University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Application Thread (2011-2011 Cycle)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't heard anything at all, from hold/waitlist/acceptance/rejection =( Getting nervous because so many others seem to have heard back. Can you tell me what date you got the e-mail about the hold position please? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I got an email about the "hold" status on December 19.

Thanks for letting me know, now I'm even more surprised I haven't heard anything. Guess they are on vacation right now for Christmas but I will e-mail them next week then. Thanks.

I still haven't heard ANYTHING back from UNC... which I thought was a bit strange. I have been accepted at Colorado and have interviews set up at UCSD and UCSF.

Are they still sending out interviews?

I can't say for sure but I would bet they have more interview sessions. From what I know, they have only had 2 or 3.

I believe they've had 3 interview days so far. One in Oct, one in Nov, and one in Dec. In each of the days there were two sessions. The school is on winter break right now so I wouldn't expect any activity at the moment. Don't give up hope yet. There should be more interview dates coming up.

Is anyone here attending or trying to attend the UNC Asheville satellite? I won't be applying until next year, but right now that really is my top choice.

I have a interview date set in January and I received that date before Christmas break. I've been accepted to my #1 choice so I'll most likely forfeit my interview. Good luck to those who are still waiting to hear!

I was e-mailed today that I was placed in the hold category. Interviewed on Dec. 9th, second session. Just wanted to let people know if they haven't heard back also. If anyone knows any stats about acceptance from this position or just anecdotal experiences of the hold category I would be interested in hearing them.

Does anyone know who I should contact if I'd like to decline my acceptance after already paying the deposit to hold my spot? I know I won't get the money back, but I've since been accepted to my first choice school and need to let UNC know I won't actually be attending.

But hopefully that'll clear up a spot for one of you! Good luck to everyone still waiting for news.

I do not know for sure but I would probably send them an e-mail at the [email protected] e-mail address. I believe they get a large number of e-mails at this address and that it may take some time for them to respond, but it is the most pertinent address that I am aware of.

I submitted my app right before the deadline along with the supplemental. i'm sure i didn't miss any materials, and yet I haven't heard back from them AT ALL, not even whether I was rejected or not. At this point, is it safe to assume that I am rejected? I'd much rather know the result now than hoping an unrealistic outcome... :/

There are still basically 2 full months of interviews left if this year is anything like previous years and they only contact you right before they give you an interview so I really don't think you should give up hope at all.

Has anyone who has already interviewed, and subsequently been placed in the hold category, recieved an updated notification since the hold such as either an acceptance or rejection? I interviewed October 21 and was put on hold November 7 and still have not recieved a.decision. Just curious if anyone else is in a similar situation.

i'm from CA, and i also interviewed on october 21st and was put on hold... haven't heard a thing since the hold letter... =(

I was placed into hold category not long ago, but I wouldn't expect to hear back for most people till closer to the March 15th point. There might be a few exceptions but that would be my guess.

From what I can tell, they do not outright reject anyone after the interview. No hard evidence to this though.

Just received my interview invite today, for Feb 3rd. But it was to the Asheville campus (my second choice). I was really hoping for the Chapel Hill campus, but I guess not. Does anybody know anything about the Asheville campus?

The same thing happened to me! Interview date on the 3rd of Feb and to Asheville campus (my second choice). Hopefully, someone here tells us a bit about Asheville. lol

Just received an invite to interview on Friday at the ECSU satellite campus (1/25), which was my 2nd choice! In the email, it said "we are no longer scheduling interviews for the Chapel Hill campus"... does anyone know whether this means they are no longer filling any admission spots for the main campus?

I am under the impression that they have probably offered admission to the number of slots for Chapel Hill. This means that the future interviews will be for the other satellite locations. This does not mean that no one else could not get into the CH campus at all, but they need to wait to find out who accepts their offers and who denies before they offer any more. All my assumption, no proof.

I live near Asheville. It is a cool city for the WNC mountain area. It isn't a very big city and there is a kind of counter-culture, save-the-earth, go green atmosphere. As far as the school, UNC uses the UNC-A campus and broadcasts the classes they have in Chapel Hill to the rooms at UNC-A. You watch it on a TV screen from what I've been told. That is all I really know about it.

Anyone have an interview on 1/19 (aka TOMORROW?!) I'm from out of state so I'm heading there now... excited but nervous! good luck to all~~🙂

I just got an email from UNC saying "The Admissions Committee is continuing to review your application and has not yet made an admissions decision."

I went to the interview on the 19th, and I was wondering if this email has any implications of my chances, or is it just a standard email they send to a lot of people?

It probably means you are on a waiting list, or something of that sort.

I interviewed on the 19th as well, and received my acceptance this morning.

Got the same message about them continuing to review the application...seems weird that they didn't specifically say anything about a waiting list or the "hold" status that people seemed to be getting earlier

They may have just not had time in committee meeting to get through everyone's files from that week, and they just are notifying you that they will let you know either way soon. Don't know if that happens, but it seems possible to me from my previous experience with committee meetings.

(to be clear, I've never been on an admittance committee, just other types, and they never work as quickly as one would like)

Are you saying that being in a "holding" category means that you are out of the running? Is that a nice way of saying you have been rejected?

I certainly wasn't saying that, if you were talking to me.

I am in the same boat! Well I submitted it in October. I don't have a good feeling about mine =/

Thread has been dead for a more then a week, no one has heard back any new news of any sort?

I got my interview on Feb. 16th for main campus and this is the last interview section. Well, I guess UNC already have enough ppl to fill up the seats, and I already paid the deposit for Campbell. Anyway, I will attend the interview just to have a look. Anyone has interview on the same day?

Did you get a confirmation that your interview will be held at Chapel Hill? I guess that means some people turned down their acceptance offers...

I also got the email yesterday for a Feb. 16th interview at the main campus. I completed the form about which session but never received confirmation?? I have another interview on Feb. 17th that is ten hours away from Chapel Hill in Nashville, TN. I would love to attend both interviews, but I am not sure it is a good idea to reschedule an interview I've had for almost two months. Any advice on whether it would be a bad idea or not??

I only apply for main campus and in the letter, it said it is for main campus

If you can book both interviews in the afternoon then you should be fine. It's generally better especially if you're from out of state and wanna save some dough. The only thing that'll be a con to this is that you won't get to see as much of the city/campus as you would if you stay over for a day or two.

Accepted to the Asheville campus! Anyone else? 🙂

^to those who just recently received emails -- may I ask when your interview was?

And did you guys get emails earlier saying "...The Admissions Committee is continuing to review your application to our PharmD program and has not yet made an admissions decision"?

My interview was 1/19 and I still haven't heard back.. 🙁

mine was 1/19, and I haven't heard back either other than the email you mentioned.

This is nerve-wracking waiting for an email for months

I got my email yesterday too!

Wonderful, congrats! I'm mwang, just forgot my login details so created a new account....haha. Do you plan on attending? So far I've been accepted to 2, and have an interview to a 3rd, it's already so hard to make a decision between the two I've been accepted to!

And to those asking, I was interviewed on Feb 3, but I was interviewed on the Asheville campus, don't know if that makes a difference in when you hear back.

I just got my acceptance email today!!

Earlier in the day, I got an email saying that my PharmCAS Academic Update was finally completed. Maybe that's why it took a while..

Has anyone who was put on hold earlier heard back yet? Also did anyone receive an email from certiphi asking for a criminal background check? I'm wondering if UNC request a background check for waitlisted students too

I was put on hold a while back and have heard nothing since then. I was not contacted about a background check.

I'm actually really confused because it said one or more schools to which I was conditionally accepted to was requesting the background check but I never received an acceptance email from UNC. It's the only school I interviewed at so I'm assuming UNC sent the request. Anyways I'm trying not to get my hopes up since it might not mean anything

I just received my acceptance e-mail yesterday. I interviewed on Nov. 4 and was given the "hold" status notification on November 14. I hadn't heard a word until yesterday, so don't give up hope! I am very excited to join the class at UNC!
