University of British Columbia Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
BUT the website says "We begin making admission offers within 10 days following the completion of all interviews."

🙁

Do you think they mean 10 days or 10 business days?
10 days = this Wednesday. If it's 10 business days, then we'll know by next Monday, the latest.

Then again, maybe they just didn't update the website to reflect this year's increased number of seats.

Good point. I'm guessing 10 business days...

I think it meant just general days. Which would fit the pattern of previous years where it's been less than 10 days.

But nooooooo not for us of course. 👎

Does anyone know what time the office is open till? Should be stop waiting for today and focus on tomorrow?

No hope of getting the news today. Let us begin clicking like madmen again tomorrow morning.

I think Margaret is a troll. She probably has us ranked but she won't tell us until she is satisfied with our suffering :meanie:

K it's after 4.

We're done. 🙁

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Well I just came home from work and checked my email and theres Nothing form UBC. Sigh....Still sketching about checking the email though.

And to those who think we have a 64-70% odds, ummmm you're dreaming.

By interview they make sure you have 50/50. Max 56% (400 interview) but not more. My 2 cents!!!

Odds could be anywhere between 56-64%. Unless they lied to us and interviewed 450 students to give us 50/50 odds of getting in. And if you consider roughly 10 people rejecting the offer for whatever reason, we have 59-67% chance of making it.

I don't know why they'd email us saying we will be sending out ~350 interview invitations and ~225 offers, if they were planning on interviewing 450.

Alright new proposal: they said 350 interviewed for 224 spots with possibly 234 offers made out. Then they would possibly waitlist 30 ish (with upper and lower waitlist ie. 15/15). Which means...

offer odds 234/350=67%
offer+waitlist (lower) =(234+15)/350=71%
offer+waitlist (upper)= (234+30)/350=75%

I know UofT makes 270 offers for 240 seats and puts 80 on waitlist with upper/lower of 40/40. So I'm making a fair assumption with this logic.

Again my 2 cents!!

quick, any more possible calculations we can make? any more probable timelines we can presume?! any more percentages pertaining to anything at all??

Can a current UBC pharmacy student share what goes on in the white coat ceremony? 🙂

..........and the waiting game starts over! Hope you all have a great day ~~

i realllly doubt it'll come out today

oh cool, i'm a 2+ year member now, why am i not thrilled about this..

My letter actually said 400 interview invitations. Are you sure yours says 350? Are you reading the letter they sent out in February?

edit: Nevermind, I found the one they sent out later that does say 350.

Okay... cause mac mail deleted all my emails before may. 🙁

Buttt yeah I don't remember the 400 email. I'm still gonna hope for 350 cause that's more recent.

During April and May:

  • Your Pharmacy application and reference letters are read and scored.
  • Your Pharmacy admissions average is calculated, by the Undergraduate Admissions Office in Enrolment Services.
  • Your PCAT score is matched with your application and recorded.
  • And, finally, based on these criteria, all applications are ranked, and approximately 350 applicants will be shortlisted for the interview process

Thanks for posting that!

And so they have all that done. So all they have to do is take the interview scores, input them in their acceptance formula and there it is.

That shouldn't take this long!

Agreed! If anything, it should only have taken a day or so more to evaluate the borderline cases. It's been 6 business days! Maybe it'll come out today. 😀

it's actually more complicated than simply putting the scores in, it turns out that they still deliberate, not just for borderline cases, but for every case

and i'm sure they double check everything again before sending the emails

Makes me feel less crazy knowing I'm not the only one who's waiting at their computer until 4.

Thanks for answering, but would it be open for 2nd year classes in September 2012?

The answer is yes

It's projected to be completed and ready to run by then. The government is really pushing construction since there isnt enough space for 225 students in WOOD6, the pharmacy lecture hall

Incoming 1st years will be the guinea pigs to internet-based lectures, where you guys sit in a room and they broadcast you the lecture 😛
I am hoping I enjoy the new building as soon as possible.

Chances are great for you guys. I mean, extra 75 seats....

If anyone needs 1st year books in advance after they get accepted, I am selling them for a good price =D

I was just wondering if anyone here is from UBC and successfully applied to UT, meaning u had all the proper courses. If I dont get in I'm gonna try and satisfy their academic requirements next year and i wanna make sure i register for the proper 2nd year courses. Thanks!

Yeah, just got into UofT this year.

For second year courses...

Chem requirement... I took 233, 235, and 205.

Bio requirement... I took 200.

For Biochem requirement... I took Biol 201.

Statistics requirement... I took Stat 200.

Then humanities... I just took a 6 credit language course... I don't think they're too strict on that.

I'm not sure which of those classes they actually counted for the prereqs (the biology ones specifically). I was worried that I didn't have enough ochem for their requirements but I put chem 123, 233, 235, and it all worked out.
