Are you using IE? Try another computer. My computer won't let me check it with Netscape so I have to check it from my friend's comp.

ditto diosa's point on the browser incompatibility issue. i have to check it on IE and not firefox.

also, they make you change your password every so many months. if you cant log in on different browser, may want to give them a call and see if your password has expired.

anyone had any experiences/results from writing LOI to this school?

if the past is any indicator of timing of adcom meetings, there is probably one today, but that is just a guess...anyone have any more info.? this is the third thursday of the month, but i don't know if that fomula was ever validated. guess we'll find out soon...or not.

how quickly do you know after the adcom meeting?

Anyone apply for early admission here?

If so, when do you interview and when do you find out about acceptance?

I'll be applying this summer (2006). UMass is my first choice, so I'd love to know ASAP if I got in there!

Thanks 🙂

Seems like people here who've gotten in found out by checking their status on line on a Friday, then got a letter some time early the following week?

But if you aren't accepted or you are wait listed you don't hear anything.

Can someone please post the secondary application link so that I can check my status (and drive myself crazy). I got a new email account last fall, and I didn't realize that they automatically deleted emails that were more than 1 month old. I searched the forums but couldn't find it. Thanks a bunch!!!

I applied early decision. Was interviewed in the middle of Sept., found out I was accepted by the end of Sept. (Sept. 28th I think).

so, it is too early to gather that since no one has posted saying they got an acceptance today that there was no meeting yesterday?? or have they just not posted online yet... If anybody has info. to the contrary, please share...

I am going to assume that the people (if there are any) that got accepted are out partying, rather than spending their time posting here.

A friend called UMASS admissions to see if there was a meeting yesterday, but, the person who answered said they were not allowed to give out that information.

yeah, you definitely make a decent point. posting is more for those who are waiting, not those who already know the outcome, but hey, people have posted acceptances in the past, so might as well ask the question.

Either that, or we're all waitlisted/rejected... 🙁

Well if you found out today, (DID YOU?) that means 3 adcom meetings have gone on since my interview, so probably not a good thing for me... 🙁
But congratulations to you!

Yeah, the list seems pretty good. I only met two students on my interview and they both seemed bright and motivated but at the same time very down to earth and approachable. I'm not sure how orthodoc40 was able to meet enough people to discover the student body was immature and I'm not sure what high-schoolish means. Let me know.
Sure - well just to add, I did say "seemed" - in order to leave room that I certainly couldn't know this from the time spent with people there. One of our guides was incredibly just - young. I don't really know how to describe that for you, but the other candidates who were interviewing with me mostly agreed when I asked if it was just me or if that was their impression, too. On our tour, we were stopped in the student lounge & there were lots of current students in there gathered in groups together, a little cliquey looking. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves - but it all just felt high schoolish. Everyone looking at the "interviewees", whispering, giggling - c'mon! Hey, its just the sense I got there. I'm just one person. I'm not sure anything I can write here will explain what I meant, but well, I tried...It wasn't the main impression I got - just part of it.

People also had a lot of enthusiasm and our questions were well answered & thoughtfully answered - by our other guide. And like you said, they seemed down to earth, and approachable.

As a current first-year student, I'd like to emphasize the fact that despite the appearance of people gathered in the lounge, the students here are some of the most open, least-cliquey people that I've ever interacted with. Obviously, anywhere you go, you'll tend to hang out with certain people, and class personalities can change from year to year, but I (and I dare say most of my peers) feel comfortable hanging out with pretty much anyone in our year.

In terms of immaturity, I'm an older student, and yes, there is a somewhat of a difference between those that have just graduated and those that have taken some time off. All I can say is that I wouldn't let your impressions from the lounge be your sole take-away for the collective personalities here. On the whole, almost everyone is friendly, approachable, and personable.

Finally, it's been a LONG time since I've logged on to StudentDoctor - I was here last year trying to decide between UMass and a number of other schools, so I just want to make a plug for UMass. The "positives" that were listed in a previous post were all true, and apart from the cliqueyness, I'll admit that the negatives were true as well: Worcester's just not the most exciting place to be. However, the education here is amazing, and for the price, it's damn-near unbeatable. If accepted, I'd urge all of you to give UMass serious consideration.

If there are questions, feel free to PM me. I'll give you my honest impressions.

Hey, Orthodoc, hang it there. I interviewed in late September and wasnt accepted until the late Jan meeting or roughly about the 4th adcom meeting after my interview.

It really does seem pretty random when we come up for consideration. Know that doesnt help the waiting at all, but here's hoping #4 is lucky for you too next month!

Wow - that is some encouraging news. Thanks for talking me off the ledge! 🙂

Long time reader, first time poster... Just wanted to let everyone know to keep hope while waiting to hear back from UMASS. I interviewed way back in mid-October and just received an acceptance today. UMASS' review process just takes a while, so be patient(which I know from experience is impossible!) and keep hope! 😀

Finally that online page changed and I am accepted, that was incredible. I interviewed 2 weeks ago also and wasn't expecting anything until end of March seeing how they have a reputation of being slow...all I can say is that there's nothing logical about the whole medical school process so hang in there and good luck to all!! 🙂

Do you think rejections will be going out now to those of us that UMASS adamently decided against in Friday's meeting?

Should I begin to dread the arrival of the mail man (as if i didnt already)?

Adamently deciding against you??? Unless you were completely offensive during your interview or extremely poorly qualified, I dont think you're going to be "adamently rejected" from UMass. I dont interview until the 14th of march, so you've got a few more adcom meetings to go through...and then there's the waitlist

Actually, my interview didnt go so well. They also messed up my mcat scores, they were four points lower than my actual scores in their People Soft system. I was a bit upset about that. I am not too positive.

Any acceptances today?

It seemed for awhile that UMASS was following a somewhat regular timetable of admitting interviewees - I figured that many November and some Dec interviewees would hear by now. Based on recent posts though I don't know what they are doing. I'm giving up predicting adcom meetings!

Well, there was an adcom meeting last week...so, I doubt there was one yesterday. My status has not changed. I have been hoping though.

has anyone else been waiting since December? I had my interview early Dec... no word yet.

I've pretty much given up on UMass. If they can't decide to accept me after 3 committee meetings, it seems unlikely much will change. Sure, it is possible, and I'll keep a small glimmer of hope for it, but likely? Not really!

If the committee met last week, they probably didn't meet this week - but who knows?

HEY! I got some great news this morning via Email - I finally got an interview!!! Its scheduled for march 22nd. So if you are still waiting for one there is hope!!

I feel that the rate of acceptances has slowed down. I'm basing this only on the number of "I've been accepted" posts on SDN, and being lazy, using only memory to roughly gauge the number. I don't feel that enough people were admitted in the last meeting to deem it a "true meeting". And the timing was weird too...some people were admitted only two weeks after interviewing. (Congrats for those that got in!)

So, don't panic about UMASS just yet. They take their sweet time because they can. Most people who are accepted will go there. Combine that with a rolling admissions policy and you get stuck with a dragged out decision process.

Sure, it's true.
But in my situation, they are basically forcing me to retake the MCAT now. I just can't wait & hope to hear from them but not get prepared for a retake.

Me too!

this was not the timetable i hoped for

I was initially rejected due to out of state concerns, then after filling my taxes for the last five years with them I was told that I would be concidered (mid febuary)

Got the interview notice soon thereafter. Hopefully a few spots are left, It would be a shame to go through that rigemerol to interview for a class thats already set. so chins up!

We need to keep this UMASS thread alive.

Any news? Word on the next adcom meeting? Two weeks would be my guess.

Have there been any rejections yet?

Have a nice weekend everyone.

I wouldn't call the UMASS class "set" even if it's full. This is b/c they can ONLY have 100 ppl holding acceptances at one time. They cannot send out additional acceptances like most schools b/c they are not allowed to over fill the class due to state requirements. They end up having a lot of waitlist movement around May 15th (they told us that they take ~50 off the waitlist every year, which is a lot when you consider that UMASS only interviews about 300 people and at least 100 get in initially).

so....here we go again. probably looking at another admission committee meeting end of this week. I interviewed back on 11/1 and nothing yet, so getting kind of nervous about my chances now, but keeping the faith. Does anybody have any inside info. on how many acceptances have been dished out? it really does not seem like that many to this point, and considering only about 50% of those accept them, is it fair to say there are still plenty of acceptances/waitlist acceptances coming in the next couple months? or am i just simply being overly optimistic? who has thoughts or info?

ok i have nothing of importance to add, but i figure i would make you feel better by saying that i'm waiting too. i have no idea where they're at in terms of filling up the class. i'm willing to bet they're getting near the end tho, since it's march, and from the forums last year, waitlist notices come out in april and rejections in may. then again, there are more interviews this week and next week so who knows?

I'm interviewing tomorrow!!!! From what I've heard, the class should have a few spaces left. Since they are limited to 100 spaces, they dont overfill early like the private schools and they keep a wait list of about 100 kids. Last year they took about half of their class off of the WL, and there will be significant movement from May 15th til about mid July. A close friend of mine got in last june off the WL, so dont give up hope. 😀

anybody know if there is an adcom meeting today? LJDHC05, did they tell you anything regarding spaces left, etc. regarding the incoming class? As one who interviewed a while ago, I am curious as to where they are in the process. And I guess they are done interviewing now, so maybe more action soon to come (heopfully!)
