University of Toronto Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know some people were talking about this yesterday, but is it true that ONLY if you're out of HS for 4 years you can get OSAP? Throughout my undergrad, I didn't even bother with OSAP because both my parents were ok with paying for me, but now this tuition is aloooot higher. I don't even know where/how to begin applying....

Pharmacy0 is right, all you can apply for is OSAP but in most cases they don't give you enough money to cover your tuition. So you'd need to take out a line of credit from a bank such as national bank or scotiabank to help cover it and your housing,if you are living away from home.

Frankly, I have more faith in my interview than I do in my PCAT/GPA. Granted it was in March, so quite a while ago, but walking out of the Pharmacy building I thought I did a good job. I'm also much better at communicating with people/debating orally than I am at writing exams etc... so I'd say my strength was the interview and the fact that it was oral... But you know what, maybe I totally misinterpreted everything. Who knows... Thanks for your input btw, greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, I really believe that you are going to get in this year because many people applied to multiple schools and there's also applicants from OOP who would probably choose a closer school if they got in.
However looking at your data, I really don't think you need to improve on anything. People have gotten in with similar pcat scores (your essay sections are excellent btw) and some made it with lower cgpas. You said you did well on your interview so that couldn't be your weak point either. I just think once they plugged everything into the final admission equation, you just ranked underneath the 240th spot. So don't lose hope because you will be an 1t5 soon 😀

lol, responding a bit late but better than never. I kinda just read congrats, the first couple of lines, scanned it quickly and closed as well. Then, I re-logged in again and it was still there!!!!! 😛

Thanks for the clarification pharmacy0 and pharmacist1. I'll have to do some homework on this stuff these days, and if I get confused I will PM you =)

Sorry for all the questions but do any pharmacy students know if National Bank will give loans without a co-signer? Also, what documents do we need to show them when we apply?

You don't need going to the National Bank with a co-op program.

Well, I think you might still. I still used my National Bank line of Credit even though I have a full-time summer job (by the way, I work with Waterloo co-op students). I still had to pay my tuition in September rather than the summer when I get my paychecks.

Has anyone sent their acceptance letter yet? I just e-mailed mine, I wonder how long it will take until they send me back a "we go your acceptance letter" e-mail ! =D

What would you do if you did not have a summer job at London Hospital ?

Would you be more visiting to The National Bank?

Hot Pot, I would really like to help the 1T5s. I hope that I have been helpful. But I don't appreciate this harassment. I don't even know who you are.

You don't need the co-op program to get a good summer job. You can still find one, there are plenty available for U of T students.

I got my loan without a cosigner, but I had to show two recent paychecks. You also may need a good credit history, but they told me that they understand we are students and will take that into account. It doesn't hurt to have had a credit card with no missed payments.

You're going to need your letter of admission and the paychecks, but when you phone to book an appointment they'll tell you.

Exactly and thanks a lot for doing that for us 😉

And to be honest, I don't see why some other people post some weird nonsense on these forums... lets just keep our posts relevant to pharmacy rather than talking about what specific people do or don't do 🙄

I got my ScotiaBank LOC without a co-signer too.. Something you might want to look into.

^^ Guys, let's avoid an argument on here, so, that we can maintain the integrity of the thread for future applicants 🙂

Lol, I remember when I clicked on the letter, and saw "Congratulations!", I got soo excited that I couldn't even finish reading the first sentence... it was only after hours that I was calm enough to finish reading the whole letter 😛 hehe

Also, I don't think Pharmaniac is literally unable to make sense of what was said, rather he is confused about the purpose of such statements 🙄
ah I see, oops 😛

Does anyone know how many people usually get off the wait list or how many got off last year? The faculty says it's typically 30 people but does anyone know from experience or from friends how many people actually get off the wait list?

This hot pot guy is annoying...if you like UW so much why not reapply there and save those bank trips?

Both UW and UofT have their advantages, so it depends on what's more important to you.

It's as simple as that.

Hello everyone,

First of all Hot Pot, please don't post personal information about classmates on online forums, it's unprofessional and petty. If you have a problem with someone, take it up with them in person where you can't hide behind a computer screen.

On a better note, I'm student going into second year at UofT for pharmacy and I am also on the phrosh planning committee. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on here or pm me =).

Lastly, UofT and Waterloo are both good schools, each with their own pros and cons. Which school you go to should be a personal decision, based on what YOU want. I actually did my one year of undergrad at UW.

Pretty much this. Let's all be respectful to each other. After all, we are going to be classmates in Sept 🙂

Morning guys,

Just in case any one is wondering, I accepted my U of T offer via scan/email on Saturday and if you open your acceptance letter again, there should be confirmation by now!

🙂

hmm, I am still debating between fax or email because with an email, I have a copy saved and so do they but with a fax, its a faster transfer.

Yeah, the thing with fax, is I NEVER know whether it goes through or not.. but yes. I chose email so that I have a copy

True, that and it can get jammed or might go somewhere else 😛 I ended up deciding on email and just sent it. I'm sure I'll get the response max by tommorrow 🙂

hey guys this is a random question but is there anyone who got accepted from U of T this year with low GPA like 3.0???
I believe there was someone on here who did get accepted, but, I can't remember their name. You'll have to read the previous pages to find out, maybe 3 pages back or so 🙂

I know of a few people who managed to get in with a low 3.0, so it is very possible. You should definetly aim to do well on the PCAT (def' on the Chem section) + do well on the interviews.

Also, I JUST accepted my offer this morning (sent via email/scanned) at ~9:00am and the letter in PharmSIS updated to show that they accepted at around 11am the SAME day. 🙂

Hi everybody, congrats to you all for making it in this year! Unfortunately, I got waitlisted on the lower half of the waiting list and I've been quite discouraged this past weekend 🙁

The main reason I think I've been waitlisted is because of my PCAT score, where I got 67 composite and 88 chemistry. However, for some odd reason, I can't read and have no verbal ability whatsoever o.o I got 23 in verbal ability and 20 in RC.

I am planning to take the PCAT again soon, and I wanted to ask you guys how I can improve in these two sections.

Congrats to those who made it in this year, and for those like me, stand back up and go for it again! Thanks for the help!

I sent mine out 3 hours back and now I checked PharmSiS and they updated my status as well 🙂

hmm, tbh, the max I've ever gotten in RC is 48 and verbal is 60 so I dunno what advice i can give 😛 The only thing I can say is in RC, read the passage and try to grasp the main idea and then answer the questions based on what was written. Don't worry if the info in the passage is wrong or right, it's not what you need to do. As for verbal, I concentrated on the sentence part first then the word part, since, I find that I can increase my pace when going with the easier part IMO.
As for your composite and chemistry marks, they aren't bad at all. They are fine as is, you don't need an 80+ for a composite to get in. I think once you get the interview, it's the main deciding factor, so, my question is, do you think you did good on the interview? Now, I'm not saying don't redo the pCAT, but, I think if you can concentrate on improving whatever went wrong in the interview, then you can get in easy 🙂

Just emailed them my "acceptance" of their acceptance 😀

Hope when I come back from work, I'll see the confirmation on PharmSIS as well :xf:

I'm pretty sure people did or at least people borderline 3.0. This was kinda a strange year, because of the small applicant pool I'm sure people got in with GPAs and PCATs much lower than what was considered competitive in previous years.

rofl, I guess that's one way of putting it 😛

I'm sure you'll see some change provided you gave them sometime, although, you might be cutting it close for today 🙂

haha, rofl as in --> 🤣 ???

I checked the PharmSIS and they did actually update my letter 😉 I'm surprised at how efficient they are at doing this, only if they had the same efficiency at posting their acceptance decisions back on Friday 🙄🙄🙄

UofT is full of small surprises like that 😉

Just wait til you get here.

oooh, now, I'm curious. Any hints? 😀

lol, I have to try though, don't I? 😉 I'm sure we'll have a blast, given this new curriculum looks crazy packed(6/6) so I'm sure we'll be very busy 😀

yup, you've been officially upgraded to the devil for today 😛

For the waiting list people....I sending my declination to UofT! I'm going to make someone really happy a week from now. It made more sense for me and my financial situation to do a co-op instead of a line of credit and all the interest involved. (Yes I like money...so what!)

For everyone else....they're easily two of the top schools in Canada...so you'll be fine wherever you go! I actually applied to Waterloo as a backup, but this forum changed my mind! 👍

I hope you weren't doing that because of a certain poster here.

You still need a line of credit if you go to Waterloo. You pay tuition long before you get a co-op job. Even with a co-op job, you're going to be paying at least $20k a year.

Well, sad to find we won't be classmates but you decided on where you want to go and that's what counts in the end 🙂 GL at UofW 👍

hehe, anyone wanna guess who this poster is? 😛

hi there! I want to get an advice from you guys about the PCAT.

DOes U of T pharmacy only look at best PCAT score? or the lastest PCAT score??cause I noticed that even if you take PCAT multiple times all the scores are sent to the school.

UofT takes the best PCAT score (within 2 years of writing the exam).

You can PM me and I can tell you what I used for the PCAT 🙂

Can we not turn this into a UW vs UofT debate? We should be discussing benefits and drawbacks.

UW places you into industry co-op positions, which I like. I'm out of province, and my network in Ontario/Toronto is really small, so any help I can get it is of huge worth.

If I was in a different situation, I might have chosen UofT. So it depends on each persons individual situation!
