Yipee! An interview invite for me! 😀 😀 😀

My status was just updated today, 9/6 and I took the first available interview date: Friday, October 14. (The other options were 10/21, 10/28 and 11/11.) My file was complete on 8/16. I had already sent in my LORs, and emailed my photo as soon as it was requested.

FYI: the status page has also been updated: (There are still a lot of interview invites to go out!)

anyone else going up there this friday?

Congratulations to you Sail Crazy.

Congratulations, SailCrazy.

I had all my stuff turned in at that time, and there is no change in status for me. The lady at admission told me that they do not inform us if our file is placed on hold. seeing as people verified after me have gotten an interview, i am losing hope very very quickly. mich was my top choice for a school, and in-state, and im relaly starting to think that this is it. 🙁

Yes, so I feel like crap 🙁 . I was put on "hold" today. I feel this means that I'm petty much going to be put in limbo for the rest of the application process. ERRRRR!

Congrats Sail Crazy!

rtmcad2319: In light of what wowzer wrote ("...[U of M. does not] inform us if our file is placed on hold..."), how do you know that you have been put on 'hold'? Was there a specific message to that effect on your status page, or is that an inference on your part?

And SailCrazy: Congrats also.

Abhin

i (and the admin. lady) was incorrect. i received an "on hold" message today 🙁

does anybody know what % of applicants "on hold" will get a chance to interview "at a later time?"

hold. bleccchhh

did anyone receive the weird lil email about chart and organizing interviews/applications?

yep just got that email, but no attached chart or link to any chart. weird indeed. and on hold since 8/9.

I too have been on hold since 8/10 and really don't expect much.
i'm a U of M undergrad and out of state so there's not much reason for them to take me. Need new alums lol

so Applications Received: 3071.... does that mean primary or secondary applications? because there may be a lot more applicants if its just the secondary

Did anyone else get the "here's a chart to keep you organized" email today? did they send it to everyone?

Edit: In other words, are you complete, incomplete, have LOR request, interview when you got it?

I'm trying to figure out if the send this to everyone or if it's just those who are complete, on hold, have sent in LOR, or are awaiting interview.

Thanks!

Who cares about the stupid chart thing if they're putting me on hold! Humpth! 😡

So for the people who think that they are on "hold" did they send you an email, or what does your status page say. All my status page says is that my application is under review.

I just wanted to say good luck to anyone that is interviewing w/ me tomorrow at the first UMMS interview day! Be sure to get there early!

🙂

They do not send you an email. Your status changes from under review to HOLD.

This is what it says:

Your file has had a preliminary review; current status is "hold". No interview decision has been made. Please be patient.Your file has had a preliminary screening by the Admissions Office for the MD program. Determination of the next step of review will take place at a later time and you will be notified if your status changes.

Has anyone gotten an update after 8/26 for completion? My checkmarks are all complete and it's still not updated 2 weeks later? 😕

Anyone interviewing this friday? I'm a little nervous....my first one...

Hi there,

Relax, Michigan interviews are totally chill and they put on a good show. As a UMich M1, I'll offer this piece of advice: Be nice to Everyone that day and they'll be nice to you.

Good luck Friday! I sometimes give tours, but will be going to the Emergency Medicine Interest group meeting. :luck:

I just got an email from UMich asking for a current photo and LORs...

Does everyone who receives a secondary also receive a LOR request? Just curious because I received a photo/LOR request two weeks ago and haven't heard anything since....

Or better yet... anyone out there miraculously have stats regarding how many of those who receive the photo/LOR request receive interviews? 🙂

They asked for my LORs and a photo and about a week later I got an interview, so it's definitely a good sign that they're strongly considering you for an interview. I would imagine that they have more apps to work with at this point, so if it takes a little longer, don't stress out.

I don't think anyone has the numbers you're looking for, though...

i was asked on 8/24, now the status is 9/13 under review. hopefully i get something :luck:

Alright, those of you who have interviewed, what did you think? I interviewed 9/16/05, and thought the staff, students, facilities, and interviewers were great. Very low stress, excellent for my first interview.

Anyways, any advice the rest of you that have already interviewed have for those unlucky saps still waiting? Oh, and if you have any questions for me, feel free to ask. I'm a MI resident, if that matters.

same experience here. lots of yellow and blue everywhere, school spirit seems strong. my faculty interviewers were so so, student was good though. my feedback has most of my pointers on it

i interviewed with you guys - shredder and jimmers.

i liked it. i think i was more impressed than i expected to be. i even liked that it was such a long day, because they really showed us a lot, tried to sell the school. i was at ohio state a couple days before, and we really just got a talk and a ten-minute tour there.

anyway, i'm biased, but i love ann arbor and would love to be back there. as an ohio resident though, it might not be worth the extra expense (that is, if i get in to both).

go blue.

I'm going 10/14. Do they tend to get decisions out quickly? Would it be possible that they would tell me a decision before the end of October?

The admissions staff at UMICH is the best. I heard back from them a week after I had interviewed!!

Well, they start giving out acceptance/rejection notices that night (12 midnight Oct 15). And given that my friend last year interviewed on Friday and heard back from them on Sunday, yes, you should know by the end of October.

Best of luck to you! Check our newest feedback for any more info about the interview.

For those of you who did the chat session last time, how was it? How many applicants participated? If I do it, do I need to have several decent questions lined up? Are there any transcripts available?

Thanks!

I hope so. I know of someone who interviewed very near the end of October last year. He said that they told everyone in his group of interviewees to expect to hear from them in about a month. They called him the next Tuesday with an offer! 👍

I think that means I'm going to be sweating out each and every day post-interview until I hear something! :scared:

Thanks Shredder! 👍

Does anyone know if there is a transcript available for the pre-interview chat that was held a few weeks ago? Can anyone briefly characterize what was discussed?

Thanks. 🙂

This is a long bloody process.

Now UMich wants a picture and LORs. I think I already sent them LORs but will send it again and I sent a pic via email.

Is this one more step towards an interview?

Yes.

Does anybody know if automatic interview applications have a (slightly) better chance at getting admitted than ones who are granted an interview via normal processes?

hmm, they certainly do by virtue of the fact that their stats are higher. they have a markedly better chance stemming from that. in fact they even mentioned that very few in the first interview batches would be rejected right off the bat, almost everyone accepted or waitlisted. so i would say the answer is a resounding yes

Ok....................so my husband goes to U of M, he's a PHD student there and has to be there for the next couple of years. I applied to U of M, as an illinois resident (cuz I just got married in July, and Illinois is where I have lived for most of my life) and I got put on hold there. U of M is my top choice (naturally) and it would really suck for me to have to be separated from my husband for the next four years. Should I write this in a letter form to U of M? Do you think they would care, or just toss it out?

You're already on hold; what could it hurt? (I might wait for a little while and see if you progress further and then send a letter if you get waitlisted, but that's just my personal opinion.)

they talked about any and everything related to admissions, student life, curriculum, etc...4 students were there and 2 deans. they were really nice and relaxed, and super helpful. even if you don't have questions, you should just go and observe...last time, there were about 60 or us, and the questions and answers were pretty much non-stop. you learn a lot!

So randomly I checked my status today and they invited me for an interview 9 days ago! Do they not email you or send a letter or anything? Good thing I checked. I will be heading out 11/18. I just wish I would have checked sooner and got an earlier date.
