Hey all. Thanks for the well wishes today. The interview was really relaxed and my interviewers were really cool. Right when I got there, the first question they asked me was if I posted on SDN and if my name there was redwings. I thought oh crap, they know its me. But they just said they sometimes check on the site to see what people are talking about and thinking.

So now begins the waiting game. I really loved the school and all the people I met were awesome. So keep your fingers crossed for me. Thanks again everyone.

😱 😱 :wow: :wow:

Holy crap! What a way to start an interview!

BTW: is it pretty in the snow? I saw it in September when the ground was absolutely COVERED with acorns. 😀

That is great to hear that they recognize you on SDN.

Did you tell them Docbill sais hi... thats works everytime?

Who is reading SDN???? I would like to know. L or J???

Truth be known, I was going to see if I could read name tags and see if anyone was named Rob. I was going to introduce myself, but then chickened out. Didn't want to freak you out.

BIG ouch. I have a question for current students: Do any of you know of students at UNECOM that received the National Health Service Corps scholarship? They have a loan repayment program as well. I've been looking into it and I am interested, but I wanted to hear from anyone who has applied/gotten it. Also, I was wondering if any of you knew anyone who has taken out the primary care loans that UNE advertises on their financial aid site.

Thanks!

Wook, you should have come over. I was the guy in the suit at the death and dying lecture, in biochem and at the cardio lecture. I was hanging out with Janelle and Kristina for most of the afternoon. Overall, the day went really well I thought. When I say that they asked me if I was redwings on SDN, it was when I was first checking in, not during the interview. It was a woman but I dont know if it was Lisa. ShyRem, the campus is beautiful. We had gotten about 6 inches of snow the day before so it was pretty nice. Although it was a little icy, it was still great. We had a big group interviewing too. 12 people, for about 4 or 5 of us it was our first interview, and most of the others already had a few acceptances. I really felt pretty good coming out of the interview. I was able to talk about why I wanted to come to UNE, about my fellowship and what I learned from it and quite a few other topics. I actually think I was overprepared, but it was all good. So now is the hardest part, the waiting game. Hope that everyone is well, and thanks again to you all for your support. Take care.
-Rob

Rob.. it sounded like it went well. Good for you.
I am confident that you will get what you want at the end.

Nice snow. This winter in Toronto, we had very little snow and actualy really gentel winter. Some times it was like 40-50'F. Not complaining at ALLLL.

Anyway keep us updated.

Thanks so much for continuing to be a resource.🙂 I have looked into this scholarship in greater detail and I am not really sure that it is for me. I think that I might hold off for at least a year or two and see if I choose to apply then; one of the main reasons is because I want the freedom to choose a non-primary care specialty if that is where my main interests lie- which is exactly why the above link is so helpful. If the NHSC scholar changes their mind, they incur MAJOR fees, and it states right on the website that you are likely to pay back THREE times as much as you borrow.

Thank you 🙂

I see how it is...just cuz I'm slow to notice we actually had a thread set up in this forum I got overlooked from the official acceptance thread. I was accepted back in November. Interviewed first day of interviews in September. Made the $500 and $1000 deposits and am raring to go! 🙄

Whoa, thas crazy. I guess its cool to know they actually check SDN. I hope they didn't see the posts I had made about my displeasures in their new admissions decision policies...hmmmmm....maybe that is why I didn't hear until November? Ah well, I'm accepted and very happy! It still hasn't really sunk in yet. Anyone else feel the same way? I have this inkling that it will not really hit me until I am sitting there at orientation with all of you.
😎

Fozzie, I absolutely agree with you. Hasn't sunk in here either. Just doesn't seem quite real - like it's just another bill to pay. I think it feels like that because I haven't gotten anything from the school yet (except the Jan. News thing). It just doesn't feel like anything has happened.

Except my house is half painted and we just ordered new carpet. 🙂

So how much more do you have to accomplish to get your house ready for sale?
When are you planning to head east? The wife and I are aiming for late May/early June time frame.
My friend lives right in Biddeford Pool. Would love to live there. Just need her to hook us up with some good info about places to rent. If not there, hopefully somewhere real close by to campus and the ocean.

There are a ton of incredible places to rent right by the ocean. I went to college at UNE before Med school and I lived right on the water for several years. The only problem is that most of the good places are seasonal rentals because they fetch $1000-$2000 a WEEK durring the summer. The trick is finding a year round rental. There are some of those in biddeford pool... but not a lot and they go quick.

I love the Biddeford Pool area. My friend has lived there since she started in 2004. I know of a couple other people in her class that live right down the road from campus on Hills Beach road. Hopefully I can snag one of their places this summer. We'll see. Thanks again for the information.
👍

Oh, fozzie, we have yet siding on the house, the new carpet (should be in late feb.), finish painting the house, lay laminate flooring in hall, stairs, and entryway. Trim boards, caulk the tile in the kitchen. That oughta do it.

We're looking at moving in mid-late June, I think. Hoping to buy rather than rent - a family of 4 is really almost cheaper to buy a house than rent. But we'll see.

If I were closer I'd help you all out with prepping the house for sale. I like that sort of labor. I agree, purchasing is much more feasible than renting in your situation. Considering what you and I have been hearing from others already up there in Biddeford and also the listings I've found online, I think we'll both have success with finding wicked nice places to live.

Another note, I was hoping we'd have more people from our class into this forum. Well, it is still early in the year.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Guys.. thought I would show you my new Aftar.

Hi Guys, Again.. since I have a spify new suit (see aftar)

I was wondering when the second fee is due.

Is it possible to make a payment on line through UNE website. Not pipeline, but the other one, where you can find your registration etc... Cause I once saw that option to make payment with visa.

I guess present students will know more about this..... ORRR one of the staff members on SDN.. hint hint

The second fee is due within 60 days of the first payment. So if you paid by 12/15 (as I did), your second fee is due by 2/13. For example, they received my first deposit on 12/14 (confirmed by email). Lisa told me in that same email that my second deposit would be due by 2/12 (60 days after 12/14).

ohhh so soonnnn wowo..
Thanks for the update.

How about online visa payments?

Hey BA,
Love the suit. I've had the worst couple days. Friday on my way to work in my new "used" car I hit a patch of black ice, lost control, became a spinning top on the highway, slammed into the guard rail and ricocheted off into a tractor trailer. I of course I do not recall any of this, I was told this is what had happened. My new car is totaled. Thankfully no one else was involved or injured and I'm still alive. Course, I do not remember much of anything from the past few days. Concussions are not fun, remember that! Whiplash is also not a fun thing. wait...why am I on here? oh crap, I guess I should go eat something...or did I already eat? hmmmm 🙁

Oh, fozzie... at least you weren't hurt badly. Be aware, tho, that small effects from concussions can last quite a while, so be patient. My sister got one from a car accident and the effects have lasted now 6 months. Getting better, but she is still sleeping a lot, still very tired, still having a little trouble thinking clearly.

Hey man,

sorry to hear about your car accident. BUT glad to hear that you are okay. Cars have little value.. compared to body and damaged non-OMT treatable organs (head.. brain... etc... etc...)

Just take it easy and try not to have any bad dreams or regrets.

I had a small accident because of the snow about 4 years ago and it scared the crap out me for years. Especially driving in the snow. Now WHEN I drive, I don't have a car cause I live in the city, I am very careful.

Take it easy and try to get over.

BA

Hope you are really okay, Fozzie.

And if anyone is familiar with Seinfeild (think of Elaine singing this).... Get well, get well soon, I hope you'll be okay... 😉

Hey, thanks, I needed the laugh! 😀
I'm trying to attach photos of what used to be a honda civic. I still do not remember anything that happened. I guess it is best that way.

i've been to a number of car accidents and that is really smashed! I'm glad you turned out ok... if you're still having any pain or other problems once school starts you should try to get in to see one of the OMM fellows next fall. You'll be able to be seen for free... btw, what type of car "was" that? looks like maybe a honda or nissan, can't quite tell...

I'm still surprised I came away from that accident with a concussion and a few scrapes and bruises. It was a 2002 Honda Civic LX.

Fozzie,

Crazy man. Car accidents scare me. I have never been in one, but I have seen a lot of people get messed up pretty bad because of them. Just this winter, I tapped the breaks and pulled a 720 on the middle of the highway with a 18-wheeler coming on strong. Just went into the ditch on the side of the road though. Glad you arent really that bad off though. A concussion isnt much when it could have been so much worse.

So I think the adcom met this past weekend. So my fate as a member of the class of 2010 has been determined. Keep your fingers crossed everyone. Take care.
-Rob

Glad you're okay, Fozzie! Someone must have been looking out for you. 🙂

Eh the countdown is on to get money together for the second deposit... anyone sent it in yet? I probably should just get it over with. 😛

Rob,
I look forward to hearing good news from you on this forum as soon as you receive your letter of acceptance from UNE! :luck: 👍

swtcat,
Someone was looking out for me! I am still surprised at this whole situation. As for the deposits, I sent my second deposit out earlier this month. I'm just waiting for the first real round of information to roll in.

Thanks for your concerns everyone!

Just be thankful you are alright. My car got totaled last year over christmas break. It was a 97 taurus, but had only 60k and ran like a tank. It was paid off and would have lasted til the end of med school. Some guy spun out and hit me. But look on the bright side, if your like me, new car shopping is fun!

Hey Steve:
Very sorry to hear about your accident...glad to hear you're OK 🙂 . My dad actually was killed in a car wreck in the late 80's...so as such I drive like an old man since the possibility scares the hell out of me, but it really can happen to anyone....especially with black ice.

I was actually hit a while back by a pregnant woman who was drunk (I was more pissed at that than her hitting me...). But alas, she was driving a Dodge Neon, and I was in my 2-ton 1990 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Wagon...needless to say I was fine...but again, you never know.

Well best wishes for a speedy recovery...we'll be back up at UNECOM in less than 6 months, so get well soon!!!

Best regards,

Ryan.

UNECOM Class of 2010

I just wanted to say hello to everyone! I was originally supposed to interview at UNECOM today but it was rescheduled due to the storm that had been forecasted. I had an internship in an OMT clinic this past summer working with graduates of UNE and an associate facult member. I was EXTREMELY impressed with the doctors that this institution has shaped over recent years. I am holding my seat at AZCOM but will hopefully be with all of you once August 2006 hits!!

Ryan, Sorry to hear that about your padre and your accident with the drunken pregnant lady. I think I'd be more angered at her drinking as well in that situation. I think my next vehicle will be a Sherman Tank or something similar. Don't know what is out there with the armor plating options and what not, just as long as it has two-way radio and A/C (translation, flip down blastshielding).
All kidding aside, I will be truly able to relate to future patients with concussions or surviving an accident where someone of a higher power was truly looking out for me arse. It still boggles my mind I was actually in that car I posted pictures of. I'm feeling a bit better. Instead of a big dark blur, I'm feeling a big white blur.
Ooooookay, now that I've rambled, I'll say, best of luck to you SarahJC, the interviews at UNE are very chill and the students are top notch. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Any other 2010'ers out there?!
-Cheers,

It "has no record" matching my SSN and DOB (therefore, no ID number was given to me). Do we have to wait until the second deposit is paid or something?

BTW... I don't know if you have to have your second deposit to have access.

Was anyone else of the class of 2010 got access or just I?

Maybe cause I defered.
