I edited my earlier post, but just wanted to say here as well, that they updated the site and I did get the auto-interview. I was just being overly anal. Oh well. I used Netscape as well, if that had anything to do with the status change, I don't know.

I haven't gotten Firefox yet, but I've heard good things. Have they resolved that security issue publicized earlier this summer?

Best of luck to everyone else, and for the non-auto-invites: remember that 2/3 of invites are not automatically chosen. Hang in there everyone!

Congrats. We knew you'd get an auto invite, being that you are a. from Mich, and b. have super super super high stats that are hard to beat.

Good luck.

For those who submitted the secondary, does anything on the status page change? My status is still "not available", there is no check mark next to the "Web Secondary Submitted", no emails either...I filled mine out in IE b/c I didn't see any problem with it...wat do you all think?

I haven't submitted yet, but I would suggest either calling the admit office, or using Netscape to see if your status changes.

ya'll, what does it say under STATUS if you have an auto-interview??

Application Status - "We are pleased to offer you an interview"

pony06doc,
I submitted yesterday and paid the app fee and mine still says "status unavailable" as well...however, I have check marks next to
[x] email a picture
[x] read technical standards

not sure what's up with that...let me know if you figure anything out.

i called them and they said the status is updated manually and it would take a couple of days. i guess we will have to wait a few more days...🙂

From their FAQ:

I sent in my fee and submitted my secondary application a month ago but I haven't heard anything from you. What's happening?

It can take up to 2 weeks for us to get your fee delivered to our office and recorded. Then it may take 4 to 6 weeks for us to make an initial review of the file, depending on the time of year. We suggest checking this site periodically to see if the review status has changed. Sometimes we put a file on hold for a long period while we review other files before making a final decision among the candidates. Thus, the total review process can take as long as 4 to 5 months.

So I guess we'll be waiting a bit ...

[update: just got e-mail confirmation. also, they are requesting LOR's and a photo, which they say is only for applicants who they are thinking of interviewing, but then again i didn't get an auto-invite so i don't know what the heck is going on.[/QUOTE]

Where did you hear that? That's positive news though!

in faq's, it says that they only want LORs if they are "considering" you for an interview. this could all be baloney. i went back and looked at the "e-mail confirmation" and actually determined that it says nothing about my secondary application, so it's really not a confirmation at all. it was just an e-mail asking for LORs and a photo. their system is a little screwy.

Can anyone confirm the address for sending LORs.

Is it:
University of Michigan Medical School
M4101 MSI Box 0624
1301 Catherine Road
Ann Arbor, MI 48109

Thanks! 😀

Does anyone know how long of a drive it is from Ann Arbor to Detroit? Which airport would you use to get to UMich?

I live in the area. Detroit metro is where you fly into. It takes almost exactly 40 minutes to get to downtown Ann Arbor.

is anybody...

A) signed up to interview on the 16th

Okay, okay. I've learned from your lesson in self-reliance.

Here is the correct address:
Admission Office
University of Michigan Medical School
4303 Medical Science I
1301 Catherine Street
Ann Arbor, MI 48109-0624

I just needed to stop searching the website and look at the top of the email they sent to me!

Absolutely new to the Auto-Invite

How does it work. I am just submtiting my primary now(rather late) as I was waiting for some summer grades(I had a couple W's from before that I never re-took). My GPA isnt great(3.2-3.4), but my MCAT is 13, 13, 13. What are the required stats for the auto?

thanks,

Well you totally meet the criteria for the MCAT cutoff (36 out 34 in) but GPA is "around" 3.7/3.8 for out of state and they are lenient on GPA but most likely won't give you the auto with a 3.4, sorry to say.

Even the auto interview thing isnt a strict line. I have a 35/3.8 in-state, no auto-interview.

someone said "at least 11 in each section" for auto instate. Do you have that?

3.77 overall 3.8 sci/37, auto. dunno how they decide.

nope, and that is why i ahte the verbal section of the mcat. becuase of that (i got a 9, did well the othe rsections), my application status has not changed since 7/5, ive been waiting several weeks, and im in distress, two rejections already

I'm thinking it is probably a 10 or above, not 11 or above. Maybe they just want double digits in each section.

I say 10 or above in a given section, with 34+ MCAT, because some of the people had 10 in Verbal or another section, but had 34+ overall, so that probably means that it has to all be double digit subscores.

im concerned about the proximity of this place to detroit. does anyone know its distance and influence? or are they two entirely separate entities?

It is way to close. I'd definitely recommend withdrawing your application ASAP.

I, on the other hand, can probably handle the trials and tribulations of living in Ann Arbor! 😀

they're about 60 miles apart.
however, it is recommended that you do pack heat 😉 j/k

take that back, more like 30-40

ehhh...crap, detroit sucks. im going to give ann arbor thorough scrutiny during my stay. 40 miles = 8 Mile x 5! and i think you have to fly into detroit airport, so theres no avoiding it.

first off, the airport is in romulus, 20 miles away. Second, detroit isn't that bad. i would love tyo be in your position right now, an interview in my homestate and my hometown, but unfortunately bad luck ahs led me to mroe rejections than anybody in this entire forum.

good luck anyways with the interview. its a great school in a great town

i dont think ann arbor is going to welcome back her native son ;_;

on a day to day basis, ann arbor might as well be a thousand miles from detroit. the two are definitely distinct. you may occasionally go to detroit for a show or a baseball game, but otherwise it will never even enter your mind. ann arbor has its own public transit, university (obviously), cultural events, etc., and it's a GREAT town to live in (apart from the expense). you can trust me on that.

for a basketball game you would actually be going to auburn hills if you are talkin about the pistons.

well, i said baseball. but i guess there are plenty of pro sports to choose from in detroit.

i was not an auto-invite, but i just checked my status and it was updated today and they have asked me to interview!

moral of the story: i think michigan does not contact you by e-mail for an interview. you have to check the status, which they have so far been updating about once a week.

i'll see some of y'all on the 16th! 😀

Glad to see your alma mater ended up showing you some love. 😀

 at Shredder's comment about SDN fest at interview day. That will be kinda funny that all of you will finally meet each other, well some of you anyhow. But still, pretty cool. 😛

I hope that I get to have an SDN fest at one of my interviews. Heck, I just hope I'm getting the interviews!

I submitted UofM on Sunday, now I'm just waiting. (They aren't waiting on my letters of rec. to decide on the interview invite are they?)

When does Michigan send out letter of rec requests? Do they send out a request at the time they send you the secondary notification, or do they ask you to check a box in the secondary application itself? Do they send out a letter request only AFTER they've received your complete secondary?

Thanks. UMich confuses me.

Arrgh! My app went through its first revision today, and I'm officially on HOLD. Freaking aplication limbo, and potentially for months. Well, congrats good luck to all those who have upcoming interviews.

Is "on hold" distinct from "under review"? Mine says it's under review and could potentially be placed on hold ...

i heard the detroit airport is way outside detroit, so it's not terribly far from ann arbor. is that true?

The dtw metro airport is way out of detroit and it is NICE! To all those ppl scared of the D, it's not bad at all...chill. There are so many affluent suburbs around Detroit. You don't need to believe your movies or wherever else you got your info because if you've been to the city, you know it's not that bad. (and no I did not grow up there)
