WildChild, I did not get the impression from Kathy that 'Laboratory Animal' experience applied strictly to rodents. In fact, I proposed a scenario to Kathy involving small ruminant research [pre-clinical medical device testing], and this would have been listed under both food animal and laboratory animal experience. For my research experience involving exotic animals, it is also 'dual categorized-' once for laboratory animal, and once for 'other' (exotic animals). It would be completely inappropriate in my case not to list these experiences as 'laboratory animal.' This research went on for years and was IACUC approved in all cases. The animals were maintained in AAALAC (Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, International;
http://www.aaalac.org/) accredited facilities and the research was funded by the NIH, NSF, DARPA, etc. In this day and age, laboratory animals no longer equals ONLY mice and rats. Zebrafish are becoming one of the most commonly used laboratory animals in the industry. Other 'non-traditional' models are not far behind. Call Kathy if you have any concerns.
