classes begin??
:luck:

:luck:

There is a one-day orientation/open-house thing on Saturday June 2nd. And I believe that class starts on August 9th.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!!! :luck:

cueball, are you serious??

Serious about the 100 slots being filled? Yes. As serious as a myocardial infarction. I figure that I would put it in doc terms to make it seem more serious. Sorry to be the bearer of not great news. Again, don't fret. Think wait list!

I am not questioning the validity of your source, but I just spoke with the office of admissions and they informed me that they are still making decisions for acceptances, rejections, and waitlists. So perhaps there is still hope...

I also heard that the 100 spots have been offered but that does not mean an acceptance won't come. They still have a pool of students that won't be receiving rejections or wait list letters because they are like student number 103 or 105, and be given an acceptance once studence drop their offers. So don't fret guys! We just have to wait a little bit longer. Not to mention that one of my tour guides that said one class had 60/100 student come off the wait-list. There's still time!!

Also remember people are holding the acceptances seeing if other schools give them good financial aid. Some people taken at UMASS might want to be in another city at a private school, and if that school gives good money, they might drop the umass offer.

All in all...stay positive!!!
