I just got home from a weekend trip and my letter of acceptance was waiting! It was sent out March 12th, so they sent it out before the last interview even! Woo-hoo in-state tuition!

Yup, I also attend University of Colorado at Denver.

I'm from out of state, and I stayed at The Curtis Hotel when I went to interview. The concierge told me that floors 16+ of that Hotel are actually used as dorms for students at the University of Colorado at Denver...is that true?

No clue, I live off campus. The dorms just opened last semester and I don't know anyone who lives in them. Is the Curtis Hotel downtown near the 16th street mall? I want to say there might be dorms in that area.

Very difficult to answer this since next year they are opening their new campus down at the old Fitzsimons base. We all interviewed at the 9th and Colorado location where the old building is. You will be though on a completely brand new campus so everything should be state of the art.

The surrounding environment of the new facility isn't the best. It's off of a street called Colfax that is considered the "dangerous" area of Denver. I've known people who work at the hospital associated with the new campus and they've had their cars broken into. Hopefully though the new hospital, schools, and also private research industry will bring some money to that area of Colfax and improve it. There's another area near by called Stapleton that's building new housing communities and apartments and that should help also.

The members of the faculty that I met during my interview all came across as friendly. They mentioned something about a mentor program where you can have a faculty member mentor you and help you through out your time with CU which sounds awesome since that could get you some good work related contact when you graduate.

I don't think there are any dorms planned. My husband and I are planning on buying a house in Parker so I'll have a straight shot up 225 to the campus. All of the interstates are a mess in the morning but I'm planning on waking up early, leaving early, and studying on campus before class. You could live in Aurora but be careful... some of the apartments look liveable but they're slums (I made that mistake when I first moved here). Use apartmentratings.com or I'd be more than happy to let you know if I know about a specific apartment complex. Definitely do not live anywhere near Colfax.

There is currently no student housing and I would be very surprised if they build any. They do have an office to help you find off campus housing and a list of some apartments for rent. But its basically a free for all.

Cumulative GPA: 3.65
Science GPA: ~3.7

No pharmacy experience and the only extracurriculars I listed was volunteering for an organization working to get equal rights for same sex couples and doing some improv comedy.

The people on the admissions committee probably personally knew at least two out of three of the professors who wrote my letters of recommendation. Also my GPA is skewed since at UCD I have a 3.97 after three years, and I have one year back six years ago that drags things down.

I'm sure you did just fine! The interviewer probably had to ask tougher questions just to make sure you can articulate your answers well about all sorts of issues. I honestly don't think what you said actually mattered -- just how you said it. In other words, if you thought the content of your answers was mediocre or even poor, but you were still able to answer using clear language and proper grammar, you probably scored very well.

I know it's hard to do, but just relax and think positvely. Good luck! 🙂

I GOT IN! This is probably the greatest day of my life. Not only did I get into pharmacy school, but i recieved my tax return today as well. I think I am going to try my luck at the lottery now.

Stats:

Interview: February 12

Science G.P.A. : 3.71

Overall G.P.A : 3.65

out of state student, did all my coursework at community college, 1 year experience as a Certified Tech, no E.C's, Member of Phi theta kappa (Honor society for two year colleges) and national deans list.

Thanks for your support! I am really worried. But, I gave it what i got, there were no preparation for it, it was all out of the blue questions.

Congrats to all that are accepted. I am excited for you, but worried for my chance. I wonder if i hadn't have to have the 2nd interview would I hear from them yet?

I honestly did not think my interview went that well. I am a native speaker but I thought I sounded like an idiot. I was so nervous that my mouth went completely dry, which caused me to stumble over some words. I did ask quite a few questions and thought I did excellent in the group activity.

-Currently attending Arizona State University
-Nearly a year of pharmacy experience (certified just recently)
-Hospital experience (shadowing in the surgical ICU at the Maricopa Medical Center).
-My interview went extremely well (I actually interviewed with a faculty member that I had exchanged a few e-mails with prior to the interview (she is an important member of the geriatric program at UC and that is a huge interest to me... it was kind of like fate).

I just want to let everyone know that I was at my wits-end with this entire process. It felt like I was working so hard and not really seeing any substantial results. This is my second time applying so determination definitely played a key role in my acceptance. For those who are non-native english speakers, I do speak english as my primary language. To anyone who was in my boat, keep on keepin' on.

As far as I know, yes they allow it. Last summer I had someone in my OChem II lab who was starting at UCHSC that August. I'd call them though, just to confirm it. Better to be safe.

yes they do. i emailed them earlier this yr before applying and beverly said it's ok if you're an "outstanding candidate." since you're already accepted, i guess that applies to you 😀

Seriously? I thought they were fairly inexpensive. 2 bedroom appt for 500-600 dollars to split two ways? I guess I am comparing it to Henderson, Nevada where it is 900-1100 per month for 2 bedroom! I don't know exactly where the new campus is. Does anyone know the zipcode?

you have nothing to worry about. your stats and credentials are better than most of the ones who have been accepted. i think you're in GREAT shape 👍 👍

maybe you're out of state or a non-native speaker or maybe they pull files randomly.

no, i just had my 2nd interview last friday so that's kind of soon. and i'm sure there are some non-native speakers in the march 14 interview so i expect it to be late march or early april.

and you called them to ask when the people w/ 2nd interviews gonna hear? if so, thanks for calling 👍

I'd hold off on finding an apartment for a little while. Its still not very clear when classes will be moving out to the new campus. The zipcode for the 9th ave campus is 80262. Housing around the 9th ave campus isn't too bad. I live in a one bedroom 4 blocks from campus and pay 585 w/parking. The housing that is real close to the new campus isn't really somewhere you want to live. Its still a rather sketch part of town. Some of the semi close areas are nice, but expensive (ie: stapleton, lowry).
