Interview invite for February 4th in San Francisco!

Members don't see this ad.

Got an invite for January 15th in Edinburgh. Not to say I am not grateful but I live in Canada near the border and had requested a New York interview day.. I hope they allow me to change for New York and save me the couple hundred dollars!

I'm sure if you email them and let them know how far you live and how much easier NY would be for you they will understand!

Does anyone know if they're still sending out interview invites? I haven't heard anything and was curious if this means a rejection or if they're just rolling them out in several batches... (applied for a San Francisco interview)

Digging through threads from previous years, it seems like they may send out invites over the course of weeks. It's really hard to find information on how spread out it is.

Does anyone know when they make decisions? If interviews are in Feb when should we expect to hear back about acceptance/rejection?

Edit: they emailed us that they would get decisions out as close to right after the interviews as possible

What did you guys learn from your phone calls with a student? I didn't get to speak with the student who called me because she could hear I was busy when she called and she said she would call back in an hour but I never got another call.

That sucks you didn't get to talk.
The answers I wanted:
Financial aid may offer a lot of federal loans. While the school doesn't have many "Adulting in Scotland for Dummies" resources, the class kind of gives each other advice on setting up bank accounts and other logistics. There is a portal for finding EMS, which doesn't necessarily have to be started this summer before entering. Don't overpack qhen moving.
They are really friendly if you have further questions you want to email.
It was hard for me to think of questions. Most of mine would be about moving logistics, so things I'd run into a few months from now.

Is anyone able to offer stats who got interviews? I got into glasgow and I have a fairly good GPA at 3.6 with lots of clinical vet experience as well as farm experience so I'm just a little confused.

Did you get rejected or you just haven't heard yet? I think they might send things in batches? You could also ask for a review, I'm not sure they give them out but I find the admissions team is very responsive to any message i send them.

I did hear back a little over two weeks ago and got a rejection letter. I just emailed someone on the admissions team and asked for a review, I hope I'm able to get one. Im thinking its because there were two other people who applied from the same university as me who were offered interviews but I cant be sure. Academics-wise I was very similar to them but I had a lot more vet experience than one (this person had only shadowed) and I have farm experience as well. My application seems pretty competitive in comparison so I'm just confused overall. But thank you this is very helpful!

Do you know the best email to use to contact their admissions team?

A review is definitely worth your while. I know that the university has a particular partnership with the university I went to, so maybe they are more likely to accept someone from my university and more specifically my program (they just started a program where after two years you can go directly into bvetmed at edinburgh if you complete the program I was in with decent grades). You should definitely check though because I'm not sure they limit the number of spots per university, I think everyone is supposed to be judge based on application. From what you're saying if you're comparing your apps to others and feel you should have had a leg up on them, I would consider checking back through VMCAS and seeing if you wrote anything that may have raised red flags? It does seem strange though..

The email I heard back from quickly was: [email protected]

Thank you for your help i'll do that!

Also! I just found this on the update admissions web page. It sounds like they are more lenient with Canadian students grade wise... They only mention GPA for US students? I am canadian so i'm not sure if this was a factor..

"Canadian applicants should have gained high grades in the science subjects throughout their first degree. US applicants should have an overall minimum grade point average of 3.4 (4-point scale), with greater than 3.0 in completed science courses."

Does anyone know the stats on the amount of interviews they offer internationals vs number of spots they have?

I honestly love how much information the school provides for prospective students. Newsletters, easy to navigate website, the call with the student. It feels like they genuinely care about the applicant beyond statistics. My IS school has a fairly okay website, but its student outreach and support is nothing compared to this. I really hope interviews go well.

Agree with that! They also offered up a contact for additional questions ahead of the interview and have been consistently providing info. Much more communicative than many other schools.

So excited to finally be packing for my Edinburgh interview! Flying to San Francisco in 24 hours. This school is definitely my 1st choice

Good luck!!! Can I ask why Edinburgh is your 1st choice over your acceptance to Washington? Isn't Washington your IS? Just curious! I don't mean to pry!

I like the culture in Edinburgh a lot more. I can go anywhere in the world with this degree. Having lived in Pullman for undergrad, and particularly during the summer, it's not really someplace I want to be for another four years. Besides football, there isn't a lot else to do in the area. People tend to be a bit cliquey, as well.

Any suggestions on how to prepare for the interview?
Honestly. Just relax and enjoy it. Nothing you can do to prepare. Its all based on how you view the stations and interpret them. The 80 min whip by!

I will have a small duffel with me from my travels over to the US at the interview, does anyone know if there will be somewhere I can leave my things?

Yep, they're pretty nice about it and they will have a spot for it during the interview, after presentations

thank you! don't know if this question is ok to ask given confidentiality, but would you be able to tell me if the interviewers converse with you or is it more of a monologue-style (i've had very different styles of mmis so far in terms of having an actual dialogue). but please feel free to ignore me if you think that's crossing the confidentiality agreement, i'm just not too sure

It's definitely more back and forth than traditional interview. Time flies

Did they say around when they will give decisions? I know the last interview is on the 19th

Looking at the website, it seems like the four year program interviews could be held on any day labeled as graduate/international. So I think today is the last day for 4-year interviews? But on my interview day last week, there were also international applicants to the five year.
Looking at last year's thread, people knew by mid-late February, assuming they posted the day they knew. I was just told they'd be in touch soon.

I really hope they do. Waiting an entire weekend for results will be painful.

Anybody else obsessively checking their email?

Also. For those that are Canadian on here, what banks are you dealing with for loans? Im struggling to convince one Ill come back to Canada and pay it back.

Didn't apply to Edinburgh but somehow ended up on this thread. I'm also Canadian (Ontario), planning on going to Dublin and am having the same issues with banks atm! Scotiabank to my knowledge stopped giving professional line of credits to international students because none of the medical students come back to Canada. But they don't realize how AVMA accreditedation makes that different for us vet kids 🙁.
Let me know if you find any banks or other institutions that gives loans this large aha!

Hey! Glad to know Im not the only one. Im currently negotiating a student line of credit with cibc of around 120 000 and begging my aunt to be a cosignor due to my parents poor credit history. Im also hoping I can get my max student loan amount from the BC and Fed gov of around 110 000. Between those 2, some personal savings and hoepfully working 10hrs a week....maybe I can pull this off
I figure if I can atleast get to year 4, I could probably convince another bank to lend me some more.
Meanwhile I am writing a letter to CBC exposing what a hard deal we canandian pre vet students face.

110 000 from federal and BC :0 I wish I could get that much from ON + Federal student loans but we've gone through provincial student loan cuts in the past few years. I'm also currently looking at getting a student LOC with CIBC but its all just such a long process.

It is! Look into TD as well. CIBC has a dumb new rule only preexisting clients can cosign.

So does anyone have any idea what housing is like? I’m definitely not going to live in dorms so I’m just reaching out to see what other students are looking at!

I was accepted into the 4 year program but I'm worried because the conditional offer is a B or better in physics. Does anyone know if the B or better mean B- or better or B or better?
