University of Florida c/o 2024 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It’s supposed to be around 45 minutes. Mine extended just around an hour because I was having some decent convos with my interviewers.

Just relax, the interview is super chill. All easy conversations. Have fun and enjoy UF. It’s a beautiful area.

Hi everyone!

I haven't posted in a while (just working through prereqs, working, etc.), but always enjoy this site and community. I definitely troll the successful applicant stats at colleges I'm interested in attending (what better way to increase anxiety, right? lol), but am confused by one thing. When looking at University of Florida's application stats, they list an applicant pool number, and then the packet review outcome numbers (offered interviews vs. not offered interviews vs. declined interviews). Is it safe to assume that applicants that are not included in these numbers (packet review outcomes) did not meet the requirements to have their packet reviewed? This would mean over 400 OOS applicants didn't meet the file review requirements. I must be analyzing this wrong. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks everyone!

From their website it sounds like they rank academically and then make cuts before packet review.

Thank you so much!!

Does anyone know how formal the meet and greet is? I’m itching to get out of these clothes

My tour guides there said that last year no one got out of the formal clothes so don’t dress comfortable is what she told me! Luckily my interview was one of the first so I had a free time period to get out of them

Hi! I applied here this cycle and was ultimately denied but, I did attend the zoom application review session. This cycle quite a bit more packets were reviewed compared to the class of 2023 cycle. They are trying to become more holistic in their review of applicants. From the zoom workshop it seemed as if only the bottom 25% did not move onto packet review, which means they reviewed quite a bit more packets this year, as they also had an increase in applicants.

I wonder how many OOS people were interviewed... Trying to see what the chances are after interviewing

If I’m remembering correctly I think they interviewed over 350 applicants. I’m just not sure the percentage that was OOS.

do you guys think applicants who were initially picked have better chances than those pulled off the waitlist? (assuming they didn't completely tank their interviews)

also do they give more consideration to applicants who have applied before in the past?

I don’t think it matters if you were on the waitlist or not. During our debriefing we were told that our initial application essentially isn’t considered anymore once we make it to the interview stage.

Hey! I’m an OOS student and sadly I had no in state school. Florida has the cheapest OOS tuition out of all the schools I had been accepted to. I’m also exotics oriented, and UF has an aquatics certificate and great exotic animal oppurtunities! For example we can volunteer in the zoo med ward weekly! Finally, it seemed like the best place to live out of all the towns and cities I went to interview in. It’s warm all year round (plus for me), cost of living is relatively cheap, and every store you could ever need is within a 10 minute radius. Gainesville is also a relatively safe place from what I’ve experienced, and there’s lots of bars, breweries, resturants ETC for when you have free time!

Honestly I am incredibly happy with my choice to come here! My classmates are supportive, the professors are welcoming and very knowledgeable and overall it truly feels like a community.

Hi! I was wondering: How accessible is the zoo med service for students to volunteer consistently? And to complete the exotics clinical rotations? Did you find the easy to set up?

Any student can volunteer once a week at zoo med for a period of 2 hours! It’s very accessible and easy to everyone. As the semester goes on though they may let you volunteer more often, at first it’s weekly to allow anyone who wants to volunteer a chance. Though I will say in my busy schedule, I can’t really find more than 2 hours a week to spare. The zoo med clinical rotation from my understanding is not competitive. Anyone who ranks it gets it at least once and you can rotate there up to 3 times for a total of 6 weeks in zoo med.

After interviewing this weekend as OOS, UF has become my absolutely #1 program and now I’m so anxious to hear back. The interviewers were extremely nice, but I don’t think I answered and approached the questions as well as I could have. We all definitely laughed and talked a lot at the end about things unrelated to vet med, but I really hope I didn’t blow my chance with some of my responses!

Don't worry I feel the same way. They asked me a lot of questions at once and didn't read my application so I felt like I didn't get to say everything I wanted to say...but fingers crossed we hear back soon!

I almost want to hold on to the hope a little bit longer thinking that I’m going to get in.

I don’t think I’m ready to face reality yet

OOS alternate. So weird because Florida was my best interview yet, and I’ve been accepted everywhere else I’ve interviewed

i’ve heard the waitlist has moved quite a lot in past years so don’t lose hope guys!! you got this!

OOS alternate... Hopefully if people know they won’t be attending they turn down their seats sooner than later. Definitely still my top choice.

First year at UFCVM here. Just wanted to congratulate all the members of the class of 2024!! And if you’re an alternate, keep your hopes up — people usually get pulled off of the list!

If you got denied, try to remember that this decision does not define you! You are still an amazing individual and you will get to live your dream.

Does anyone know how much the OOS waitlist has moved in the past?

I wish we knew where we ranked on the waitlist to know if there’s a chance for us or not. Does anyone know how many people they put on the waitlist? I’man IS alternate.

OOS alternate. I really like this school and hope to get pulled off the waitlist. Does anyone know when alternates start getting calls? I would hate to only have 24hrs to make a decision on this school if I haven't heard back from all my others yet.

CONGRATS TO THOSE ACCEPTED!! I can’t wait to meet you all! If you’re on the waitlist don’t lose hope! I was on the OOS waitlist and pulled a month after decisions went out. Feel free to pm me if you have questions about the waitlist!
