Yep, you just have to look there periodically - like 4 to 5 times a day. I think they like to appeal to the obsessive-compulsive in all of us! 😛

Wow, I am glad I didn't know that otherwise I would have.
 
I understand that those who recieved the auto-invite are more likely to be accepted due to their high numbers, but does anybody have any statistics about this from past years? It is my understanding that around 266 of the 800 invites are auto-invites, and that they accept around 400 people per year. Of the 266, how many do you figure are likely to be in the group of 400?

They do accept about half of those who get an invite (so, from the 266, about 133 get accepted). But I think more of those 266 get accepted...maybe I'm just paranoid.

Basically, unless you're URM, forget about an interview with less than 35 and 3.8 before 2006. I know that I'm not holding my breath on anything.

I think you're an exception. With a MCAT of 41, I would think they want to talk to you to see what you are like.

i know i shouldn't be holding my breath, but seriously UM would be my #1 choice.
 
Wowser and Radioh3ad, you'll probably get processed and interviewed before I do.

They said that your chances of getting accepted if invited for an interview does not diminish later on in the process. So even if you interviewed in Feb, your chance of getting in is still 50%.

Hang in there.
 
hmm...

i sent out my letters around 8/20 for michigan and was formally "complete" on 9/13. My file is still under review. Anyone in the same boat?

you're MSTP, you're in a different pool of applicants. but i'm sure you'll be hearing from them soon.

As a fellow MSTP applicant I can tell you that my file has been complete since 8/11. It has been under review since then. It seems like the MST programs are generally much slower in starting their process than the MD programs at the same school.

UMMS is well known for admitting students based on their entire package. All hope is not lost if you happen to be a candidate without a steller MCAT or nearly perfect GPA. Top schools like UMMS want people with good stats and unique qualities that will enhance the field of medicine.

Bottom line: Don't give up yet. Great schools want more than just great numbers.
 
12 hours from now, at least some of us will know if we got into UofMich!

On Weds my school had a Graduate and Professional School Fair, and Director of Admissions Robert Ruiz was there. He's really a great guy. Anyways, he told me that they had just met in committee and made initial decisions... He talked about some guy with a 41 MCAT that they rejected, etc. etc. He said a "select few" will know tonight, the rest will know by Monday night.

I don't think I'm going to sleep until I find out. I really don't want to stay up till Monday, but if that's what it takes...

wait, i'm a guy with a 41 mcat. according to mdapplicants.com, 3 applicants with 41's have interviewed at michigan this year. the other two: women.

crap.

i don't wanna go there anyway!
 
I had a dream about Michigan the other night. Dreams about acceptances/waitlisting/defer decision are terrible. There is little hope of me getting in---but this wait is killing me!
 
Wow, I'm sorry ahd... I feel really bad. Now, he wasn't confiding information to me, he was actually talking to a premed in front of me asking about UofMich's cutoffs for various things, and he was talking about how they analyze the "complete package" and such, and no score/GPA ensures admission. He may have just made up the story to prove a point, he may have been referring to one of those women you mentioned and just called them "guy", he may have forgotten the actual score (maybe a 40, gulp), or he may have been referring to a 41'er with no mdapplicants profile.

I really hope you get in, and I'm sorry if I ruined your day! I was just trying to build excitement over the impending admission information. Man, I feel like a jacka$$...

Let's remember MDapps doesn't represent the whole of the applicant pool. There may be some 41's who haven't posted here.

yeah, I know of 3 guys with 40's who interviewed there and none of them are on mdapps....keep faith! 👍

no worries jimmers. i know mdapplicants.com doesn't represent the whole picture, but i do still suspect it's me. i have a really strong mcat but not much else going for me on my app.

did the info on the right side of the status page disappear for anyone else? there used to be a section showing if they had received the additional info they asked for if you were granted an interview (picture and technical standards i think). now, it's gone on my status page and i was just wondering if this happend to anyone else too. i think my "on hold" status is getting closer and closer to becoming a rejection.
 
For those who interviewed at UMich 10/7 or earlier:
Does everyone who is getting accepted get an email at 12:01 AM EST? Or is it just selected admittees? (ie, if we don't get emailed, does that mean we are either deferred or waitlisted?).
 
My photo and technical standards stuff disappeared yesterday as well. I've yet to receive any type of notification that I'm on hold though...hoping for the best.

They have been very uninformative about this. They have only said a "select group" of students will find out tonight. They haven't said whether this is the entire accepted group, or what. So, while anyone who doesn't receive any information tonight is bound to be disheartened, there can be no determination as to whether you are accepted/on hold/waitlisted/rejected until Monday night at 5 PM. While the next hour and a half is going to be stressful, the wait until Monday is going to be even worse.

Anyways, lets hold together everyone. Good luck to all on getting in!

who said it's the accepted students? it just says "some candidates" in the e-mail. maybe it'll be just us rejects!
 
For those of you who didn't get the email but want to help us interpret...

Greetings from Ann Arbor. As we approach the October 15 decision date we would like to reiterate our review/notification process. We hope to have all candidates who have interviewed on or before October 7 reviewed and these decisions available on your status page by 5:00 p.m. Monday, October 17. The possible outcomes are as follows:

-Admission Offer. This is our invitation to join our 2006 entering class.

-Highly Desirable Candidate, Deferred December Decision. For highly desirable candidates this is a deferral of a committee decision and no action will be taken on your file until December. This is a "no action" decision and further review of your file will take place again in December. This decision is not an offer of admission, waitlist, or rejection.

-Waitlist. This will offer you a position on our waitlist.

-Denial of Admission. This action will close your file and you will no longer be considered for admission to Michigan.


Please note that some candidates will receive notification beginning "precisely" on October 15. We appreciate your continued interest in Michigan.

Hey everyone,

I interviewed on the first day 9/9 at Umich and Robert said specifically that we would receive notification on the status page at 12:01 am. I think the e-mail means that those with earlier interview days will here at 12:01 tonight and the other that were before 10/7 by Monday.

Dajimmers and others who interviewed on 9/16, what did they say to you guys about notification?

Would someone be kind enough to post the link to the status page? I don't have it with me just at the moment...
 
In the intro to the group who interviewed this morning Robert said that all of the acceptance emails were "locked and loaded" and ready to go at 12:01. I had the impression that he meant all of them, but I definitely could have misinterpreted that statement.

I think they just get off teasing the applicants. After he told us that the committee had met on Wednesday, wouldn't meet again until Nov. 2, and that we shouldn't expect to hear about any acceptances until Nov. 3-5, he then paused and said that if some people were really outstanding today that we shouldn't be surprised if some of us from today ended up receiving emails tonight!

Who knows what's going on, but I will check in to see if I happen to be fortunate enough to get in and even luckier to find out now! :luck:

Man , this is intense. Thanks for the info, SailCrazy! Hopefully you'll get in tonight, and not have to wait till Nov. They only meet once a month, or what?!

At mine (9/16), they insinuated that we should find out tonight. So, I'm hoping....bottle of champagne is at the ready... (so is the tequila, if it should be necessary)
