I noticed on each day of the IP's there are time slots dedicated to testing. So can I assume those testing classes are only attended when there is an actual test and when there is no exam, you don't attend until class time? Or are there other things to get done on non test days?

You only have those testing spots as place-holders, so you will not have anything during that time unless you have an actual exam. So if you have an exam at 7:00 am, you take the test, get done at let's say 7:35, then you have until whenever class starts free (either 8 or 9 depending on the day). Otherwise class starts at whenever they are scheduled for.

Got it! Sounds like a good system to get all the testing out of the way in the morning!

I definitely prefer it to my undergrad's 8pm exams, though I do admit 7am exams can be a tad early for some folks 😛.

Actually the first "semester" they ease you firsties in, I only ever remember at earliest 7:20 exams those first 2 IPs so that's 20 more minutes of sleep at least 😛

Hmmm so 20 minutes to get my life together!

Lots of reading, working, and snuggle time with my daughter and husband before the crazy starts! We move in mid-July so it's starting to feel real!

I will be working until I move in. Haven't started packing... Probably won't until July....... Mostly going to buy stuff there. Got some furniture for cheap from current students!

Moving in the second week of August. Maybe even earlier if I get selected for the lab tech position in the pathology lab! I have little experience with lab work but hoping they still give me a chance! Does anyone know when they will be contacting the applicants?

Good luck! That sounds great, how did you go about applying to/finding out about the position? I haven't received any communication since the acceptance email!

Sounds lovely! I'm not moving in until the first week of August so you'll have a little more time to settle in. Are you moving from a different state?

You didn't? They emailed us about that position! The email was from Cheryl Rojas. Check maybe your junk email?

Yes! We're moving from north Arkansas, so not too far.

One of my friends is a lab tech and they really like it. Their schedules are pretty flexible (you don't have to work the night before an exam), though there is some on-call time so you might be rarely called in at 2am to run a sample. They get some pretty good experience too, when it came to blood smears in histo and clin path they were ahead of the game for sure.

Thank you, Ashgirl!

We received our VET invites today by the way!

Does anyone have recommendations for 1 bedroom/1 bath apartments located in a safe neighborhood? Also one that is pet friendly? Thanks in advance!

Have ya'll looked at the camp Mihaska site? It looks like we're going to have a super fun time! Anyone else excited?

I am! I registered already! Can't wait to meet everyone!!!

Also, incase anyone is looking for jobs (inorder to gain instate residency) I have already started looking/applying! Haha! Here is the website: https://hiremizzoutigers.com

I have been only applying to flexible jobs where the hours are not much...will slowly get to $2000!

Crazy question. In Missouri do you have to have 2 license plates for your car? One for the front and one for the back?

If you have Missouri plates, yes. If your car is registered to another state, you just have to follow their laws.

As for the lab tech position, how long does it usually take them to get back to the applicants? Due date for the application was yesterday. (I'm asking bc another employer would like to move forward with a position I applied to and I have that on hold until I find out about the tech job!)

Anyone have the name/ISBN for the required anatomy books?

Does anyone know when we should expect our class schedule information?

Like the daily schedule. What time classes and labs are. Is it too soon for that info, or is that something that I should already have?
If you follow the link, it has the daily schedules for all the IPs. Most of time it will be 8/9-5 for the first two blocks.

Oooh! I wasn't sure if those were concrete schedules or just examples of what to maybe expect. I just felt like I was missing things and have been getting anxious because I'm not quite sure what I'm missing in regards to getting ready for classes. Thank you for your help!!!

It's pretty concrete! If you want I could post a few screen shots of what a week of school looks like

Thank you so much for your help! One last question to pick your brain if you don't mind! Do we have to register for these classes or is it already taken care of due to our acceptance?

That would be great to see a screen shot of a typical week if it's not too much trouble!

No registration necessary, all of your classes will be taken care of for you!

Here's a few random weeks I picked during IP1 and IP2:

Hey! I was wondering if anyone knew how or where to find out what books and supplies we needed, or is that something we find out when the syllabus is passed out?
Thanks!

Can anyone already attending speak to the course load? I understand you fit three years into two (2+2) and wanted to get an idea of how much "more" rigorous it is. Any feedback would be appreciated!

When you break down the amount of time we are in class, we really only lag behind others by 8 weeks. So really, it's not 3 years into 2, and if we had "normal" scheduling, we would go into clinics during Feb/March of third year, which is on par which quite a few other schools. I personally think it's better because even though we have more exams, I'm constantly on top of the material, and if I don't like a class it's okay because it's done in 8 weeks! That and we only have to balance 4-5 classes at a time, which again, to me, is less stressful than managing 10 at another vet school.

The only thing that is truly "more rigorous," or at least to me, is the amount of school we have in the spring. Going to school for 24 weeks is rough and is a recipe for burnout, especially during your 2nd year (1st year isn't bad at all since they have an "easy" summer block). I'm at the end of my summer block and I'm about to pull my hair out over how stressful it is... but at the end of the day I would do it all over again due to extra time in clinics.

That's really helpful. Thank you! I'm considering whether I want to apply and that has been a concern. When I called office to ask questions they emphasized how rigorous it was and I just didn't want to apply if it was going to be over-the-top difficult compared to other schools 🙂.

Comparing with my peers at other schools, I personally don't think it's more difficult. It's just a different way to get to the same end.

Wherever you go, vet school is going to be rigorous. And crazy, and exhausting. But it's doable! 🙂

Thank you so much! Yes, I know it will be rigorous, and that was why I was concerned. I didn't want to add rigorous on top of rigorous 🙂. Thank you so much!

Generally speaking, you will get most of your books in an online/pdf format from your big. The main ones that I would buy would be the small animal anatomy book, and the large animal anatomy book. If you are a book person, you can buy more, but it's really not necessary for the vast majority of your classes.

Speaking of which, the official big-little list is out, so be on the lookout for messages from your bigs!

So how exactly do we register for classes? Are we supposed to wait until V.E.T.?
