I honestly felt like everyone I talked to was from illinois!!
Haha, I sat next to a girl from PA at the info session and also ran into a group of girls who had travelled there there the night before. Definitely met a few IL residents but I definitely talked to people from plenty of different states.

Were you there in the afternoon? Some of my friends and I noticed that the IS interviews seemed to be scheduled in the afternoon. Everyone I talked to in the morning was OOS.

Yeah it probably had something to do with getting there late. I had a morning interview and the students were super friendly and interactive. One of them gave a girl private tours to a few people that had to leave before the tours started. Even the students that weren't helping out with the interviews offered me help with finding everything. I do agree that having a spillover room wasn't the most impressive thing ever. They should have just had more info sessions and kept it to one room. This is now my first choice out of the schools I've interviewed at so I can't wait to hear back from them!
It's really hard to do more info sessions when we have class too because both the BSB classrooms on the second floor are taken up from 9am-11am and then again from 1pm-2pm for lectures. We actually cut out an hour of class time in the morning so that an info session can happen. Dr. Foreman also teaches so that limits his availability as well. It's not ideal, but it's what we have to work with unfortunately.

Anyone else unable to load their status page? Mine is getting "503 Service Temporarily Unavailable." Maybe they're updating the portals already! 😉 haha, I doubt it, but that would nice

I completely forgot the interview was on a Monday. All my other ones were on weekends so it felt like a weekend to me.

Yeah I am already checking everything for updates...

I wonder why they don't do the interviews on a weekend? It sounds like it would solve a lot of the issues..

I was wondering the same thing. It may be availability of the professors, students, and veterinarians for interviews is very small so they do it on a weekday.

So maybe today they will phone interview those who couldn't make it Monday?
Here's to hoping...and anxiously waiting:corny:

Yeah they said it would be today. Am I the only that's already anxiously checking their portal even though they said it wouldn't be updated until the middle of next week? >.<
Guilty as charged. I feel silly for it. I wonder how many people they'll have to do phone interviews for and whether those interviews are going to bleed into Friday depending on how many people are doing the phone interviews.

I'm probably going back to my genealogy research. It has become a huge hobby of mine because I wasn't able to trace beyond my grandparents before I started. The tediousness and focus required for sifting through piles of documents makes for a really great distraction and helped me make it through to the invite stage without stressing too much.

I probably have checked my stuff 500 times...I am so ready to hear back this whole process is too long for me!

Genealogy ahh i used to love doing that...until i dug up some family history no one knew...I ended up calling it quits after that.

Anyways I'm spending my time playing mass quantities of video games...

Video games are a legitimate way to pass time. My boyfriend got a rougelike platformer/Indiana Jones ripoff called Spelunky a few months back... I'm a little too addicted to it. I miss Starcraft, but I don't have the time to dedicate to it to be any good. 🙁

World of Warcraft is the only thing that takes my mind off all of this. I've been playing that as much as I can but it gets boring after a bit - probably because all my friends no longer play it. :C

I have been going old school and hitting up zelda games, currently I'm on ocarina of time 😉

I hope that's a good thing lol 😀
It was. He was impressed with your dedication to fly out all the way from Hawaii and then pretty quickly head to New York I think? for your next interview. You at least made an impression on him which is good.

All work and no play makes me one cranky panda. I propose a [drunk] gaming night a week to relieve stress.
I'd do this once a month, so we can go all out without worrying weekly about studying.

I have weekly gaming nights with friends now (board games generally, but this can extend to video games.) I'm not sure I'd have as much time for it in vet school, but I can affirm it's a wonderful way to relieve stress among peers especially after rough weeks in school. Provided everyone would like to if/when we get in, I'd totally make it at least a once monthly thing.

I haven't played in so long....my first was a human warrior (yeah yeah....) then I went to undead hunter. And named all of my animals really random things.

I feel like one night per week is almost mandatory to prevent the crazy from creeping in. I'm talking 2-3 hours, not an entire day of gaming. 🙂

2-3 hours always turns into an entire day.

Or am I the only person with no self control?
I personally can keep it to 2-3 hours, but that might also be because my game nights happen around 6-7:00 at night and I can get tired pretty fast... Can't do 2 AM shindigs like I used to, and I'm not even that old. 😛

WoW was my life during high school (did I really just say that?) I was on crutches for two summers, so I couldn't really do anything. I would suddenly realize it was 3AM and I had been playing for a long.....long time. The game got old, but I'd like to get back into it. However, it's expensive and I work a lot, so I couldn't give it the time it deserves (lol)

That's *kinda* where I am. I got into WoW for a summer, but that was back when I was a sophomore in college and had fewer responsibilities. I don't feel like I would have the time to dedicate to it, so it wouldn't be worth the subscription. I usually stick to games that either require less time investment or ones that can be put down for a while and picked up again without much problem. I hear that the new expansion for WoW is really cool and fixed a lot of old problems, but I think for now I'll stick to the stuff I already have. I am curious, though.

Edit: I'm not sure if any of you are tabletop gaming fans, but if you are and enjoy it I'd highly recommend GenCon. It's a huge convention in Indianapolis (about 2hrs away from Champaign). I managed to make it work on my budget last year by camping. The site was very cheap so my main expenses were just food and tickets. I'm probably doing similar this year and have been setting aside parts of my paycheck for it.

Oh yeah I used to be like that with WoW. Still happens often if I'm really bored but adulthood has killed my desire to pull frequent all night gaming sessions. I value sleep much more now. 😛

Okay so it is settled then! We get accepted and then spend our free time gaming 😉

I can already see how much more gaming will be done instead of studying if we go to Illinois... A second year Illinois student was telling me about how she has 2 laptops, one for school and one for gaming haha

Also, I wonder if they sent out letters yesterday... They said Friday would be the earliest
